Happy Homestuck 4/13 - 2023!
It's something I wanted to do for a very, very, VERY long time. Ever since my first video I wanted to animate this exact scene so I really hope you'll enjoy what came out of it in this Passion Project of mine.
After succumbing to Horrorterrors call after her mother's death, Rose Lalonde faces off against the deadly Jack Noir on the grounds of battlefield of Skaia, clashing forces of the Dark Gods agains the might of the Green Sun.
It's time to make him pay, Seer.

I really wanter do animate this scene since my first animation, I did it with A LOT of passion in about... one and a half month I think. I wasn't even sure if i'll managed to get it finished before the 4/13... And honestly I'm really proud of how it turned out. Maybe not perfect but... i think it turned out pretty good.

personally i think john shouldnt have attacked, his death being so sudden was well, the gasp moment, and plus it made sure he didn't die heroically as he never managed to do anything
I also thought this, glad to see I'm not the only one. Ofc this animation is still kickass, but it was such an important detail in the comic that John drew his weapon and DIDN'T get to attack before he was killed, because that made sure his death was neither heroic or just.
It was necessary to be sudden or else his death would be heroic becsue he had intent to kill a villain

Holy shit. I just spotted something. At the end of the fight, Jack grabs his face, in pain, obviously. Then, he strikes a dramatic pose, as if there were cameras. But at 4:18, The BLACK QUEEN's hand pokes in from out of frame to grab him by the shoulder. That's why he whirls around all of a sudden.
I feel very proud of myself for having spotted this.

@@higztv1166 Who else is there? The Court Droll? The Draconian Dignatary? The only other named Derse residents available are The Hegemonic Brute, who was killed by the Parcel Mistress; the Black King, who Jack beheaded; and the Authority Regulator and Warweary Villein, both of whom Jack doesn't really give a shit about. True, it's just a hallucination, the Queen died in [S] Ascend but no other Derse resident could have that effect on Jack.
And before you say "It's Jack's hand", the one armed clown means he only has the right arm that is holding his face.

Every time I thought, 'okay, this cannot get cooler' I was swiftly proven wrong. I LOVE the action, and the way the character designs were translated - especially the touches on Bec Noir, like the green glow of his eyes and ring, and the interesting textures that give it almost a toybox vibe. The action felt a little floaty in places but overall is super snappy and exciting! The long shot of the planets in the Medium, goddamn. And then Rose devastating The Battlefield? THE RED MILES AND THE TEXT BOX????? THE DOC SCRATCH INTERLUDE WITH SLICK AND DAMARA AND NEVERMORE????
The way the Grimdark magics is done is super neat too, how it's not just amorphous but visibly tentacular, and its power is almost on a level with BN's, like it feels like GD Rose is legitimately giving him a run for his money, especially at the end. Absolutely phenomenal work!

i really wanna see [S] Enter reanimated, where Rose is going into Sburb. its still one of my all time favorite scenes in all of Homestuck and the music SELLS everything going on in it

What a great way to celebrate 4/13. I always was sad this didn't get an animation in the comics, thank you so much for doing this! It is just amazing! Part of me was sad it was so fast paced as sometimes i barely could understand what was going on, but it also felt necessary.

I've been listening to this since I was in culinary school. I'm already working and this still slaps.
The only thing I regret about this video is that I can't use it to lure new readers in. It's too good and will set a slightly different expectations.

This animation is gorgeous. So many nice touches throughout. The shadow Rose trying to distract Jack by making him fall into darkness. The shattering effects on the landscape. The fractal nature of the Red Miles. Those are some of my favorite details.
And all the visual spectacle is fantastically choreographed and matches the music well.
So… this is a taste of what Monty Oum would’ve done if he’d been a Homestuck.

holy shit. its SO fast paced i think i need to watch this like 20 times over on slower speed to catch all the details that are here, holy FUCK
i don't know if I've just never come across them, but this feels like the first ever animation of this fight??? looking at the canon panels, it looks very cool in the gif implications, and obviously making a full fight scene with special effects in 2d for free would have been insane at the time, plus homestuck (generally) goes for imply not show for epic battles, so i def understand why it is like that, but i never really imagined how COOL it could be. you've also made it more epic and wide ranging and destructive than implied so its not a "faithful" recreation, but i do not care it is so fucking awesome i don't even know what to say. so fucking cool!!!!!! fuck!

Your videos capture the epicness of the story in a way the comic, amazing as it was, only ever managed to hint at except for a handful of [S] panels.
This kinda reminds me of when i used to watch people make homestuck characters on Soul Caliber LOL. Havent seen 3d animation of HS since that, this is fucking amazing,
I wanted to leave a more detailed comment here, so here are some things about this animation that I've found interesting:
-No build-up? I liked the slow build-up from the original flash, kinda wish it was here as well
-I really like your Grimdark Rose design. She looked really weird in the comic with that grey color palette, but here she looks just about perfect
-The way Jack kills John is very natural, you can tell how easy it was for him
-Everything is black! They're fighting on a planet where it's supposed to be light 24/7, why is it so dark in here?
-0:20 I like how Jack is surprised that someone was able to block his attack, for the first time actually
-0:51 What's up with this doppelganger Rose? Is that Rose's new ability or something? And, she was trying to twist Jack's neck, right? looks sick btw
-2:00 Have the red miles touched her? It's hard to tell, but I guess no, since she didn't get any wounds
-2:55 Technically, Slick can't watch the kids' session through these monitors, buuuut who cares anyway, nice cameo
-the way the fight ends looks very similar to one of your previous animations, with Sollux and Eridan, the way they both are trying to redirect each other's attacks is very anime
-Ahhh, I can't believe I missed Jack's scar in the previous videos! I mean, I noticed it, but I haven't paid any attention, I thought it was just a part of his redesign, I didn't think it was a literal scar
you pulled a similar move here to what was in homestuck itself, with Jack's arm being covered in blood for the whole act for no apparent reason, only for us to see this reason in the very end and realise how dramatic it is
which made me realise - there's no blood on his hand in your videos! makes me wonder what you're preparing for the cascade animation
-Also really interesting how you basically swapped power-levels of Rose and Vriska. In the canon it was pretty much the opposite - Rose got disposed of fairly quickly, and Vriska was implied to be Jack's equal
But your version kinda makes more sense - Rose is endowed with Horrorterror's power (which is a big deal), so she should be able to give Jack a run for his money, and Vriska is just on the normal god tier level
something tells me you're not a great Vriska fan, I can relate
in conclusion: dude, you're an absolute legend, thank you for all you're doing for the fandom
If I remember from the walkabout game, there were moments of black ooze stains around. That and I imagine the horrorterrors could have influenced the scene to make Skaia dark.
Doppelganger rose I IMAGINE is a version of seer powers combined with horror terrors. Instead of seeing the path ahead, perhaps the doppelganger was trying to mess with Jack's head both figuratively and literally.
As for the dispairty in power levels of Rose and Vriska... Well, feels like Vriska should have had a closer fight, I admit, but I like the idea of Rose's rage fueling her power and horrorterror's connection more.
i'm just waiting for something like [s]Maker her pay or a 4 part cascade due to how long that would be.

This is genuinely mind boggling. I didn't know people were still making homestuck animations at all, much less some of the most impressive ones I've ever seen. The carapacians' designs and the textures on everything in particular are really good details, I like the way that Jack has the texture of fabric stretched over a mannequin and actually looks like he has an insect-like carapace underneath on the torso, especially in [S] Jack: Ascend. Major props dude, keep it up

I guess the only criticism I have, is that the models faces sometimes look a little like they aren't really emoting much at all; and the movement sometimes seems a little too 'smooth'. Other than that, holy shit yes
