@@slickwillybudgetking It's the exponential on the resistance as the knob turns. Linear has no taper, so 50% on the knob is 50% of the signal getting though. 50% of the knob on audio taper is only letting about 10% of the signal through, 75% on the knob is letting about 60% of the signal through and 90% on the knob is about 95% of ths signal allowed to pass. It seems like it's smoother because of the way we perceive volume (the whole 3db is perceived twice as loud thing). C taper is the exact opposite of that
50k is most common, as it cuts out the signal so you can remove bass altogether. Also, w/ 3 tabs is best for mono. Any stereo pot you get is different value per channel, very minor but definitely not matched from one extreme to the next. Yes, you can combine them at least when its a sub output, rear output should be fine but would be cautious depending on which headunit you have. Ive made tons of them. You will have mono in and mono out, perfectly matched because its the same signal.
Also, for guys competing in spl competitions that have no power limit, most experienced competitors will know but most pot's do not zero out. By that i mean when turned up/least resistance, you will find they will still show resistance, from a couple ohms up to 20+ ohms for some ive tested.
yo man !! i want to make my own bass knob ! ( for subwoofer amp only and also i will use it via Rca on preamp from unit to amp) should i go linear? or log? also what resistor? 10k? 50k? 100k? thanks in advance man.
@@dickersonaudiodesigns 1st of all whats the main difference between 10k and 50k ? And on forums they said log is much smoother (the transition on ears 😂)
@MrCryptonxxx difference in resistance and where cut off lies. A 10k will work but even all the way down you will have output, 50k is enough resistance to give complete cutoff, deoends on what you want really.
Do you sell the new part for better adjustment? Just got my stinger 700 amp and read that’s the only flaw. Haven’t installed it yet tho. I’m also not great with soldering lol
You are a king. Thank you for the help with this recently. I will be updating my post on facebook once I'm done!
C taper is the exact opposite curve of audio taper. Love your group and content!!
So peak center and resist L or R?

Odd. Seemed like in actual use, only 40% of the adjustment was effective on the linear, 90% on audio.
@@slickwillybudgetking Test them with a DMM, but you can probably find graphs of the curves on google too.

@MrCryptonxxx most sub outs on headunit are mono, i would use 50k with 3 prongs, it will be linear in and out

I can't remember if I bought that part at digikey or Mouser. I thought I said so in one of the two videos
@@slickwillybudgetking yeah I think I looked it up couple weeks ago and the shipping was way more then the part to me.
It was same here 😥 I'm sure you can use a cheaper delivered potentiometer, I just don't know what wire does what from original.
