  • This was a fun one. For the final day of the Kawasaki weekend I took out the ZX-10R Special Edition and the ZZR1400 (or ZX14 depending on your market). Similar specs yet very different in execution, feel, and character, and both spectacular in their own way.

    Well despite all the negativity I enjoyed your review Dan, haters will always hate! I'm cracking on nearly 50 and set my heart on a 10r...till I sat on one! Very cramped and track orientated. The ZZR won me over with its roomy position and blistering performance! Each to their own I guess.

      Much appreciation for this. Like you said haters gonna hate. I have no skin in this game and nothing to win or gain by pushing one of these bikes over another, this was as objective as I could do. The ZZR is a great bike!

    Even though both are quintessential sport bikes, one is designed for speed + handling, whilst the other is designed for touring at high speeds for long distances.
    So it's a direct supersport vs sport touring contest. However in the end both are Ninjas and are amazing sport bikes for the purpose they are designed.
    Nice comparo buddy👍

    As a ZZR owner, I was excited to get the ZX10R for a few hours, whilst mine was in for service.
    I was instantly struck by the riding position, which I liked a lot. But once out of the city and on the twists, it was pin sharp handling and very very chuckable. I was however, left wanting when it came to exiting corners and hitting straighter sections. The Big Zed would have lost out in the approaches and the corners, but would steam past the 10r on the way out. I'm sticking with my ZZR, but have a place in my heart for the ZX10R for sure. Next to try is definitely the H2.... not the SX and certainly not the ZH2. Go large, or go home!!
    Great video, really enjoyed it fella

    First time I have seen this article... have a '14R, and a 2014 (older generation) Zx10r - there is a reason I have both! given the choice between 1, I would have to go with the ZX14r only. It is more versatile, better in the city despite being a bigger bike and is sooo smooth. However, for turns and burns the '10r is a lighter machine no doubt. The next generation SE is even more so. However the feel between the older ZX10r and the generation 5 zx10r is very similar; the next gen just does everything a bit better. I am privelaged to have one of each... your article on each is spot-on.

    6'3 280...ZX14R is a comfortable bike. I was all for getting a GXR1000...until I sat on one.
    Nope!! Felt like if I hit the front brakes too hard I was going to flip over the top.
    Previous bike was a Katana 600 with 1200 miles on it when I bought it for only $2300. I fell in love with the comfort and room, so I had to get something of similar comfort.

Sub 2015-2016 1000cc were kinda meh and hayabusa and zzr were the kings of the speed but newer 1000cc superbike are much faster now days. 2016+ zx10r model is much faster than the older one.

      @@markwarner5910 I clearly said both bikes with full system ECU flashed and dyno tuned. But it doesn't matter stock or not the top-end power of a modern litre is far stronger than zzr1400 and they'll walk on the zzr1400 if the road is long enough. Short 1/4 mile drag races yes zzr1400 will beat all stock wheelbase superbikes but not in 1/2mile or full highway.

    • @tpatrick6902
      @tpatrick6902 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Walk to where? I have a tuned zx14r and know it passes 200 mph easily. I know it has better acceleration down low. So what you're saying is the modern liter bike can catch up as they both top just over 200? I've never kept the bike sustained over 170 mph on the street. By the time the modern litre bikes hit their stride, beyond 1/4 mile, youve woken up every cop in the county. Sustain 186 for half a mile and you might find yourself without a bike and in shiny bracelets.

    • @Fearless154
      @Fearless154 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tpatrick6902 I own 2014 zx14 with stock gearing with ECU flash and dyno jets autotune system and it maxes out on the GPS 190mph. Also, I own 2018 r1 with stock gearing too which max out at 192mph. But top speed is nothing you can play with it with gearing change, Early acceleration zx14 does faster but after 100mph r1 catches up and keep on accelerating much faster and passes zx14. Modern literbikes produce more power and much lighter but their power is at the top of the rpm range the moment modern superbikes gets into a power band they will catch and pass zx14. Zx14 is better for short drag races but highway pulls no so much.

    I have the 2018 zx10r se and it is freaking amazing. Ive had a 19 s1000rr , 13 gsxr 1000 and 07 R1. The 2018 ZX10R SE just is in a class of its own. Its very hard to express how awesome it is with words and you have to ride one to believe all the hype. Everything you said is true. Its a missile. Dont forget it has a titaniun exhaust and it doesnt get hot. Im in florida and it never gets over 190 sitting at the redlight in blazing sun. Its the best bike ive ever rode and the s1000rr would be my second choice.

    The ZX-10R does not beat a ZX-14R in a drag race or for top speed. I don’t know where you got that idea. That may just be your perception with the high rpm biased powerband of the ZX-10R. That said, the 10 makes less power in the US and the 14 is top speed limited to 187. Maybe that’s the difference.

      A good friend of mine did track his 1400 after an exhaust and suspension upgrade. His biggest issue was footpeg ground clearance which eventually led to him wiping out in the corners. With regards to nimbleness the 14 is an elephant compared to the track focussed zx10.

People need to understand glory days of the zzr and Hayabusa are past nowadays 1000cc superbikes produce more HP but the much lighter weight does for they're going to just fly off when in their powerband.

    • @Fearless154
      @Fearless154 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @will smith You're completely wrong ZX10r got taller gears and higher whp on the dyno and much lighter weight. ZX14 got the advantage for a shorter race because if the torque' shorter gears and higher compression rate and longer wheelbase but if it's an open highway race the moment zx10 gets into 10k rpm it'll smoke zx14 like it's nothing. We are not living in the early 2000's where busa and zx14 were the kings of speed nowadays modern literbike produce more power and with better aerodynamics and huge weight advantage. My r1 is faster than my zx14 and zx10 is known to be the fastest literbike at the straight lines.

    • @mindspinn311
      @mindspinn311 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anton Newman That is and isn’t true. I’ve seen ZX-14R walk away from modern R1’s and S1000RR’s. Some 1000cc super bikes seem to be top end power limited in the US and the ZX-10R is one of them. The mapping is different in Europe. Also, most ZX-14 owners do a flash tune that unlocks a significant amount of power. The bike still does a 9.8 sec 1/4 mile stock if you know how to. The midrange power is much stronger and the ZX14 is usually several bike lengths ahead by the time a 1000 hits its top end power band, but never makes up the difference. Not saying the modern 1000cc bikes can’t beat it, they sometimes do and yeah the 150lbs weight difference is most of it, but most of them don’t have the low drag coefficient of the ZX and Hayabusa.

    • @Fearless154
      @Fearless154 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mindspinn311 You can't really judge how fast the bike just from the video because most of the time rider's weight and tuning difference plays the major role.
      I do agree zx14 got all of it's power down to the mid range short drag races it will beat zx10 but full top speed high pull zx10 will beat it with the same mods and about the same rider's weight.
      And yes out of the box zx14 and hayabusa have the most drag racing potential due the the torque wheel base and shorter gearing but they're not the fastest drag bikes by default. Research pro street drag racing league and fastest and most popular bikes which does 1/4 mile in 6s are 1000cc superbikes not nesessery zx14 and hayabusa.
      Also drag racing is not an indicator on which bike is fastest. Dodge demon will out run Bugatti chiron in 1/4 mile but it doesn't mean it's faster car. Like they said in the video zx14 and zx10 make their power differently zx14 is about low and mid range and zx10 is about top end the moment zx10 hits 10 rpm it will walk on zx14.

In 1986 I bought a brand new red ninja 1000R for 4,400 bucks, at Boston bike show, when I went to pick it up, the dealer tells me 5,600 bucks, figured right, but I had the card with that price so he grudgingly have in. I loved that bike, the design and heritage is in these bikes. It was a wrist rocket for it'd time.

    There is something wrong here. Both bikes have so much power that they would end up on their heads in first gear at full power. The zx14 has more weight holding the front end down so can accelerate harder through first and second at the top end. I'm guessing you had traction control on or something. There is no way a stock zx10 pulls as hard as a stock zx14. The zx14 even outaccelerates the supercharged h2sx.

      The 10SE comes stock with grippier rubber, and less intrusive traction control. The closer ratio race box also let you stay more consistently close to peak power, once you get there. The 14 is easier to launch, but the launch is also where it gains all of whatever advantages it has stock over the latest liter bikes in the 1/4. Unless you are plain weird, riding around on the street you are much further out of the power band on a liter bike than on a 14, though. So for anything but racing, the 14, in practice, "pulls harder." Besides, at least for me, the 14 is more comfortable than a Gold Wing. While a 10 is a torture rack even on track for extended sessions.

    • @Fearless154

      I own 2014 zzr and 2018 r1. Out of the line, zzr pull much harder but when the r1 get around 10k rpm it just walks on my zzr. About h2sx it's heavily restricted out of the factory to 178HP at the rear wheel compared to 190HP of zzr's so stock per stock zzr is faster. But All h2's are very restricted especially h2sx at the top end. Kawasaki made it so it will feel more user friendly for touring crowd and not as insane as normal h2. But you watch brock's performance channel when he ECU flashed the h2sx which made it to produce 240HP at the rear wheel with stock exhaust. My zzr with the full system and ECU flash plus dyno tune does 201HP at the rear.

      702 sub. I think if this man ride a pram it wouldn't not make a difference. You just crap and you know you can't do better. Otherwise it would be a constructive comment for you but was destructive. Just like the answer frome you. But you spend more time in front off a mirror telling your self ( you look good baby). If you think it was good read all comments his not only one. So growing pair off balls will help. Or make commercials not reviews. At the moment 700 subscribers. Do what you want. But jumping on people who bother to text you with what's wrong. You will be gone before you know it. Take care and swallow your pride as you public now my son.

      Hans Klos You’re an anonymous YT commenter with zero credentials and atrocious spelling. Do you really expect people to take you seriously? Constructive criticism ceases to be constructive criticism once you start hurling insults, this applies both to you and Mr Busa T-shirt above.
      Regarding the information in the review, Kawasaki claims 210hp (with ram air) for both bikes. The ZZR has more low and midrange, but once in the power band the ZX10se obliterates the 1400. It’s not even close. Why? Because the ZX10se is 60(!) kilos lighter.
      But please, mr anonymous keyboard warrior, keep telling me how you know better and my appearance somehow makes this video any less valid. Loser.
