I loved the ending, just the lift I needed in a world where the need for warmth and the community of human beings is the only thing that gives life meaning. I was glad he showed his sweet grandson the beauty available in this life.
What a superb drama! Brilliantly written and wonderfully acted, examining the emptiness of middle-class social climbers along with a great range of emotions. Thanks for the upload.
Wonderful story! It's a shame how a parent gets tossed about by children, trying to find where one belongs in the late years of one's life. Being bossed around like a child and disrespected.
A wonderful sweet play about working class upmanship and snobbery when people are not proud of their roots because of the behaviour of others around them along with the equal point of "what do we doing with peeing grandad" syndrome and pushing elderly relatives away into care... Set in the South Wales Valleys its equally home in Yorkshire's Barnsley... or Northumberland's Blyth... Thanks for uploading
The CNT (Confederación Nacional del Trabajo - National Confederation of Labour) were a confederation of anarcho-syndicalist labour unions and had nothing to do with communism and in fact felt out with the Stalinists in 1937. Apart from this inaccuracy the programme was very good and pleased it had an upbeat ending!
The old Man (daddy) knew the tune played on the radio *Mahler sympathy* (And *Not Dmitri Shostakovich* as arrogantly pointed out by the haughty son) The _homeless teacher_ reminded me of boxer _tyson Fury_ Good drama Thank you very much for sharing.
An ongoing problem - what to do with a stray, surviving parent when their spouse is gone and worry about them living on their own? I'm 85 and recently find myself in this position, with 3 grown children sharing resposibility for my financial care - not easily done! Luckily, can live on my own with some outside care to help out. Others, not so fortunate.
It is really nice watching this and then comparing Eastern and Western values. I think in the East/ Asia, the grandparents or parents are treated with far more respect by the family.
35:58 Christmas in Marseille 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm loving this! The only thing missing is the good judge having a bit of totty on the side🤞🏻 part 3 has only started
The sound is muffled as it's an old recording so the accents are harder to understand even when you speak english. But there are subtitles if you press the link in the usual place.
Dicken Ashworth. He appeared on Brookside, Coronation Street and Emmerdale as well as several other well known TV series. He had a wonderful career in front of the camera.
could someone please explain why everyone was so tense and embaressed when elizabeth came home and his friend was there. what was the problem? the subtlety and subtext was over my head I'm afraid.
Elizabeth had left an elderly man standing out in the cold while she ran an errand, rather than invite him in and wait until Edgar returned. She knew that was unreasonable, and likely hoped the pair wouldn’t be there when she returned. Plus, she probably wasn’t keen on Edgar having friends round at all.
I too get fed up with the socialist bullshit flag waving in these plays...labour are now showing their true socialist values by taking money of the pensioners.
Glyn Houston was a fine Actor. He lived to see 93.
I loved the ending, just the lift I needed in a world where the need for warmth and the community of human beings is the only thing that gives life meaning. I was glad he showed his sweet grandson the beauty available in this life.
A great summary😊
This was a brilliant drama film. I was delighted the grandad stood up for himself in the end. His son and daughter in law were narcissists.

So nice a true story, I'm so glad I let my grandmother have all her dignity and everything she ever wanted!!!
Back when people could act. Thanks for the upload!
That really was rather good, thank you. The world needs more grandfathers like this ❤️
Wonderful story! It's a shame how a parent gets tossed about by children, trying to find where one belongs in the late years of one's life. Being bossed around like a child and disrespected.

Was it ever a mini serie on tv ? ..
Thank you for Sharing Classic British Telly 💗
i truly Enjoyed it
Without subtitles, is very hard to understand, as my mother language is not the english
That’s a valid point.

@@franceslynch8815As an American, most Brit accents are not easily understood, but CC help!! Use them so you don't miss a bit.
I understand the worn out noisy camshaft on that Pinto engined Ford Cortina from 1979!
You will get there.
Whats the name of the actor who plays his new m8?....i think he was in Brookside years ago

@@kh7094 cheers thanks , he definitely wasn't listed on the IMDB website....was an interesting period piece though, I enjoyed it 🙂🙂

@@nkt1 ahh I see, thankyou for elucidating.
She's a snob, to put it mildly 😂
Was this on itv as i dont remember it being on bbc then too.
The credits mention HTV, which was an ITV franchisee.
@nkt1 indeed so too.
Yes of course was it htv cymru Wales as this is Welsh too I wonder. If not it would have been htv west I guess so too there.
@@nkt1 as they were too then.
As of course then they served both areas as well too.
