  • Making an Organic Pool with clay instead of a plastic liner. Eleonora and her husband had a farmhouse pond in need of restoration and as part of the work, they incorporated my bubble pump (airlift) circulation system to provide the filtration in this clay-lined pool.

    This is exactly what I’d like to do with my farm pond. We have very clay soil and an unsightly pond dominated by bull frogs and duck weed.

    I live in Florida USA and my husband and I would love to build a natural pool. What is upkeep like? Everyone down here who puts in a conventional pool says it’s not worth all the cost and upkeep. A conventional pool is way out of our budget and I (and incidentally, my children) have sensitive skin so a chlorine bath everyday is not even an option. Still nervous that we’ll build it and then have to drag a gator out of it every time we want to swim, but that’s purely a Florida problem 😅

    • @flatsville1
      @flatsville1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in the US, but not in FLA. I know to expect snakes, snapping trutles etc...in any "natural" pond or lake...purposefully built or nature made. I would draw the line as alligators. Snapping turtles have gone after children.

    • @flatsville1

      @smart viewer I think any liner regardles of color would turn mud colored with silt eventually. I've been in some beatiful Ozark creeks & rivers...but much deeper than 3 ft + you can't really see the bottom much or well at all.
      Snappers might visit a no/low fish population pond to eat frogs. I've seen them go overland to travel betwwen ponds.

    • @emilyacevedo4746
      @emilyacevedo4746 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not a huge issue until mating season. The rule here in FL is that if there is water, even a puddle in the road, there has been or will be a gator in it. Though gators aren’t terrible unless some idiot is feeding them and that’s when they get aggressive. Water moccasins are probably a bigger issue. I don’t think we know until we try which is a little disconcerting 😅.

    While you were ignoring her (that was funny) she said something very interesting. The OLIVE does not have an electrical device in the pool with you. I have a koi pond that I get in to clean out about once a year. I have to disconnect the pumps when I do it because I am not 100% sure I won't get an electrical shock. Now that I am thinking of a bigger pond to swim in, this is an important consideration. Of course there are pumps that are not submerged, but I might not have thought of that until later. Are you now selling the OLIVE in the USA and/or Mexico? Thanks for the great videos.

    I built a very similar pool in my garden digging in blue clay.
    It isn't overly successful a year later as the water finds its way out the pool and it constantly needs topping up from a nearby stream using a pump, alough my plants have established very well they currently don't take enough nutrients out of the water as it isn't the same body of water due to it having to be filled up.
    I can't imagine this pool holds water any better than my pool ??

    Probably a stupid question, but is concrete not an option to use instead of a liner? Is it just a cost consideration? What if one is in a country where that liner material can't be found and every male over the age of 18 is an expert with concrete? Would concrete be a good idea then?

    • @francus7227
      @francus7227 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Here's the answer....
      Concrete can be used. But.... You must use an additive or coating because concrete is slightly porous.
      And.... if it cracks? You're really in a bind. How do you find the crack? Drain the water, remove 2 dump trucks of rocks and plants???
      I made a small pond.. 1m × 2.5 m × 4 m.... It was a good learning experience. Early next year.... I'm going to construct a full size pond. After learning from my baby pond....
      I'm planning to dig a hole. Put a liner and then concrete on top. No worries about porous concrete or cracking. It will require great attention to avoid puncturing the liner during construction. But... once built, the liner will be protected by concrete from animals or accidents.

      The only snakes in the UK that will go in water are grass snakes and they are non-venomous and quite rare. They eat frogs so might be attracted to a pond.

    not gaining yt cred off the comedy gold of moaning about women who never stop talking cliche I hope? considering it is her pool and all..and u were interviewing her...and most other appearances of women in your vids seem to be humorously veiled jabs at or objectification of women...and not men?
