i've been to football stadium that owned by a university in shanghai. i was shocked, the stadium was very luxury. and the football field was international quality. plus, it opened for public. but funny thing was, nobody play football there. there were a group of old people doing taichi, some playing frisbee, some only jogging and doing gym exercises.
I think that's what happened with Bangladesh in Cricket. They were a minnow compared to the 12 stronger one-day nations, but they kept playing against them.. they lost a lot.. but eventually they started winning.. and now they win quite regularly.
I have looked at Google Maps and I have noticed that there are very few places that they dedicate to football fields in rural areas on China... It is not for lack of space... They just don't do it...
This a great video that opens nicely the discussion of how complicated it is to practice certain sports in Shanghai. Have you tried to connect with FITFAM? They organize workouts in various stadiums and sports areas for free around the city. They might bit able to help you with the search for the ideal football area.
Very fair observation! Honestly I don't mind football not being a popular thing in China, but I do mind those male football players, especially in the national team, who don't play well in big competitions but get paid way more than they deserve.
A lot better video than your culture shock video. And you got most of the reasons right. I will add one more. The GOVERNMENT. A lot of things in China is dictated by the government. If the government felt the need to improve China's standing in world football, they would have put in place a system to harness the talent. But China focused on Olympic sports and sports where you can win multiple gold medals like track and field, swimming, shooting. China has also hosted both the summer and winter Olympic games but not the world cup football. Its not that China doesn't have the infrastructure or the money, its that they don't feel like doing it. BTW, China just hosted the Asian Games.
A lot, I mean A Lot of money was invested in football. There’s just no such thing as football culture. Without it China won’t ever get better in that sport.
There is a lot of investment in Football in China. Hopefully, in the future, we can sit by the TV or in the stadium, excited for a Shanghai derby like an El Clasico:))
@@shanghaiandi768 That's right, u can see many passionate fans if u come to the stadium, we do have our own football club culture even if our national team always make us disappointed.
past: football like basketball and other sport, like Russia, Soviet Union mode system. but compare to Russia, football ground is not that good. middle school has football ground, but not regular, and lack of maintain. But, based on the system, the national team's level neither good nor bad. 1992-2000: like market economy. the old system gone, the new system is totally worse. yes, they have plan, but the only few school in China teach professional football skill and training. 2001-now: still few school provide professional football skill and training, all company and supense just want short benefit, no one willing to train football talent boy, cause "it will be help others/enemy". plus, there are basicly only 2 type football players: 1. super rich family. play football is a hobby. when they grow up, they will be the banker, gov officer, company owner. 2. super poor family. comes from these family, you can't expect they are smart as normal Chinese IQ who grauated from University. they only advantage is "tough spirit" in play ground. these kids have only one GOAL---MAKING BIG MONEY. but improve skill is hard, so, u know it. fake match, casino, cruppt. some player buy his own team lose in casino. lol In China, u can't laugh everyone. but it's ok for laughing National football team(men! not girls. girls team are world first class.) If Korea win Brazil, and it not in same group with Japan, then China football association will be a real joke--now u don't need to study football in EU or South America anymore, just study in North Asia. lol For realistic estimate, China men football's rival is no longer EU\South America, not Japan/Korea/Australia/north America, even not south asia, it's rivals is India football team, which world rank is over 150/250. 2 largets population country, has the shittest football team! America not a fan of football, but at least they can join world cup most time.
Your ideas are pretty correct. I agree with you.

football is a team sport; you need to roundup a number of players to play a game. which can be difficult.
Interesting video. It's kind of sad that the pioneers of Cuju (the earliest form of football) allowed the culture to die away.
Make China football great again !!
你说的很中肯。谢谢

Nice video and a very interesting insight! I think the government has truly failed by making the most accessible sport inaccessible😅

Yes they are an awesome community. With a bit of effort it isn't hard to do the sport you want in Shanghai

nowadays young men in China have more interest in LOL than football, and even basketball too, I guess...
