I think you are right. I am a professional drummer and watching a mimed drum track immediately reveals itself. The drummer counts in the song with stick claps, is wearing headphones to hear the "click track" of the keyboard sequencer and vocal.... AND the song does not fade out..ends with a choked cymbal crash...Yes, THIS IS LIVE To AIR performance, no doubt about it...and a very very good one. Professional.

And if not for Taylor Swift and Beyoncé putting out albums later in the year, new music streams and sales were on pace for record lows. And the trend is still pointing downward. New music consists of a) getting REAL high, b) get on a paint by numbers trap-pop track made in 5 minutes on a laptop, c) get even more high, d) use the melodic range of a 4 year old humming, and sing song some vapid cutesy rap for tik tok. Don’t get me wrong, there are still people putting out good music. It’s just that they have all been around for at least 15 or 20 years already. New music today follows the strict formula I laid out above, or even worse, are influenced by, and trying to replicate, the above formula in their own way … to make cutesy, kiddie tik tok videos. Now make way for AI; it will be a vast improvement on what we have now, and will be infinitely more sophisticated, sadly.

Well, this is a fantastic song, there's no doubt about that. There's a little confusion in these comments, so here goes: this isn't exactly lip-synced, but it's close: it was common in those MTV-is times to have live singing and instruments over the track, blended in. It's still done to this day. That is what's going on here. For example, you can hear the percussion/congas clearly here even though they were way down in the mix in the studio version. You can hear brass but there is only a sax onstage here, and the sound is not being synthed by the keyboard. If you think, "🤓well heck, these guys really captured the exact feel of the studio track!!!", that's why. It's still very fun stuff
