@@WillBiavati for under $20 you can get a motorcycle grip heater kit which is just a couple of thin electric heat films and some shrink wrap. To power it I have a few solutions. One is to get a 12v power pack. In the coldest conditions batteries don’t work so well, so I put the second grip heater on the battery pack and/or keep it near my body. My other trick is to make part of the tripod into the battery pack - photographers are always complaining about battery life, and you’re carrying around a bunch of hollow tubes…
Tried one of these recently, brand new, the legs are have so much play when extended it was literally impossible to get a steady shot unless it was completely static. The action of unlatching the legs was satisfying and felt robust, the head was decent and it was fairly light and simple to use. Features are great but the tripod has to function as well as a tripod first and foremost. Great video though Gerald!

I like it. Before he said anything about the bear I thought of Andy Richter and Randy is the perfect name to distinguish the two of them. And Gerald has a similar look to Conan O'Brien as well. Go for Randy Richter, Gerald!
The Sirui tripod has a much better head, and overall is a better value if one is after a total tripod & head solution, because adding an equivalent head to this one would end up costing as much if not more than the Sirui. SmallRig's carbon fiber tripod is roughly the same price as this, but it's a tandem leg style with mid level spreaders. That means the SmallRig can't drop as low; however, it might offer more overall rigidity when in the classic tripod stance. The SmallRig head on the carbon fiber legs is also slightly better than the YC onion as it does have pan drag, and has been verified to be very smooth, but it's head is nothing compared to the Sirui head, and if one were to add an equivalent head after it would push the SmallRig's price beyond that of the Sirui. That said one would have tandem legs vs single shaft if that appeals to one. With all this said I agree that it would be great if Gerald could review the other two at some point
@@billyoung9538 I have the smallrig legs combined with the tried and true 502 head, phenomenal combo and would 10/10 recommend it. Money very well spent
I rented the Small Rig legs and for the price, it’s going to be hard to beat. However, for my use case, that aren’t ideal. I need something quick to set up, tear down, and can quickly be adjusted to fit quickly into unconventional spaces. Which basically rules out any legs with a mid spreader. The legs are chunky bois too which makes transporting on location a little quickly. I’ve only heard that the Sirui struggles from sticky legs so they don’t always seem to deploy as quickly as they should.
@geraldundone the main reason why manufacturers started making plast, cork, rubber handels/gribs on carbon fiber tripods is that after rough handling over years carbon fiber start splinter and small thin fibers start stick out and you don't wanna get that in your hand. It will never come out again and can potentially be dangerous. However there is various types of lacquer that can safe your tripod if the carbon start splinter so that's the positive side. I'm happy the most carbon tripods today comes with the protection gribs 🙂
I thought the same thing - they look nearly identical! The only difference I noticed was that the smallrig one has a horizontal fluid damping ring on the base.
Could you possibly move the Bear to your desk chair on the right side of frame, then shift the guest chair out, and do standing product reviews on the left when you need more space? Or would panning the camera screen left to frame you properly on that side reveal the edge of the set?
Love the look of the new setup and the TV is surprisingly effective. You might not have room for it but it seems you need a dedicated area for product reviews if that’s still going to be a focus for your channel. Lining up guests for the talk show is a lot of work and planning administratively so it’s important to consider how you’ll be balancing this all out as you grow your channel to the next level. Best of luck to ya!
I've been using their Pineta monopod for months now and I'm honestly shocked at how well it's held up. I expected the mechanisms to give out at some point but it seems to be rock solid. Impressive stuff from a seemingly random company!
Could you look at possibly covering the Sirui SVT75Pro? Similar 1 lever style and around the same price but seems to have an over all better look and feel
There is similar design SmallRig FreeBlazer tripod - 4163 for example. There is carbon fiber and aluminum version. Prices 149-399$ depending what configuration you get. So not so sure this one is competitively priced.
I had a chance to meet YConion team last week at ther head office in shenzhen and I saw the tripod this is one solid build with lots of option and mainly the smooth opening of the locking mechanism is awwsome.
Hope u could review the new one from sirui as well, similar design with a spreader with it. Wanna know how it's performing when lowering the tripod🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
You might want to compare directly with the new Sirui which seems to provide more standard film features like the proper feet from a bigger tripod company at an even better price point.
How's the torsional rigidity? I just received the Sirui Rapid Set up tripod and found the amount of twist in the legs unacceptable for doing precise work. I plan on returning it. I was wondering if these legs have little to no twist, especially when panning at a high pan setting. Thanks.
I would really love to see a comparison between the Pineta Peak, the Smallrig Freeblazer, and the Sirui SVT75 rapid. Specifically the legs, and how the latches perform. I have the Sirui and while I like it, the latches don't have a reassuring "click" that the other models seem to have. Also it's easy to pinch your hand in the mechanism if you have big hands like me.
I was thinking the same. It looks like a copy of that. The video head is also a copy of a Smallrig one with the built-in RS2 switches. I've seen that before. I do like the 75mm bowl on this. I might update my tripods with that, because its better adjustments, not like the ones where you have to reach under.
I was going to buy one until I looked at their site and the $549 price is only for the tripod and the bowl head. If you add the fluid head and shaft that's in your video, it's $878. Love your videos, but the way this one is presented makes it seem like you get everything in the video for around $500.
@@Rashadmcka I'm just saying the way the video is presented, it looks like you get everything including the center rod for $550. Saying at the end that people ask him about what tripod to buy that's $400-$500, and then recommending this one is misleading. People wanting to spend $500 on a tripod aren't factoring in the cost of a fluid head, they want everything for that price. Again, I'm a fan of Gerald, but I'm going to be honest when I think something is wrong.
It’s been a while since I have watched one of your videos. Everything has changed! No intro music, different set. It’s like you’re a guest on someone else’s channel. Oh well, nothing stays the same.
I’ve been waiting for someone to talk about this tripod ever since NAB! Thank you! What are your feelings about the overall expected durability - my one hang up is that I don’t know much about the brand.
Unfortunately I had a bad experience with this brand. I used it for a few months and while in the process of setting up at a location the bowl cracked leaving me with a bipod that had most of the bowl attached to it and a third leg with a small chunk of bowl attached. It had not been dropped or hit with anything. I have never had anything like this happen with a piece of equipment. Very disappointing. They got me a replacement bowl after about 3 weeks. I got the legs attached to the new bowl but now one of the thumb buttons on one of the legs will not function correctly. Invest the money and go with the Sachtler sticks.
@geraldundone Are you still using the GH-06 head from e-image ? I must buy one, and I hesitate between the e-image GH-06F and the SVH15 sirui... any recommendation ?
That outro wasn't the ending we deserved, but the one we needed. Semi-Kidding aside, the ability to deploy and break down with three levers makes me wish I could have gone back in time and gotten something like this vs. my three-legged tripod.
this tripod does look great, but I still stand behind the immense value in the (I believe somewhat new) SmallRig FreeBlazer. $250 for just the legs and the 75mm bowl mount, single stage release, 72 inches tall, carbon fiber, removable feet with spikes underneath, adjustable mid level spreader, ticks damn near every single box except for being able to get ultra low to the ground. But combined with the ever popular 502 fluid head, you're looking at a damn solid $500 setup that I would 10/10 recommend

Thanks for the review - I've got the Sachtler Flowtech 75 legs which are great, and I want another set, but they're super expensive. Looking at these YC Onion legs and the Sirui SVT75 pros as alternatives - they seem comparable in price. Wondered if anyone had got their hands on both and whether there was any preference/different?
Heya, thanks for the review. I’m wondering how this tripod performs compared to the Sirui Rapid Tripod? It looks like an “identical” system minus the “coconut head” but with the option for a middle spreader
Hello, i have the same tripod and its quite wobbly. When I extend the legs all the way and clamp them down, there is a lot of play at both locking points. I contacted YC Onion to return it, and they said that is how it was designed, so if i wanted to return it, I would have to pay my own shipping. But its obviously defective.
You prefer this than the small rig an sirui ones? I think they are in the same price range of 500 and feel very similar features than the sachtler also
Question Gerald, how is the Mono-arm, actually secured and it’s length adjusted?? I saw you put it through the block head opening but you never “secured” it??? That head by the way is the same design used by many other “off brand” tripod manufacturers, like Cayer and others. And it’s ok as you said, but larger payloads become problematic.
You would think now that we have a few manufacturers creating single leg latch tripods, there's gotta be a single latch rapid mono out there. Man I would love that for wedding work!!!
After a couple years of using various fireplace videos in my background TV for twitch streams, I'd recognize that video anywhere! Set is looking so good btw!
Gerald, could you suggest an another, more adjustable head for someone who’s trying to find that sweet spot between quality and price? Thank you for this video; been eyeing the Sachtler for a while, but the price is bonkers.
At least you know you are not beta testing these tripods like everyone else will be..the satchler you are sure it will hold for 10yrs plus but these ones, we will have to see if they even exist on 2 years😅😅
I highly discourage you to invest into this brand. The quality is awful in longevity. I purchased the YC onion pinta monopod back in May 2023, and it he latchet system does not work anymore. YC onion will validate the warranty because it was purchased through their official amazon store and not the website. When I was looking for a tripod I considered this brand, but it's quality control and customer support it awful and decided to invest into Sachthler even being almost 4x the price it's reputable company.
Oh Great! Just watched your video about fluid-head setups and REALLY liked the E-Image GH06 with the 2-stage tripod combo (currently +/- $800 USD) and then saw this little gem. Dang it Gerald! Now I'm perplexed! The GH06 head with the YC Onion is gonna set me back about $1,100 but I do like the lighter weight of the YC Onion. What to do, what to do.......?.?.?
When you're sitting, your movements seem restricted, but I prefer it when you're in a standing position; it looks more fluid when you’re demonstrating.
Outstanding! The manufacturers are in your debt. I will purchase! Awesome presentation. Nice visual framing. Brilliant really. Name the dude on the chair: Bear❤
Perfect timing! I'm in the market for my first professional level tripod, and was eyeing off the Sachtler Flowtech. It's awesome that there are some new options coming out that are emulating the Sachtler, with the single release mechanism at the top of the legs, without the hefty price tag. I'm happy to pay for quality features, especially if the build quality suggests a long life, but it's hard to justify spending over $6,000 Australian dollars! I've recently discovered the SmallRig AD-100 FreeBlazer with 4167 legs, and also the Sirui SVT75 legs with the SVH15 fluid head. Perhaps you could do a comparison between these three models Gerald; this one and the two mentioned above, and weigh up their features, build quality and value for money? Love your channel mate! 🦘🇦🇺
Also in the market. There have been anecdotal reports, unfortunately, that the SmallRig legs are less than trustworthy; sometimes they allegedly don’t lock. Totally agree that a comparison video would be excellent!
@@MayerAd It's an exciting time to be shopping for a tripod hey! I'm not surprised to hear about the SmallRig, as it looks a bit flimsy with the plastic locking mechanism. The Sirui on the other hand looks tough, and is apparently a bit of an effort to push the locking mechanism closed. At least that bodes well for longevity, as you would have to expect it would get easier with use. The 6 year warranty is also rather confidence boosting.
@@brucebrucestofiston5554 thanks for the tip. I wasn’t aware there was an Aussie brand that’s got such a good reputation for quality tripods, like Røde has for audio gear. Miller’s new range of CiNX fluid heads could be a good option to pair with this YC Onion Pineta Peak tripod. The CinX 20 and 23 are both fitted with a 75mm clawball, along with an adjustable pan and tilt fluid drag system and counterbalance, so they would go well with a 75mm bowl like the one on this YC Onion tripod. As Gerald points out in the video, the Onion head lacks these features. Thanks mate! Update: I just looked up the history of Miller, and the company's founder “holds the first patent for fluid head design for film cameras, which it obtained in 1946.” Gotta love a pioneering Aussie!
I just got the E-Image EG06C2 kit consisting of the GH06 fluid head which Gerald reviewed previously and the GC752 carbon legs which he also suggested. This kit cost me $1095 plus $30 shipping here in Australia and I have to say for what you get is incredible value. I watched a review of the Flowtech 75 plus Aktiv 6 head and could barely see any benefit over my new system except perhaps Sachtler bragging rights - though is it really bragging to say “Hey I paid 6x for the same as you!” One of my uses is super zoom photography - and occasional video - at up to 2000mm. I am super impressed that I can get smooth panning on my new kit at that 2000mm focal length. To say I love this kit is an understatement. I could have bought the $6000 FT kit - and briefly considered it - though in hindsight that now seems like a moment of mild madness. The GH06 head is everything Gerald said and then some. If you have around an Aussie Kay to spend the E-Image kit is a no-brainer. No I do not have any affiliation whatsoever with the product or company. I’m just a regular feller who loves a great buy.

Hey Ben I'm curious about the same thing. At this point, would you go for the YC Onion or Sirui SVT75?
very cozy studio! The fire in the background makes a lot too
BEARly Undone 😊
This tripod is no longer available? Any ideas what happened?
Heya, thanks for the review. I’m wondering how this tripod performs compared to the Sirui Rapid Tripod? It looks like an “identical” system minus the “coconut head” but with the option for a middle spreader
What do you think about the Sirui SVT75? Was eyeing it but I see there are also other budget options for this style of tripods.
I use long a table pad from Target or a raised floor mat from Home Depot to protect my table from getting scratch.
Can you adjust levels with central shaft in place like with bowl head? Or it has to be done with legs? Thanks.
Can it hold an Edelkrone slider? The large one?
I tested this tripod during IBC and I consider it phenomenal for the price! Great review mate!
Call the bear Bruno please!
good name but we don't talk about him
You would think now that we have a few manufacturers creating single leg latch tripods, there's gotta be a single latch rapid mono out there. Man I would love that for wedding work!!!
Have one FlowTech, Also don't want to shell out for another two... thanks for the update, you might have just helped me decide my next tripod.
Would be great to see a comparison between this tripod and Ifootafe ones?
How is it compare to the new sirui tripod?
Is there a code to get it to the $500 price mentioned at the beginning. Went to purchase and it is $699 USD. 40% more. Looks good though.
Would be nice if it used a spreader
man this is a sick tripod. does the "bowl" part come with the tripod? I definitely need the heavier 35 kilos payload
What’s your thoughts on this versus the Sirui?
Delighted to see good tripods coming out with those features. Would be even more delighted if I hadn't bought a Sachtler FT75 a few weeks ago.
At least you know you are not beta testing these tripods like everyone else will be..the satchler you are sure it will hold for 10yrs plus but these ones, we will have to see if they even exist on 2 years😅😅
@@ludovicavice3496 Fair point. I feel better now.
Bit off topic... Why is the purple wall so noisy?
Just to let you know , the tripod's links are either broken or don't work in my country.
I love your new studio set!
In and out baby, oh yeah! just needed a little 60's funk in that section.
"the Dam Bear" is a pretty good name...
I'm almost certain that tripod head is OEM'd by Smallrig. Nearly Identical to the Freeblazer head.
WTF!
You don't ask people what the bear should be named! You ask the bear what his name is.
You can call it “The Damned Bear” 😂
I highly discourage you to invest into this brand. The quality is awful in longevity. I purchased the YC onion pinta monopod back in May 2023, and it he latchet system does not work anymore. YC onion will validate the warranty because it was purchased through their official amazon store and not the website. When I was looking for a tripod I considered this brand, but it's quality control and customer support it awful and decided to invest into Sachthler even being almost 4x the price it's reputable company.
What about compare to sirui one?
any chance you’re going to review GFX 100 II? would be great!
comparison to the sirui one?
Bear-ald Undone, the only real choice for his name.
I got play with these at NAB. I forgot all about them. Can't wait to get one.
Welcome back Big BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
How does it compare to the Ifootage tripods with the Komodo head?
I miss the work bench setup in the back
i want a 100mm version, shut up and take my money.
When you're sitting, your movements seem restricted, but I prefer it when you're in a standing position; it looks more fluid when you’re demonstrating.
Outstanding! The manufacturers are in your debt. I will purchase!
Awesome presentation. Nice visual framing. Brilliant really.

You should look up miller. Australian made world leader.
I watched a review of the Flowtech 75 plus Aktiv 6 head and could barely see any benefit over my new system except perhaps Sachtler bragging rights - though is it really bragging to say “Hey I paid 6x for the same as you!”
One of my uses is super zoom photography - and occasional video - at up to 2000mm.
