    I grew up on the tennis circuit, and I also played a lot of racquetball and paddle tennis; I've never played pickle ball. But, what I noticed immediately -- both with McGuffin and Johns (and all others that I've watched) -- is the fact that there's much too much back-and-forth "finesse" shots at the net, and too little "banging away" (read: hit the ball directly at your opponent, and hit it hard, before the finesse shots even begin!). I believe that the odds for scoring would favor the banger rather than the finesse player, and, at least, it would make the game a lot more interesting to watch.
    Just as importantly, the players MUST develop their backhands, whereby they can make their passing shots (low and hard ala Federer) from the backcourt, and not just use the stroke for a punch ball at the net. HIT AWAY NOW, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THE GAME WILL BE IN A YEAR OR TWO!

    • @BrianMeeks
      @BrianMeeks ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Typically "bangers" are in the 3.0 - 3.5 range.
      To improve beyond that, one must develop finesse.
      Everyone is a "banger" when they start.
      It's a fun game and if you enjoyed tennis, you would likely enjoy pickleball, too. Running around the court is a great way to get exercise and have fun.

    As a varsity 1 seed tennis player in my hay-day, I can't understand why Ben is watching MCGuffin slice and volley every single return and didn't start attacking it until the middle of the second game? It's like he knew what was coming and instead of trying to force a winner he just popped the ball up directly in the middle of the court and watched McGuffin run it down his throat over and over again?

    Seems like Ben calls anything close out right away.

      Ben is well known for playing any ball close and probably the most fair line caller out there.

    I love playing Pickleball, I would do it everyday if I could. But watching Pickleball on a screen is like watching paint dry. Maybe it’s just me…

      I much prefer to watch doubles as there seems to be so much more variation.

      It has less appeal on the screen than in person IMO. I like watching on screen to slow down the speed and learn but unlike pro tennis, there is not that much variety in points. Especially in doubles. But playing it is great.

      I'm with you. Gave it 6 minutes just to see a recommended video, and I can't do it... there's too many other things for my time esp if this is the two best in the sport trying to mimic tennis strokes with a plastic 3/4 ounce ball, ugh. I'd never pay a nickel to watch this live or otherwise. Funny, I came to comments if anyone thought the same. Yup lol
