Just learning how to use my multimeter so I can make sure I everything is cool with my fuel pump wire as I put it back together. I also looked this up because I want to make a test light and had a bulb I was going to use but wanted to make sure works before I make it. Thanks for the tutorial!
Very useful. I thought my bulb was bad, but the filament looked OK. So before heading out to the store, I said there's gotta be a way to check the bulb. Found your video and confirmed the bulb was actually good, it was just that some connections weren't tight. Thanks for the video.⭐
Thank you, wouldn't have a clue how to use my volt meter and you explained what settings I need perfectly/. Now gotta fin what to do it when i turn my headlight on and I don't have power!
Awesome video, very detailed. Makes complete sense about the complexity of electronics 👍 most times I hook a 12v power supply directly to the bulb, but the multimeter is definitely the correct way to do it
It looks like the guy that installed the xenon lights in my car was working in the dark because the installation is so messed up. I will test everything tomorrow. Nice informative video by the way, straight to the point.
@@TheDurbinCompound I fixed it.I tested the whole wire connection in front but i didn't have any current. It was just a bad fuse.Sometimes it is better to just start from the easy stuff. Thank you anyway and have a nice day.
Awesome video bud🔧 Anytime I get into electric work it turns out to be a shocking experience🔧🔧 This is a video I take very seriously for just that reason! Thanks🔧🔧🔧
I didn't want to get too in depth with it. Trial run of some vehicle electrical. There will probably be more advanced videos in the future about relays, circuits, etc.
thank you for honest opinion that car electronics tend to be complex and most of the time not for amature diy-ers. I am one of them and I always wanna make sure to always go to professionals for things that sound complex and way off my amateur diy-er skills
My left turn signal light bulb went out. Went to auto zone to buy a replacement. Worked perfectly. Now, I took a look at the old one and it doesn’t look bad, everything is in place, I even tested it for continuity and that works too. So how come? Any ideas? I’m starting to think my dash light might have that issue since it’s not working at the moment but tested the light bulbs and it gave me a reading. Any other method to test those? Thanks
Good thing you are the only person smart enough to do electrical work. Basic electrical work is not that complicated . So must took you years to master getting the light to glow!!
Very helpful video, thank you. I subscribed. 👍I have a question, i have a 2012 honda crv exl and both of my high beams stopped working at the same time. It's only one bulb for the lows and highs, if i put a meter on my headlight plug-in and turn the key and switch it to my brights is that how I need to determine if my switch or connector is bad? Will the meter give two different reading for the lows and highs? All the fueses are good, but I can't find a relay for my headlights. Thank you
The high and low beams are lit up using separate wires. So low beams will be lit with one wire supplying 12V. Then when you turn on high beams, a second wire will supply 12V to a different part of the bulb. Usually that means there is 3 wires to a single bulb (2 voltage wires, 1 ground) OR two separate bulbs
what wuld do xenon bulbs with out ballast? me car runs for years great but sudenly it started self acelerating I suspect arcing or relays interact with xenon or dual filament buls posibly alternator back fead problem. So me question Is can I use diodes on xenon bulbs or potenciometer or dimmer to determine where is the problem? In other words me engine trothel cabel gets magnetised the metalic springs got contrapted leaveing me at full trothel and that is dangerouse. Me car us old Opel from the 80s tipical GM lay out with hei ignition and I only have positive linear voltage regulator. So need advice how to see where the problems comes from static isnt mentiomed in repair shops. Or with what is static meshured? And yes me alternator has no diode in the dash board and oddly enough the fiel wire from alternator also is split wire cinected to me 4pin relay pin 86 for windscren defroster. So Im preaty much confused what to do here I disnanteled all me wire harnest It looks like desaster so I want to build independent circuets to by pass thise mentioned problem what fuse you recomend to use I want head light seperate and rear lights to be seperare what diode radings shuld I use for me relays and lights?
Hi! will having a lower voltage affect how bright the light would be? I've been having troubles with my car's low beam, we've already tried swapping out the old halogens with Philips Ultinon G2 LEDs. The lights only turned white, but it didn't seem like they got brighter.
Waittt How to difference low and high beam on H4 bulbs ?! When lightning filament shielded with thin meat that's low beam, and when burning lower filament it's high right ??
i have two LED bulbs..one of them is flickering and the ommeter reads 067.3, the good one reads 072.5.. i switch sides🔄 on headlamp and still flickers.. is it a defective buld by the ommeter reading... it lights up but after a while it blinks and flickers on either side of the cad headlamp...
You look like Prince William. You wouldn't happen to know pinouts for sylvania 9000vx bulb would you? Lowbeam on drivers side not working. Replaced bulb and it's not working. I'm about to take passenger side bulb out (which I know works) but I have to remove battery to get to it. Sylvania's site offers no information.

Great video, I have always been lucky enough for stuff to go out and filaments stay in tact. Even my fuses tend to look perfect when they're done.

Yeah you can do it both ways. Your way involves electricity! Hahaha no need. Either way gets results so it's just up to the end user!
TheDurbinCompound for sure, multimeter is way safer too haha
Everything is safe with common sense! But that's not too common these days hahaha.
TheDurbinCompound its all about moderation haha
Thanks, this helped me fix the headlight on my 1973 Harley.

Probably not the bulb at issue but the relay that switches between high beam and dipped/low beam.
Thought I was going to see a test procedure for 3-prong bulb with low and high beam, but thanks.
What's the next step if there is no power to the electrical connector?
This is the info that I needed, so thanks for that. But I almost gave up because there's WAY too much narrative.
Yeah sometimes I can be long winded 😂
@@TheDurbinCompound No worries - was intending to be constructive, not bitchy. Thanks again.

Thanks for the down & dirty 👍🏻
should the headlight connector (Pigtail/PowersuPPly) always read 12v on every vehicle?
I’m going to say yes. The bulbs are all the same across vehicles and they require 12V
Sir, how about h4 headlight ? Thank you sharing

So it has to be 1 ohm from base line? Cause my reading on the bulb says .7 I think that’s bad
PS Thanks for making the video
Anyone know how to test a xenon headlight? I do this step but the headlight just flashed on and off instead of staying on.

Sylvania's site offers no information.
1. Bad bulb = NO continuity.
2. Good bulb = continuity.
Thanks.
You poked the 2 multimeter probes into the bulb socket, but there are 3 different wires in the bulb socket.
If it has 3 wires, you are looking at a dual filament bulb.
@@TheDurbinCompound oic, the middle wire is the common?
Okay demi god
is it just me or do you actually look like a more chunky verion of Prince Willian? 🙃
Hey now, I’m working on it!

Please tell me more so I can help you!
What if I test the connector and I'm getting like 1.3 and it's fluctuating. Does that mean the connector is bad?
1.3 ohms? Where exactly are you testing from?
1.3 volts when testing the connector. I ended up replacing the ground and now it's working fine.
Ahhh gotcha. I’m glad you figured it out!
What. ?????
All that to test a bulb ???
You're kidding right ????
sorry but ur name is william true ?.... prince william
