BOTW imo is one of the most underrated soundtracks, while it would not make a top 15 for me either i feel it deserves a mention, though it lacks proper “songs”, the low piano in the fields and when a full orchestrated piece comes up in a cutscene or village or battle its truly magical
By far my favorite soundtracks have to the the Super Galaxy 1 & 2. From calming, silly, to an epic-ness orchestra these soundtracks feel impactful. Video game music needs more recognition outside the video game industry.
Super Mario Galaxy... That games soundtrack I hold dear to my heart. It's so absolutely beautifully composed, it will never lose it's charm to me. Every time I listen to both soundtracks it always feels like I'm hearing them for the first time.
EarthBound, Splatoon, and Mario Kart Wii are my most favorite soundtracks! The Mother series is an absolute masterpiece and the music is amazing! Also, same as you for Mario Kart Wii, the music is iconic, and I’m nostalgic for it! Splatoon is another one for me as well! Lots of the songs really fit what they were meant for very well, and they’re super hype as well! You can tell effort was put in it.

Great list, definitely agree with your number 1 pick, BEST soundtrack of all time. Some of my recommendations would be the soundtracks for Kirby Planet Robobot/Triple Deluxe, Rayman 3, Pac-Man World 2, & Persona 5.
Super Mario Galaxy's soundtrack is just so beautifully made, it impacted my childhood and helped make Mario Galaxy my "nostalgia" game. Growing up, I played Super Mario Galaxy from a friend's Wii and ended up getting Gusty Garden Galaxy stuck in my head. I didn't remember the name of the song, I just remembered what it sounded like and once I had internet access, I had to scour for it. Definitely helped peak my interest in video games.
Hearing the New Leaf soundtrack always takes me back to the good old times of playing that game. It has to be my favorite because it’s the only ost to give me such an emotional reaction.
My favorite soundtrack is F-Zero GX because it's just amazing. It gets me excited everytime I boot up the game and It just feels like the music was actually made in the F-Zero universe. Every Character has their own style and so the soundtrack accommodates them with fitting and action filled songs
Music in video games is so important to me. No joke, Xenoblade wouldn't be my favorite game if it didn't have such a good soundtrack. In no particular order, some of my favorites are: Xenoblade 1 (duh) & 2 Final Fantasy VI, VII, IX DKC 2 Mother 3 Sonic Mania Smash Ultimate (idc if this is cheating) Great vid!
Dire Dire Docks is a classic,Hyrule Field makes me feel like I'm going on a adventure,MT.Coronet brings the atmosphere in Pokemon Platinum,The Distortion World is relaxing in Pokemon Platinum,ARMS main theme is pretty good to get you pumped,Fossil Fighters main theme definitely makes me want to replay the game again,Tomodachi Life main theme is bittersweet nostalgia, and Goemon Mystical Ninja village theme is beautiful.
great list! I couldnt figure out why you put so many great games lower than I expected, but it all made sense when I found out your number 1 is mario galaxy. Nothing quite compares to galaxy!
I've always loved the Max Payne soundtracks, for all 3 games. But Max Payne 1 in particular just has really mood setting music that makes you feel the dread, the isolation that Max as a character is all about
Great video! In the past year the Persona 5 ost has become one of my favorites. The soundtrack alone got me to try out the game and eventually complete it, which is something no other soundtrack has gotten me to do :)
My favorite game for it's music will be Metroid Prime 1 and 2. No matter how many times I listen to them, I never get tired. The title and menu themes, overworld themes, battle themes and everything just feels immersive, frantic when it needs to be, chill, mysterious, intense and terrifying. Every song drips of atmosphere and I can't give enough praise.
Love love love the hell out of your videos! Very consistent and comfy voiceover, nice detailed and passionate commentary on things you care about - makes them really comforting to listen to and just joyful
Anything late 90s and 2000s nintendo makes me think of my childhood and so does kingdom hearts. Skyrim and red dead redemption make me think of middle school. Didn't play a whole lot of games in high school. And today I really like the music in Pokémon sword and shield and legends arceus
I love Tomodachi Life’s soundtrack the most. Every song in that is very nostalgic and brings back so many memories. Each song, wether it’s sad, happy, fun, or anything, is just all so good. I think I might be biased, but it’s one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. I also wish we got a sequel on the Switch.
Seeing XenoBlade Chronicles Definitive Edition on This List Makes Me Smile 😃 Not only is the SoundTrack a MasterPiece The Story/Characters VoiceActing and Game is Too and it’s also in my Top 5 VideoGames of All Time
Probably gonna make a list of my own on my channel after watching this, and so, off the top of my head, a few classics I adore are: -The Super Mario Galaxy games -Skyward Sword -Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition -Fire Emblem: Three Houses -Super Smash Bros. Ultimate -Kid Icarus: Uprising -Undertale -Evergate ...Okay, all of this hype makes me wanna start typing my own full list in order, haha!
my personal favorite soundtracks are Earthbound, BOTW, skyward sword, ocarina of time, wii sports, splatoon, Mario bros 3, Mario sunshine, galaxy, and odyssey, mincraft, spider man ps4, toy story 2 video game, kirby and the forgotten land, and my favorite, kingdom hearts
Great video as always, dude! I agree with a lot of your picks, especially the ACNL music being better than ACNH. It's really hard to pick my own favourite, but I do love the music from Pokemon DPPt soundtrack because of the tracks that change depending on what time of the day you're playing (also the pokemon centre music from that gen slaps). Pokemon BW/BW2 have great music too, love Skyarrow Bridge and Accumula town with it's variable score. And Join Avenue too of course, *chef's kiss*
You sure have a great taste in music :) Some of my favourite videogame soundracks have to be: - Paper Mario: The Origami King The Paper Mario franchise sure has great music, even the least loved titles like sticker stars. But man, you know this one is gonna be good at the exact moment the game launches, the title screen is breathtaking, with amazing visuals and one of the best mario tracks I've ever heard, and it's a feeling that never changes throughout the game. - Miitopia The music of this game is really good and captures perfectly the goofy atmosphere the game has, while still sounding epic or dark when it needs to. Not something you would expect from a mii game made by devs high on sprinkles. - Spirit of the North This one is very personal. It's a game made by about 2 persons and a third creating thr music. In it, you play a fox who follows a mysterious red trail in the sky and explores ruined landscapes inpired by Iceland and solves little puzzles blocking his way. The game looks good (not as much on nintendo switch, sadly) and the little soundtrack enhances perfectly the feeling of beauty and loneliness with a tone of nostalgia the game has. At least, that's the effect it has on me. I don't necessarily recommand to play it, especially if you don't like straightforward exploration and contemplation games, but the music is really worth the shot if you wabt to feel relaxed. [Edit: here's the 14 songs playlist if you want to give it a try :) th-cam.com/play/OLAK5uy_lob_ERMI0QhJ0M4o2RCb9pcBYa6wSoHoQ.html ] That's my top 3 "kind of underrated games with a mn amazing soundtrack". I have other titles in mind that I love, but I chose some that aren't well known or given credit for it. Other than that, Genshin Impact's music is a complete masterpiece but it's not exactly underrated.
Seeing Skyward Sword on this list was perfect, I clapped and cheered. I love a lot of Zelda soundtracks, but SS really did all the things you said it does. It has a great amount of emotional range and the orchestration is amazing.
Surprised to see no Pokemon, but hey, everyone has different tastes! I'm surprised Wii Sports made it on here at all, but again, that seems like a personal thing for you. For me, my personal thing would be putting Minecraft in the Top 5 at least. I guess that was for me what Wii Sports is to you. Absolute classic nostalgia (and, I also agree that Animal Crossing New Leaf is the best of the franchise and super underrated as a whole!)
acnl 7pm is my favorite piece of music of all time. it’s indescribable how it makes me feel and how much it means to me. i could go on but i’ll just leave it at that.
this is a great video man you have some really good choices! i really love tropical freeze’s music it’s just so good and definitely one of my favorite 2D platformers ever
COMPLETELY AGREE ON CELESTE!!! ‘Reach for the Summit’ is my personal alarm. Generally choosing a song for an alarm kills the song because waking up sucks, and having a song associated with that just ends up hurting the song. But Reach for the Summit’s entire thing is that it’s pushing you to go through hell and reach for the summit. It’s very fitting and a very effective motivator.
I'm really going to have to try Undertale one of these days. I've heard that it's somehow reminiscent of Earthbound, and I've always loved Earthbound. My attempt at a top 15 (the longer it goes, the less certain I feel about the rankings): 1. Final Fantasy 6 - Nobuo Uematsu's magnum opus, chock full of great melodies and moving character themes 2. Vagrant Story - Hitoshi Sakimoto's masterpiece, dark and brooding, but also rhythmic and bombastic 3. Super Castlevania 4 - My favorite Castlevania soundtrack, just a uniquely moody score which can also be catchy 4. Streets of Rage 2 - My favorite from Yuzo Koshiro, master of techno chiptunes, and this one I think was his best for that The rest: Parasite Eve Donkey Kong Country 2 Grandia Star Ocean 2 Tenchu: Stealth Assassins Valkyrie Profile Megaman 2 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen Gate of Thunder Suikoden
Mario Galaxy 2 has a much better soundtrack than the original IMO. A lot more powerful, orchestral tunes which I prefer. And the Star sound effects are fully orchestrated. But obviously you can’t go wrong either way. Love the video!
nah, that's actually one of the main issues. The context of the situation never felt right. All the songs are way too bubbly and cheery, compared to the synths and space sounds from the first game. I think the synths was the proper way to go, and even still, there are a lot of orchestral tunes from the first game too. Also, a good chunk of the 2nd game just re-uses the songs from the first, and they aren't used in the right scenarios sometimes. Take the "Star Festival" from galaxy 2. The gusty garden remix doesn't make sense, and even if the instruments are supposed to portray it jubilantly, it still sounds triumphant.
@@Albert_Pecanio Yeah, that’s fair. I think the soundtrack in the original probably matches the gameplay and theming better. But in terms of what I’d rather listen to outside of the game, Galaxy 2 is the clear winner imo. And the synthesized “you got a star” themes really are so ugly in the original. That alone takes out so much of the joy of collecting stars for me.
@@WiiMii2.0 hmm. i know music is based off of opinions, but the star get theme isn't ugly at all lol. Also, galaxy 2 is definitely not clearly ahead of the 1st game's soundtrack, maybe slightly for some people, but definitely not by that much distance
I was listening to the Earthbound OST when I got a notification for this. I mean this list was predictable but I think it's still cool for explaining why these are such memorable soundtracks.
One of my favorite soundtracks has to be Pokemon Sun and Moon. I know that game isn't that popular in the Pokemon series, but I really love everything about the game and it is my favorite Pokemon game. And it is home to my favorite video game song ever "The Battle at the Summit"
Good list! Fortunate enough to be familiar with all 15 :) My number 1 fav is Risk of Rain 1, to me it’s a perfect OST with no duds. Follow-ups would be Dustforce, Tunic, Deadbolt, Rayman 2, Risk of Rain 2, Sephonie, Ecco: Defender of the Future, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles X
Mario Galaxy has really good music, but it can't dethrone the nostalgic to those who never even played music of Minecraft in my opinion. It literally managed to be so soothing and shocking yet fitting.
I have to say, I really love the early fallout (1 and 2) soundtracks - they're so ominous and desolate, a great reflection of the world the game is in itself.. definitely helps the game's atmosphere.
I always assume I am the weird one to appreciate a lot of video games soundtracks when most others focus on Pop, Rock, Metal, Rap, Bands, Jazz and Classical... etc. Good to know there are other people who focus a lot on video games' soundtracks!
To be fair, video game music can take the form of any of these genres, so I don't see what would be weird about it! Personally, I've chosen to describe my taste in music simply as "instrumental music", which includes most video game soundtracks.
I totally agree but you should also check out the Starbound soundtrack it's just overwhelming and would definetly be in my list (My favorites are "On the beach at night", "I was the Sun (before it was cool)", "Atlas" and "Planetarium") I would just count Wii Sports to the Wii series (as well as the the e-shop and menu themes) Edit: I completly forgot about the Mario & Sonic franchise (the older titles were better tho)
The greatest soundtrack of all times must be Mario Kart Wii credits 1. It is just so emotional when you finished all the courses and this soundtrack comes up and sums up the entire feeling. Nothing is better than that
Nice ranking, I’m glad that you put Mario Galaxy at number 1, it was my first ever 3D Mario game and will always remain the best 3D Mario in the series! I like the Mario Kart Wii sountracks, Splatoon soundtracks, Zelda soundtracks and Minecraft soundtracks!
This is a great list! I love many of those games and the soundtracks! I'd also like to add an honorable mention: Wii Fit Plus. For a get-healthy fit game(that has some fun minigames too) the music has no right to be that good- I also love the Mario and Sonic at the 2012 london olympic games soundtrack, they're both extremely nostalgic to me as I played them a lot in the happiest period of my life.
Some of my top soundtracks from franchises not mentioned: 1. Rayman 1 2. Rithm paradise/heaven 3. Team fortress 2 (It's just the menu music but its so good) 4. Do GTA San Andreas radios count? They aren't OST but they're definitelly part of thr soundtrack 5. Cave Story 6. Terraria 7. Grim Fandango No particular order, but Grim Fandango is definitelly the most underrated
Okay, here's my list: #10: Earthbound Honestly, this soundtrack can be pretty hit or miss for me. It definitely has a unique style of music, but it doesn't alwasy do it for me. But the reason it's on my list is because it still has some amazing songs. Onnet is extremely catchy and upbeat, Snowman is nice and calm, and Pollyanna might just be my favorite lyrical song in any video game. #9: Super Mario Sunshine Honestly not anything too groundbreaking, but so many songs from Sunshine have become very iconic and recognizable, like Delfino Plaza or Bianco Hills. Also, I like it when games reuse their main melody for each song like Sunshine does. My personal favorite song is probably Deep Sea of Mare, it's just so relaxing! #8: Paper Mario: The Origami King This game has insanely catchy music. It's hard not to love it! But I have to admit, some songs like the boss themes can be a little samey. They are still great songs though! It's just a very solid soundtrack. My favorite one has to be the Purple Streamer Battle Theme, I just love the violins used in the song. #7: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds I might be nostalgia biased since this was my first Zelda game, but I don't care. I just love this game and it's soundtrack so much. It's severely underrated. Most of the songs may just be remakes from A Link to the Past's soundtrack, as the game itself is a psuedo remake of the SNES title, but they're still really good remasters of the songs and the original songs they have are also pretty great. My favorite song is probably Eastern Palace, as it just reminds me of getting lost in the first dungeons of the game when I was a kid. #6: Kirby Triple Deluxe This was the game that got me into Kirby, so it's very special to me. It's hard to narrow down which Kirby soundtrack is my favorite, but I have to choose this one. It just has so many catchy songs, as is the Kirby standard. But the reason this soundtrack takes the cake is because of the song Moonstruck Blossom. And Masked Dedede is also a banger, but it technically was from Super Star Ultra so it doesn't really count. #5: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze It's hard to say what DKC game has the best soundtrack between this and DKC 2, but I'll have to go with Tropical Freeze. Not only are the songs in this game beautiful and atmospheric, but they also symbolize the return of DKC's original composer, David Wise. Seriously, this guy is great at making video game music. My favorite song out of the (banana) bunch is probably Seashore War. It's a very soothing yet also meloncholic song. #4: Undertale This soundtrack is just full of bangers. I can't think of a single song I don't like. Even the silly joke songs are weirdly catchy. I must admit, however, that I have kind of grown tired of this soundtrack after hearing it so much. Especially Megalovania. It's still a great soundtrack, though. It's hard to pick my favorite song from this game, but I'll have to go with It's Raining Somewhere Else. It's just a very chill song. #3: Deltarune It's like Undertale, but I haven't grown tired of it yet. Enough said. #2: Animal Crossing: New Leaf This is definitely my nostalgia showing, but NL's music is just so calming and reflective that I can't help but get emotional whenever I listen to it, and I don't think nostalgia is the only factor to that. It's just a really nice and relaxing soundtrack. All the hourly music fits so well with the time of day. My favorite song is definitely 7pm. #1: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Galaxy 1 is great, but I think Galaxy 2 has slightly better music so I'm putting it on the ist instead. Each song is just so great, I don't really know what to say. Puzzle Plank Galaxy is so cheerful, Cloudy Court is triumphant and beautiful, and even smaller songs like Green Star are really good. But my favorite has to be Bowser's Galaxy Reactor. It's just such a great theme. Anyway, that's my list. Thanks for reading!
dude, whilst galaxy 2 has great music, the vast majority of its soundtrack is copied from the first game. Green star theme is just good egg, the galaxy reactor is exactly from the first game. Listen to the first game's soundtrack before saying this, there are far better songs than gusty garden in it.
@@Albert_Pecanio I know Galaxy has great music, but I just like Galaxy 2's slightly more. It just has more songs that I like. Most of the songs in it are original and not taken from the first game. Obviously, there are still some remakes and rehashes of older songs, along with many songs having the same vibe as the first game, but I still slightly prefer those over Galaxy. And just because Green Star is a remix doesn't mean I can't like it more. And Bowser's Galaxy Reactor isn't the same as the one from Galaxy. But in all, it's not my intention to undermine the masterpiece that is the original game's soundtrack. In fact, the only reason I didn't include the first game in this list is because I thought it would be unfair to put both games in since they're so similar. But anyway, it's just my dumb personal opinion and you shouldn't take it too seriously.
@@chuckleberry2142 - Most of the songs are original. Yeah, maybe 2/3 of them, but that still is quite a big chunk - What I meant with originality was more or less about direct copies. I've seen people prefer galaxy 2's soundtrack because it has gusty garden, good egg, the galaxy reactor, buoy base and enter the galaxy's direct copies. that's why i brought it up. Even otherwise, remixes still deserve a tiny bit of critique for originality - i agree, having the top 2 as mario galaxy would be kind of weird for those who haven't heard of it. - i didn't intend for my response to sound too serious, that might've been a mistake on my end. i just wanted to point some stuff out, and i respect your opinion a lot. i like how you actually stated why you liked it more and gave reasons behind them.
I really love Brawl’s soundtrack. All smash games have great soundtrack but Brawl is my personal favourite mostly for nostalgia. For me Brawl would be in the top 10.
Just some of my favorite Halo: CE-Reach is perfection, 4 is ok, 5 is mediocre, Infinite is great Metroid Prime: I was able to love this game before I knew it existed. In Sup Space the main theme would play on a Samus mission(that had some difficult platforming) so I heard it a lot. Just finally played Prime last year and its an incredible game SNES: Super Mario world, Link to the Past, and DK Country are incredible soundtracks. So many found memories of all these games. Kingdom rush was very memorable as a kid gaming on an I pad. Such a great medieval theme throughout the game. Minecraft, Mario Galaxy, and Stardew valley for just being the greatest And last is Battlefield 1. There is so much emotion in the games OST that it's hard to describe. The music gets me pumped in game and out of game. And the more calming themes are extremely relaxing and sad
I absolutely hated the Splatoon soundtrack save two songs, I even had to leave the room whenever my brother played it, so I'm surprised at the 2nd place lol
this is a good list i need to pick up outer wilds I love games like oxnfree, so it's right up my alley my top 5 1 new leaf just unbeatable 2 oxnfree play it you will love it 3. botw somehow made it up this far in the list as It's what the game needed 4 wii sports resort basically the same reason 5 Mario odyssey just due to how hype it gets me play oxnfree if you like outer wilds then you'll love oxnfree
While I don't disagree with any of the choices you did make, I'm kinda sad that Prof Layton didn't even manage an honorable mention. Except for some chosen series' representatives, there are some that I would pick differently, but that's detail questions.
Heres my top 5 5. City Folk/wild world I love the music of it some much 4. Smash ultimate having many different of my favorites in one game is awesome 3. Mario Kart Wii this game is super nostalgic to me and I love almost all the songs from it 2. Persona 5 even as someone who hasn't played it yet I've listened to the soundtrack and it's this amazing jazzy style songs 1. Sonic unleashed this game is my favorite because all the different styles of music weathers is big band for the American inspired stage or jazzy and upbeat for the Africa inspired stage.
10. Batman Arkham Knight or Henry Stickmin (idk I just love these both) 9. Super Mario Bros 3 8. Super Mario 64 7. Batman Arkham Origins 6. Super Mario World 5. Super Mario Galaxy (and I guess Mario Galaxy 2 but I never played that and don't know any of the music, just assuming it is the same style) 4. Luigi's Mansion 3. Batman Arkham City 2. Batman Arkham Asylum 1. Minecraft (Not just nostalgia like Arkham and SMB 3, but it is just plain amazing; really calming, C418's music I mean) Let's just say most of the top 20 is Mario 😂
My top ten: 1. Donkey Kong Country 2 2. Timesplitters 2 3. Metroid Prime 4. Ocarina of Time 5. Killer Instinct 2 6. Doom 64 7. Mega man X 8. F-Zero X 9. Turrican 2 10. Conkers Bad Fur Day
I am going to get DESTROYED saying this because the internet hates opinions most of the time The amount of times I've seen the Mario Galaxy games (ESPECIALLY the first one, because of a certain theme I do not need to mention cause I bet you alreay know what it is) at the very top of a "best video game music" list is honestly bothersome for me. It's not the fact it's very good, I enjoy the OSTs myself, but its the fact they HEAVILY, and I mean HEAVILY, overshadow other Mario OST, or hell, even game OSTs in general, that bothers me most. Are they some of the best OSTs? Hell yea. But are they THE best? No, at least in my eyes. I'm more of a fan of the more underrated game/Mario OSTs (cause the Mario Galaxy games overshadow A LOT of them with the exception of obviously Wonder and SMO) like 3D Land, Slam Basketball, and Super Sluggers. if there was one OST that I'd say would be number 1 in my eyes, it's between those few, along with many others Thought I'd get that off my chest Also... If anyone's reading this, huge thank you, cause no one ever seems to see or care for my comments/replies most of the time, so a reply or even a like would be a lot. Again, if you're reading this, thank you
My List 1. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time 2. Terraria: Calamity Mod 3. Octopath Traveler 4. Xenoblade Chronicles 5. Ori and the Blind Forest 6. Hollow Knight 7. Persona 4 8. Fire Emblem Echoes 9. Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess 10. Bravely Default Based on these, does anyone have any recommendations?
BOTW imo is one of the most underrated soundtracks, while it would not make a top 15 for me either i feel it deserves a mention, though it lacks proper “songs”, the low piano in the fields and when a full orchestrated piece comes up in a cutscene or village or battle its truly magical
The songs are in the villages
For sure! The music in the game is amazing and I love the village themes so much
By far my favorite soundtracks have to the the Super Galaxy 1 & 2. From calming, silly, to an epic-ness orchestra these soundtracks feel impactful.
Video game music needs more recognition outside the video game industry.
Agree, at school, sometimes they make fun of me bc of the VG music I hear, in fact, I am the only one who hears this type of music in my grade
Super Mario Galaxy... That games soundtrack I hold dear to my heart. It's so absolutely beautifully composed, it will never lose it's charm to me. Every time I listen to both soundtracks it always feels like I'm hearing them for the first time.
boo its me
100% agree with your Top 1 pick. Not only is it my study/sleep music and inspiration, but it also takes me back to when things were simpler.
Thanks for not spoiling it :)

I love Tomodachi Life’s soundtrack the most. Every song in that is very nostalgic and brings back so many memories. Each song, wether it’s sad, happy, fun, or anything, is just all so good. I think I might be biased, but it’s one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. I also wish we got a sequel on the Switch.
yes! especially:

and th-cam.com/video/R75sBwhvtNg/w-d-xo.html 😭
These are incredible I appreciate you for making these
My favourite OST would have to be Kirby's Epic Yarn, every song in that game is amazing. ACNL would be a close second though.
Oh heck, I getcha
Seeing XenoBlade Chronicles Definitive Edition on This List Makes Me Smile 😃 Not only is the SoundTrack a MasterPiece The Story/Characters VoiceActing and Game is Too and it’s also in my Top 5 VideoGames of All Time
Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Minecraft, Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon are my favorite game soundtracks.
Probably gonna make a list of my own on my channel after watching this, and so, off the top of my head, a few classics I adore are:
-The Super Mario Galaxy games
-Skyward Sword
-Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
-Fire Emblem: Three Houses
-Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
-Kid Icarus: Uprising
-Undertale
-Evergate
...Okay, all of this hype makes me wanna start typing my own full list in order, haha!
my personal favorite soundtracks are Earthbound, BOTW, skyward sword, ocarina of time, wii sports, splatoon, Mario bros 3, Mario sunshine, galaxy, and odyssey, mincraft, spider man ps4, toy story 2 video game, kirby and the forgotten land, and my favorite, kingdom hearts
You sure have a great taste in music :)
Some of my favourite videogame soundracks have to be:
- Paper Mario: The Origami King
The Paper Mario franchise sure has great music, even the least loved titles like sticker stars. But man, you know this one is gonna be good at the exact moment the game launches, the title screen is breathtaking, with amazing visuals and one of the best mario tracks I've ever heard, and it's a feeling that never changes throughout the game.
- Miitopia
The music of this game is really good and captures perfectly the goofy atmosphere the game has, while still sounding epic or dark when it needs to. Not something you would expect from a mii game made by devs high on sprinkles.
- Spirit of the North
This one is very personal.
[Edit: here's the 14 songs playlist if you want to give it a try :)

That's my top 3 "kind of underrated games with a mn amazing soundtrack".
Gusty Garden Galaxy is my favourite song from a Nintendo game
i started crying during some of these songs because of nostalgia :)
Wow. What a fantastic list. There are so many great soundtracks, I don't know how I could choose. Awesome work here! :)
Your voice sounds cool and makes me feel relaxed watching your videos and also love your picks in this video especially DK and mario galaxy
acnl 7pm is my favorite piece of music of all time. it’s indescribable how it makes me feel and how much it means to me. i could go on but i’ll just leave it at that.
this is a great video man you have some really good choices! i really love tropical freeze’s music it’s just so good and definitely one of my favorite 2D platformers ever
Great list! I love the inclusion of Stardew Valley. Didn’t think I’d like the game but I love it. The soundtrack is so good
COMPLETELY AGREE ON CELESTE!!!
My attempt at a top 15 (the longer it goes, the less certain I feel about the rankings):
1. Final Fantasy 6 - Nobuo Uematsu's magnum opus, chock full of great melodies and moving character themes
2. Vagrant Story - Hitoshi Sakimoto's masterpiece, dark and brooding, but also rhythmic and bombastic
3. Super Castlevania 4 - My favorite Castlevania soundtrack, just a uniquely moody score which can also be catchy
4. Streets of Rage 2 - My favorite from Yuzo Koshiro, master of techno chiptunes, and this one I think was his best for that
The rest:
Parasite Eve
Donkey Kong Country 2
Grandia
Star Ocean 2
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins
Valkyrie Profile
Megaman 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
Gate of Thunder
Suikoden
Celeste has an amazing soundtrack, the only time I found it repetitive was during chapter 9, but that was probably because I was dying so often 10/10
OK WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR THE THIRD ACE ATTORNEY GAMES SOUNDTRACK
I have come back from the future to say you were right, I just beat Trials and Tribulations last night and it somehow had an even better soundtrack
I literally yelled out YAY when I saw Stardew Valley in your list. I so agree with everything you said about it. Concerned Ape is amazing.
I was listening to the Earthbound OST when I got a notification for this. I mean this list was predictable but I think it's still cool for explaining why these are such memorable soundtracks.
I was like there is no way he doesn’t add splatoon but then it got second place ♥️
One of my favorite soundtracks has to be Pokemon Sun and Moon. I know that game isn't that popular in the Pokemon series, but I really love everything about the game and it is my favorite Pokemon game. And it is home to my favorite video game song ever "The Battle at the Summit"
Good list! Fortunate enough to be familiar with all 15 :)
My number 1 fav is Risk of Rain 1, to me it’s a perfect OST with no duds. Follow-ups would be Dustforce, Tunic, Deadbolt, Rayman 2, Risk of Rain 2, Sephonie, Ecco: Defender of the Future, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles X
Just want to give a shout out to the Hollow Knight soundtrack too!
Tropical Freeze music goes hard
I totally agree but you should also check out the Starbound soundtrack it's just overwhelming and would definetly be in my list
(My favorites are "On the beach at night", "I was the Sun (before it was cool)", "Atlas" and "Planetarium")
I would just count Wii Sports to the Wii series (as well as the the e-shop and menu themes)
Edit: I completly forgot about the Mario & Sonic franchise (the older titles were better tho)
It means a weird amount to me to see Mini Ninjas represented even visually, just a very important game to me
Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 and pretty much the whole Halo series are my favourite soundtracks of all time
Xenoblade is on here that’s all I need
This is a great list! I love many of those games and the soundtracks! I'd also like to add an honorable mention: Wii Fit Plus. For a get-healthy fit game(that has some fun minigames too) the music has no right to be that good- I also love the Mario and Sonic at the 2012 london olympic games soundtrack, they're both extremely nostalgic to me as I played them a lot in the happiest period of my life.
My personal favorite is Waterfall from Undertale. Something about it makes me feel lonely but in a good way.
Earthbound and especially Mother 3 are definitely my favorite soundtracks of all time.
Such fire 🔥🔥🔥
No Nintendo Land? That's my jam.
Some of my top soundtracks from franchises not mentioned:
1. Rayman 1
2. Rithm paradise/heaven
3. Team fortress 2 (It's just the menu music but its so good)
4. Do GTA San Andreas radios count? They aren't OST but they're definitelly part of thr soundtrack
5. Cave Story
6. Terraria
7. Grim Fandango
No particular order, but Grim Fandango is definitelly the most underrated
For me trails series specifically the sky trilogy is one of my favorite music to listen to even for generic some of the background soolundtrack is
Okay, here's my list:
#10: Earthbound
Honestly, this soundtrack can be pretty hit or miss for me.
#9: Super Mario Sunshine
Honestly not anything too groundbreaking, but so many songs from Sunshine have become very iconic and recognizable, like Delfino Plaza or Bianco Hills. Also, I like it when games reuse their main melody for each song like Sunshine does. My personal favorite song is probably Deep Sea of Mare, it's just so relaxing!
#8: Paper Mario: The Origami King
This game has insanely catchy music. It's hard not to love it! But I have to admit, some songs like the boss themes can be a little samey. They are still great songs though! It's just a very solid soundtrack. My favorite one has to be the Purple Streamer Battle Theme, I just love the violins used in the song.
#7: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
I might be nostalgia biased since this was my first Zelda game, but I don't care.
#6: Kirby Triple Deluxe
This was the game that got me into Kirby, so it's very special to me.
#5: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
It's hard to say what DKC game has the best soundtrack between this and DKC 2, but I'll have to go with Tropical Freeze.
#4: Undertale
This soundtrack is just full of bangers.
#3: Deltarune
It's like Undertale, but I haven't grown tired of it yet. Enough said.
#2: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
This is definitely my nostalgia showing, but NL's music is just so calming and reflective that I can't help but get emotional whenever I listen to it, and I don't think nostalgia is the only factor to that. It's just a really nice and relaxing soundtrack. All the hourly music fits so well with the time of day. My favorite song is definitely 7pm.
#1: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Galaxy 1 is great, but I think Galaxy 2 has slightly better music so I'm putting it on the ist instead.
Where's Super Mario Galaxy 1 in your list?
dude, whilst galaxy 2 has great music, the vast majority of its soundtrack is copied from the first game.
Yeah, maybe 2/3 of them, but that still is quite a big chunk
- What I meant with originality was more or less about direct copies. I've seen people prefer galaxy 2's soundtrack because it has gusty garden, good egg, the galaxy reactor, buoy base and enter the galaxy's direct copies. that's why i brought it up. Even otherwise, remixes still deserve a tiny bit of critique for originality
- i agree, having the top 2 as mario galaxy would be kind of weird for those who haven't heard of it.
- i didn't intend for my response to sound too serious, that might've been a mistake on my end. i just wanted to point some stuff out, and i respect your opinion a lot. i like how you actually stated why you liked it more and gave reasons behind them.
@@chuckleberry2142 You replied to other person but not me despite I'm the first reply. I feel offended ;(
I really love Brawl’s soundtrack. All smash games have great soundtrack but Brawl is my personal favourite mostly for nostalgia. For me Brawl would be in the top 10.
My favorite video game soundtrack is the Yo-kai Watch 3 soundtrack. But my second favorite would probably be the one for LBX.
Just some of my favorite
Halo: CE-Reach is perfection, 4 is ok, 5 is mediocre, Infinite is great
Metroid Prime: I was able to love this game before I knew it existed. In Sup Space the main theme would play on a Samus mission(that had some difficult platforming) so I heard it a lot. Just finally played Prime last year and its an incredible game
SNES: Super Mario world, Link to the Past, and DK Country are incredible soundtracks. So many found memories of all these games.
Kingdom rush was very memorable as a kid gaming on an I pad. Such a great medieval theme throughout the game.
Minecraft, Mario Galaxy, and Stardew valley for just being the greatest
And last is Battlefield 1. There is so much emotion in the games OST that it's hard to describe. The music gets me pumped in game and out of game. And the more calming themes are extremely relaxing and sad
My favorite gaming OST of all time is old school runescape
great list, no complaints
I absolutely hated the Splatoon soundtrack save two songs, I even had to leave the room whenever my brother played it, so I'm surprised at the 2nd place lol
Toby fox better be on here
Professor layton and pandora's box is the best one by far especialy the outro music
Donkey kong country tropical freeze has great music.
I know it’s his favorites but ocarina of time is awesome
Wasn't this a pleasure to listen to!
this is a good list i need to pick up outer wilds I love games like oxnfree, so it's right up my alley
my top 5
1 new leaf just unbeatable
2 oxnfree play it you will love it
3. botw somehow made it up this far in the list as It's what the game needed
4 wii sports resort basically the same reason
5 Mario odyssey just due to how hype it gets me
play oxnfree if you like outer wilds then you'll love oxnfree
While I don't disagree with any of the choices you did make, I'm kinda sad that Prof Layton didn't even manage an honorable mention.
Except for some chosen series' representatives, there are some that I would pick differently, but that's detail questions.
I have not tried so many games but my favorite is wii sports resort super mario odyssey and slime rancher
What was that song for Outer Wilds? The one that he played before moving onto the next one? That one was so beautiful
That song is called "14.3 Billion Years" from the Outer Wilds OST!
What a good list
Heres my top 5
5. City Folk/wild world I love the music of it some much
4. Smash ultimate having many different of my favorites in one game is awesome
3. Mario Kart Wii this game is super nostalgic to me and I love almost all the songs from it
2. Persona 5 even as someone who hasn't played it yet I've listened to the soundtrack and it's this amazing jazzy style songs
1. Sonic unleashed this game is my favorite because all the different styles of music weathers is big band for the American inspired stage or jazzy and upbeat for the Africa inspired stage.
for someone that is a wiiman, it looks like you''ve never played mario galaxy
@@Albert_Pecanio I've played galexy 2 and I disliked it a lot
@@Wiiman365 i was referencing the superior predecessor
You should have included the name of the osts.......
For me it would either be Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story or Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky.
10. Batman Arkham Knight or Henry Stickmin (idk I just love these both)
9. Super Mario Bros 3
8. Super Mario 64
7. Batman Arkham Origins
6. Super Mario World
5. Super Mario Galaxy (and I guess Mario Galaxy 2 but I never played that and don't know any of the music, just assuming it is the same style)
4. Luigi's Mansion
3. Batman Arkham City
2. Batman Arkham Asylum
1. Minecraft (Not just nostalgia like Arkham and SMB 3, but it is just plain amazing; really calming, C418's music I mean)
Let's just say most of the top 20 is Mario 😂
DANG IT I ALREADY EDITED IT BUT UNDERTALE MIGHT BE NO. 10
My top ten:
1. Donkey Kong Country 2
2. Timesplitters 2
3. Metroid Prime
4. Ocarina of Time
5. Killer Instinct 2
6. Doom 64
7. Mega man X
8. F-Zero X
9. Turrican 2
10. Conkers Bad Fur Day
That's an interesting list. Props for showing the Rareware guys some love for their late nineties and early 2000s stuff too.
Celeste has my favorite soundtrack
Donkeykong 64 has sooooooooooo good music, every track
Others are almost everey zelda game and bioshock 1 +2
I am going to get DESTROYED saying this because the internet hates opinions most of the time
The amount of times I've seen the Mario Galaxy games (ESPECIALLY the first one, because of a certain theme I do not need to mention cause I bet you alreay know what it is) at the very top of a "best video game music" list is honestly bothersome for me. I'm more of a fan of the more underrated game/Mario OSTs (cause the Mario Galaxy games overshadow A LOT of them with the exception of obviously Wonder and SMO) like 3D Land, Slam Basketball, and Super Sluggers. if there was one OST that I'd say would be number 1 in my eyes, it's between those few, along with many others
Thought I'd get that off my chest
Also... If anyone's reading this, huge thank you, cause no one ever seems to see or care for my comments/replies most of the time, so a reply or even a like would be a lot. Again, if you're reading this, thank you
please help me what is the music playing at number 9 undertale?? im obsessed.
The first Undertale song is "Fallen Down" and the super high energy second song is "Spear of Justice!"
super mario galaxy AND new super mario bros wii
I had to give it to new super Mario bros wii because I grew up with it
Surprised a smash game didn’t make this list
SDV Better be on here man.
LETS GO
Wii Sports - for the meme 👌
My List
1. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time
2. Terraria: Calamity Mod
3. Octopath Traveler
4. Xenoblade Chronicles
5. Ori and the Blind Forest
6. Hollow Knight
7. Persona 4
8. Fire Emblem Echoes
9. Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
10. Bravely Default
Based on these, does anyone have any recommendations?
