THESE Are My Limits on Gold and Silver Premiums!

  • These are my limits on gold and silver premiums. I'll share with you the line I’ve drawn with my gold and silver stacking, right now! I buy my gold and silver from several sources both online and in person. My local coin shop dealer, Tim, gets some of my business and I buy gold and silver via private sales too. And SD Bullion has been a fast, reliable, and aggressively priced way to feed my gold and silver stacking needs. In this video I talk about premiums on the spot price of silver and gold for the three stacking areas I’m currently focused on: 90% silver (or constitutional silver/junk silver), silver rounds and bars, and gold! I just finished off my silver quarter guardhouse box and I get a lot of questions about how much to spend in terms of face value on junk silver. A good chunk of these 90% silver quarters were purchased at around $17 face value. That's a 28% mark up or silver premium. And what about the silver rounds and bars I just purchased? I haven’t been stacking the American silver eagle or even the Canadian maple leaf very hard this year. Those premiums are crazy high! I can’t even finish off the last tube of my mini monster box of silver Britannias. So what's my premium limit on silver rounds now? Finally I talk about gold and my premium limit for a 1-ounce gold round or coin. I usually go for gold coins like the American gold eagle, the eagle buffalo or the Canadian maple leaf, but I bought a South African minted gold coin for a GREAT low premium!

    HI Yankees I want to thank you for your videos. I've just recently got interested in stacking and you're videos have helped me alot. I bought my first silver ever today from a local coin shop I heard about on Facebook. I really wanted some US constitution silver or silver Eagles but he didn't have any. All he had was was canadian quarters and collectable silver so I got a troy ounce worth of Canadian quarters. Probably not the best buy for a first buy but I was so excited I found a silver shop not that far away I had to buy some.

    Spot plus the premium times .715 will give you the "factor" for how much to pay or take when selling. Currently I have a wholeseller I sell to who is paying spot plus $6.50 for dimes and quarters and spot plus $9.50 times .715 for halves. Silver spot should be more representative of the market and it isn't. That is why we have premiums. I've been collecting since age 12 and have conducted large hotel buys since 2003. Almost 20 years now. As such I can buy well below market and sell wholesale with these premiums all day long. If I was just buying to hold I do see SD as having some good deals. Might be a good place to buy. I do have a few customers from when I owned a 4,200 square foot coin shop and I will retail some and of course retail all numismatic stuff. Take care!

    It's really harsh right now. The premiums on Gold Buffaloes and Eagles are really up. Premiums on silver are even higher than they were, heck ASEs are now more than 100% premium at some online stores! I think some of this will improve in a few months when the 2023 coins start being released but until them I'll be looking for lower premium stuff to stack. I think your percentages are reasonable. Yankee Stacking the premiums are justified in my opinion on the ASE'S because of the cost in doing business and the U.S. mint have not produced that much so if you take those two situations it is not that bad as you tell your viewers. Premium limits are a facet of applying good business sense to a stacking hobby. I like that... a lot.
    Good Choice on the amounts too. Not too low so as to prevent buying some good deals and not
    so high that one might not ever recover the premium via higher silver prices. While we all have a
    plan of some sort as to what would make us want to sell some of our silver or gold stacks, there
    are times when we are overtaken by events and MUST sell, whether or not we really want to do
    that. Emergencies can come up and when, not if, they do it may be that the application of some
    cash will resolve them in one's favor. I see my stack as being part of my emergency fund. I'd
    FAR rather use cash, if I can, than metals but metals are a viable option if the need is great.
    My recent gold buy was from SDB and the premium on the 1-oz. Britannias was 4.4% or a shade
    under that. I thought that was pretty good, especially in the weird high-premium era we have now.

    3 to 4% premium is acceptable. It’s the state excise tax that kills retailers while buying from online dealer. My state is 5%. So a 5% tax takes the price of a gold coin up another $80 or $90.

    Thanks for the video. I have been eying bars to save on premiums. Got a 500g this month, right before they sold out. I shoot for lower premiums but also look at any silver at under $25 an ounce as a good price, regardless if more of it is premium.

    Good info, Yankee. I would buy 90% silver at $21, because I don't believe the spot price reflects the true value of the metal. We all know spot prices for gold and silver are manipulated. 90% silver is worth more than $21 or will be eventually. Same with gold. Spot price means nothing to me.

  • @neildutson1098
    @neildutson1098 ปีที่แล้ว

    Premium is determined by supply and demand. If there is a shortage of a particular product, the premium on that item will be high. It seems like PM's are becoming more and more popular and therefore, my guess is that we'll see much higher premiums in the future. Additionally, we should remember that the spot price is the paper price. Paper and physical are two different things.

    I believe that the higher premiums more accurately reflect the suppression of the market price. A fed pivot would result in a spot price that would make a 20% premium on silver, or gold, look like nothing. It appears that fiat currency is coming to an end and there is no limit to where gods money can go. I’m just sticking to the plan no matter the markup. It’s only paper anyway…

    Hey yankee! Great video. You should also do a video on gsr with premiums included into the gsr. That way ppl can really know what the current ratio Actually is. I don't think many ppl take that into consideration. That's why I've been buying gold (and a little platinum) for a little while now. Even the premium on golden eagles make for a better buy then generic rounds with the current premiums. Hopefully that made some sense lol. Hope you're well.

    Wow you are setting high upper limits for premiums, Silver been buying Buffalo Generic rounds for 11.2%, Gold Asahi 1 oz bars first 2 orders were over 4% but less than 5% last 2 orders were sub 3%. Now I need to learn how to buy the dips. Been stacking less than 3 months. From SD Bullion I got a 1 oz uncarded Britannia bar for 10 over spot, but had their CC surcharge, came out to about 5%. For those with great FICO scores I highly recommend APMEX Bullion Card 4% cashback towards future purchases and 150 welcome bonus, puts you well under SPOT if you buy just one bar. They also offer 0% APR for 12 months to some folks, if you are disciplined with your money, inflation is eating them not you.

    Great info! I've never heard premiums laid out like that. I've bought hundreds in FV mostly halves and several state quarter rolls between 17 and 20x. 20x shipped is my cutoff. The last buy was the best, 56fv at 16x!!! Almost all halves, even a bunch of barbers, bit was rougher condition. I appreciate knowing how to target gold. I've never bought any but contemplating buying my first 1 oz.

    • @edb3877
      @edb3877 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quite a few silver stackers eventually turn to gold, often when they have completed their ounces stacking goal. But it sure is hard
      to justify buying any silver these days when premiums are so high and gold premiums on a percentage basis are so much lower.
      I'm just so glad that I stacked silver heavily in the 2014-2019 time frame and don't have to participate in this premium circus. Still
      buying some gold, though. I have an ounce goal there too and *might* be able to reach it sometime in 2023, if a SHTF scenario
      doesn't happen between now and then. But whatever happens, having the amount that I now do should be of considerable help
      in continuing to live a decent, if not luxurious, lifestyle.

    Good vid Yankee!!!$$ Your limits sounded reasonable to me but I would have liked to hear what your limits are on Morgans. I found a somewhat local coin shop with good prices. He had some Morgans at his shop starting at $25.00 face he had others that were higher. I purchased 40 of the Morgans and I have to say they are in pretty decent condition. As much as I like SD Bullion and a few other online dealers I have to say that anymore I'm more than a bit reluctant to purchase online. It may sound silly to some folks but I don't like the idea that certain people can know what I'm buying. Just wait for the CBDC, then there will be no avoiding it. Stay well Yankee!!

    • @edb3877
      @edb3877 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good deal on those Morgans, Joe. They are a really great coin to collect, IMO. I have over 100 Morgans in my collection and
      400 Kennedy's. These are my favorite 90% silver coins. Also have quarters and dimes. All of these would be used in a barter
      situation during hard times, if necessary. I am assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that this will work during hard times but don't
      really see any good alternatives, especially if inflation is high and / or there is any kind of currency crisis as part of those times.
      As to the CBDC, we need to actively petition our congress-critters and voice our opposition to any such liberty-killing monetary
      policy. Tyrants the world over and throughout history could only dream of the kind of power and control this will confer on
      those who are running the currency scheme. It. Must. Not. Be. Allowed.
