It's the greatest OST in all of Toby's works for me. My DnD character had this ost playing on the background in her defining moment and I forever link this theme to her
When "For the Fans," an actual somewhat emotional song representing the connection between entertainer and fandom, ranks lower than Toby's washing machine(Long Elevator). *Facepalms intensify
I can understand why people ranked long elevator higher, probably for the jokes. But for the fans is a really emotional track and one of my favorites too. It definitely deserved a higher place.
When death by glamour ended, my mind was expecting ASGORE, since that’s usually what comes next when listening to it on my phone. I was not expecting it to pay off
I just cannot believe how the incredible masterpiece „long elevator“ only ended up on the 66th place. The pure melancholy and sadnes resembles the journey our character had, yet the little bumb mirrors the hope we relieved. Its sad to see a brilliant composition like this, on such a low place in the ranking.
its raining somewhere else needs a higher placement. its a really underrated song and is not only really nice, it also shows the more quiet side of sans he would keep to himself most of the time. edit: woag thanks for the approval
But for me Sans doesn't like humans, he wants us to die . He knows who are the humans but Papyrus doesn't. That mean one thing for me, the job of Sans is killing humans, he told that in the genocide route: "So i'm pretty good at my job, huh?" :) But it's just for me, you don't have to believe it.

Fallen Down has always made me sad, I’ve never played Undertale honestly but I know a decent amount but for some reason I never saw Fallen Down as happy
"song that might play when you fight sans" was never intended to be played in game. In the soundtrack it is placed right when you should be meeting sans in the judgement hall. It's for those who looked at the soundtrack before playing the game. Kinda like a troll you could say. Someone looks at the song track and sees sans name in the theme. You go to the judgement hall expecting to fight sans. Instead he just judges you and lets you walk by. Even outside the game, sans is still messin with ya. "through time and space" you could say.
It’s also so that megalovania catches you by surprise in the genocide route. If you’re going into the fight expecting the STMPWYFS (even as an acronym it’s a mouthful), then you’re immediately gonna go into an “oh sh*t” state of mind, which is exactly what Sans’s fight is supposed to do. It tests your determination.
Glad to see my favorite song ASGORE in the top ten. I’m sad that SAVE The World and Last Goodbye aren’t higher. The reason ASGORE is my favorite is because the transition dramatic from Bergentrückung to ASGORE just hits so hard. It gets me every time and it’s the perfect final boss song. No one is surprised that Megalovania is top, and Hopes and Dreams isn’t surprising either. I’m sad that Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans isn’t in the game. But nonetheless, it’s really good.
I love how for songs in #3 and #2 there are heartfelt messages on the screen about the emotions they convey to the players, while for #1 is like *"Well, megalovania won. You can go now, the ranking's over"*

Fun fact, the song “It’s raining somewhere else” might be a nod to another secret where you give goner kid an umbrella he/she says “An umbrella?” And “it’s raining somewhere else”. My theory is that he says this because many other players are doing genocide. The fact that you can only see goner kid on a pacifist or neutral run states this.
Here is my theory: if the song “it’s raining somewhere else” can only play during dinner time with sans. He tells you that in an alternate universe where he hadn’t made a promise to Toriel, quote: “you’d be dead where you stand”. This alternate universe is the one it is raining in because your death has caused great suffering for monster kind, resulting in a cloud of a thousand tears

Fun fact: the making of "sans." was extremely lazy since it had only 4 instruments with no mixing at all. The instrument used for the motif is SGM soundfont clavinet.
For some reason Good Night for me is number 1. The reasoning behind this is because it fits **so** well as a very last song in the OST. It also brings a bedtime story to a close, since the first song of the OST being "once upon a time" and the last one being "Good Night", obviously. That instantly makes it a bedtime song as well, in a way. And oh, what a bedtime song it is.
Okay so now I'm forever going to think of the story of Undertale as a bedtime story that monsters and humans tell to their kids so they understand why they all get along now

A late comment regarding a small thing: "Bergentrückung", for those who don't know, is a historical concept from old tales, more than a traditional one word translation. A "Bergentrückung" is when a king gets sealed under a mountain/cave until his people/country need him, for him to return and save them. Both german and scandinavian mythologies include that concept.
Asgore is my favorite track. Why? Well, it sounds exactly what it's like.. a Good guy, trying to convince himself to do a horrible thing for what he believes is the greater good.

It's perfect because of who you're fighting and what happens after the fight! A perfect song for fighting the King of the underground and a nice introduction to the final boss
Came here from the ost playlist and when i saw Xiao Andy mentioned on hopes and dreams i was ecstatic. Now if you don’t know who Xiao Andy is, he is the person who commented on EVERY SINGLE UNDERTALE OST VIDEO. He got top comment on over half of them I’ll say. So seeing him here made me smile.

That’s the beauty of the thing in the shower. It is scarier the more terrified you are. You can just boldly find nothing behind the curtain, or spend 15 minutes slowly watching a creepy wiggling monstrosity as the sound intensifies until you develop a fear of showers in real life. *I can’t wait to show my nephews this game.*

Hmmm, all the songs are great... and they all convey the feeling of every moment of the game very well, and I think they should all be appreciated equally.
It's awesome to see people still making Undertale videos close to 5 years after the game's release. Also, Hopes & Dreams is my favorite track and I always liked it more than Megalovania.
The songs that Toby Fox made are so good that most of them have to be placed low not because it’s bad but because other songs are just too good. Undertale is a damn good game
Megalovania is actually a great and catchy song imo, but it's just overhyped. Asgore's theme is near #1 in my heart, along with all the versions of Memories (including His Theme... ugh my heart breaks)
Legitimately, It's Raining Somewhere Else is my favorite track Toby Fox has composed, as I feel it's one of his most emotional pieces. It's like the phrase "this too shall pass" in musical form, and fits Sans' dramatically shifting character so well. All that, and I'm just a sucker for the slow, jazz styled music. Those piano chords send shivers down my spine more than Sans' fight. While I'm sad it wasn't higher, I'm glad it at least made the top 50.

Personally, Spider dance (38:38) is the best one. It's that one song that sends shivers through your entire body because of how well the song fits the "Boss battle" theme, making it sound really good.

I feel like hopes and dreams feels more climatic and high energy so ppl consider it better by default. Mind u, I also think save the world is better but u really need context of the game to fully appreciate it. Without it, hopes and dreams is the better song.
Yeah, while I wouldn't say it's my favorite song out of the _entire_ soundtrack (that honor goes to Spiderdance), Waterfall is by _far_ my favorite "zone theme", and is still one of my favorites when taking the entire soundtrack into account.

#1- *Wrong Number Song* The wrong number song is a musical masterpiece. There’s no going back after you hear the wrong number song. I wish I could go back to when I first heard the wrong number song, for it is the best feeling in the world. Toby Fox must have put all of his effort into the wrong number song, and it shows.
I didn't know "it's raining somewhere else" would be so low... I think it is amazing. It really catches this nostalgia of a home for sans and a sadness he carries.
I remember hearing long ago somewhere that Once Upon a Time is used in Hotel because the fountain in MTT Resort originally had the Asriel statue from Waterfall on it before Mettaton replaced it with a statue of himself.

The pure melancholy and sadnes resembles the journey our character had, yet the little bumb mirrors the hope we relieved. "song that might play when you fight sans" was never intended to be played in game. In the soundtrack it is placed right when you should be meeting sans in the judgement hall. It's for those who looked at the soundtrack before playing the game. Kinda like a troll you could say. Someone looks at the song track and sees sans name in the theme. You go to the judgement hall expecting to fight sans. Instead he just judges you and lets you walk by. Even outside the game, sans is still messin with ya. "through time and space" you could say.

It’s also so that megalovania catches you by surprise in the genocide route. If you’re going into the fight expecting the STMPWYFS (even as an acronym it’s a mouthful), then you’re immediately gonna go into an “oh sh*t” state of mind, which is exactly what Sans’s fight is supposed to do. It tests your determination.

I’m sad that SAVE The World and Last Goodbye aren’t higher.
The reason ASGORE is my favorite is because the transition dramatic from Bergentrückung to ASGORE just hits so hard. It gets me every time and it’s the perfect final boss song. No one is surprised that Megalovania is top, and Hopes and Dreams isn’t surprising either. I’m sad that Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans isn’t in the game. But nonetheless, it’s really good.

For some reason Good Night for me is number 1. The reasoning behind this is because it fits **so** well as a very last song in the OST. "Bergentrückung", for those who don't know, is a historical concept from old tales, more than a traditional one word translation. A "Bergentrückung" is when a king gets sealed under a mountain/cave until his people/country need him, for him to return and save them. Both german and scandinavian mythologies include that concept.

Legitimately, It's Raining Somewhere Else is my favorite track Toby Fox has composed, as I feel it's one of his most emotional pieces. It's like the phrase "this too shall pass" in musical form, and fits Sans' dramatically shifting character so well. All that, and I'm just a sucker for the slow, jazz styled music. Those piano chords send shivers down my spine more than Sans' fight. While I'm sad it wasn't higher, I'm glad it at least made the top 50.
Would have deserved top 20 for sure imho. Also the setting, I mean Sans tells you that he'd have killed you if he did not make this promise to Toriel

Personally, Spider dance (38:38) is the best one. It's that one song that sends shivers through your entire body because of how well the song fits the "Boss battle" theme, making it sound really good.

Spider Dance is one of the best boss songs without even being remixed. And in SayMaxWell's mashup the beat dropped harder than Frisk onto underground.

Really like save the world a lot more than hopes and dreams, its just so awesome to have this hopeful and upbeat music playing in the back while you are saving everyone
I feel like hopes and dreams feels more climatic and high energy so ppl consider it better by default. Mind u, I also think save the world is better but u really need context of the game to fully appreciate it. Without it, hopes and dreams is the better song.

I remember hearing long ago somewhere that Once Upon a Time is used in Hotel because the fountain in MTT Resort originally had the Asriel statue from Waterfall on it before Mettaton replaced it with a statue of himself.
also another theory was because alphys created both flowey and mtt. they are both interlinked
