Jon thank you for providing this service to the community of hikers along the Fuller Ridge, Apache Peak, Mount San Jacinto your determination to get this information to everyone is a valuable safety communication resource ❤ - rebo PCT 2023
Safe through hike Jon. Thank you for showing snow year 2023 with (rightly so crampons) tough conditions. You haven’t even gotten to the Southern Sierras with over 300% snow pack, It’ may be a record year of avalanches. Advanced skills with rapid snow melt at higher elevations on the PCT will be needed.
The San Jacinto Trail Report (sanjacjon.com) is updated at least weekly, with new info added almost daily. With the nobo PCT season winding down and most of the snow gone, I have no plans for another video report soon. Safe hiking, Jon.
With the confusion on social media you mention how hikers going up and over San Jacinto cannot avoid Fuller Ridge - I have been hiking NOBO on the PCT and have met a lot of hikers who started NOBO through March, skipped up to Acton and hiked SOBO back towards San Jacinto and were talking about ascending to Fuller Ridge Campground, descending Black Mtn road if the snow was still high, and doing San Jacinto peak (up and down) at a later date. Doing it that SOBO and Black Mtn bypass they could avoid Fuller Ridge. Its a very unusual year with people flipping to various places and NOBOs temporarily becoming SOBOs etc… so not sure if some of their online conversations may have added to any confusion. I chose NOBO, and went around the peak on the full PCT and glad I had full snow gear on Fuller Ridge, and appreciate all your updates. Many thanks.
Unlikely. In practice it is possible to do the whole San Jacinto mountains section now without spikes (I carried them but did not use them for my recent videos, although I was in boots with excellent grip). Melting is fast at present, with hot weather for the next week, so conditions are getting less complicated by the day. Safe hiking, Jon.
I hiked Humber Park to San Jacinto summit yesterday - the snow is deep from Shoulder Junction all the way to the summit. The snow is deep from the Tram to Wellman's Divide and all the way up to the summit. There are good boot tracks in many areas, but it is VERY easy to lose the tracks, make sure you have a GPS device to help refind the trail (it will happen).
You are a treasure ... thanks so much.
Thank you for doing these reports you’ve helped so many people

So much snow! Never seen anything like this!
If there is no more snow fall, if you had to guess would one need micro spikes to go through around 1st June?

What are your thoughts on the conditions from the tram to the PCT?

Are the ferns fully out in Round Valley yet? It's such a beautiful hike when they are, and the Creeks are flowing.
