It’s interesting how even after all this insanity and death has happened, Yoda still doesn’t want to know WHY Anakin turned to the dark side. This has happened before when Dooku, Yoda’s own former apprentice, fell to the dark. It’s because of this ignorance within the Jedi Order that caused Jedi to leave and embrace the far more appealing Sith.

It is interesting indeed. What's also interesting, is in the Dark Plagueis novel, when Dooku was still a Jedi, he tells Palpatine “If one more Jedi dies because of indolence on the part of the Republic and moral equivocation on the part of the Council, I will leave the Temple and refuse to look back.” And as we know, Qui-Gon's death impacted one of the reasons of Dooku's departure from the Order.

@@buntsbooks Yes, nicely consistent with the recent Tales of the Jedi animation, in it's way.
And gives a good excuse for his leaving, before any of his fishy business started to come to light.

@@chrissonofpear1384 Yes. One thing though. I see so many youtube fanfics doing their what ifs based on the movie. I think this book would be a much more interesting premise. You see just how powerful Vader is more and he could've won at the end. The movie doesn't mention the holocrons so you could have a Vader who didn't burn based on this book studying these holocrons. I know some fanfics do but it is thrown in based on the events of the movie. I think the book does a better job overall. Also at the end if Anakin hadn't drawn his lightsaber where Kenobi had skill he could have killed him in a second. You could've had the scene with Qordis from the Darth Bane novel. Anakin would be more than capable of doing that. In the hands of the truly powerful, I've always seen the lightsaber as a crutch, a lazy way to fight that caters to the weak. As was said in the Bane novel someone with great lightsaber skills can beat someone stronger in the Force. In that case, don't use the lightsaber if you are strong in the Force. I know lightsabers are cool but they suck for the strong and put you on a level with the weak.

Boganophobia: An irrational fear of Bogan, The Dark Side, which can, ironically enough lead to The Dark Side.

I love how the novel really addresses just how powerful Palpatine is. Darth Sidious is the single most powerful individual in the galaxy, so much that both Yoda and Obi-Wan admit that even together they couldn't defeat him. The Emperor is the kind of villain who can't be defeated in a straight-up fight, nor can he be outsmarted in any game of wits. It is only a much smaller, simpler thing which ends up finally defeating him in the end.

"MY failure this was. FAILED the Jedi I did.
Too old I was. Too rigid. Too ARROGANT to see that the old way is not the ONLY way! These Jedi, I've trained many to become like the Jedi who trained me, long centuries ago. But those ancient Jedi of a different time they were. Changed has the galaxy since. Changed the Order did not. Because LET it change I did NOT !"

So many dad jokes as Vader killed the Seperatists.

Normally I don't find dad jokes to be funny, but in this case, I found the ones Vader said funny.

Well "Vader" is Dutch for "father," so it makes perfect sense for him to crack dad jokes.

I love how Yoda KNOWS he's out-matched by Sidious but still also KNOWS that he has to face him. The book also perfectly describes how Yoda failed the Jedi order. He'd been preparing them to fight the Sith from 1000 years ago. The Sith had changed and grown while the Jedi stayed contented and stagnant. The Jedi were focused on protecting an elected body and forgot to ask themselves this question: since when have elected bodies EVER been the arbiters of what is right and wrong? The Sith were moving as one, focused on the dark side of the force - the Jedi were focused on protecting a corrupt government. The REPUBLIC (like WE are) had DEVOLVED into a Democracy and a democracy will ALWAYS devolve into dictatorships. But the WAY Lucas sends that message is just pure brilliance. He saw what was coming decades ago.

The Republic that is SUPPOSED to be a democracy (like us) devolves into a dictatorship (hopefully unlike us, hence why the Trumpists must never be allowed anywhere near the presidency again).

I wonder if Yoda was right when he claimed that Obi-Wan stood no chance against Sidious.

    • @buntsbooks

Since Yoda lost to Sidious, I don't think Obi-Wan would've lasted as long as Yoda had.

4:52 What is that rythmic, pulsating droning sound that begins playing from here onward? Part of the movie's soundtrack or a sound effect? (and if so, from where?)

I’m assuming that it’s a sound effect made for these audiobooks. I don’t know what is the name. It sounds cool though.
