Sorry but something seems terribly wrong Hyundais design philosophy which seems to have regressed by a few decades with 2024 santa fe..the car looks hideous and much a like boxy american station wagon from the 80s with straight lines and flat rear..
I fancied the Sorento, but when I saw the Santa Fe at the release event I realised this is the car I want. As soon as pre-orders open I'll be ordering one.
It would be refreshing if people would get off the "me too" band wagon. There is nothing that wrong with the rear design, it is functional and well thought-out. Because one reviewer back when said they didn't like the rear design, which by the way, is very similar to other SUVs on the road today like Ford's, and Range Rover, and large GM SUVs. Time to hop off the band wagon. The whole vehicle is different than the last generation, and EVERY new feature is cutting edge and works well together.
@@jameslester4474the whole car looks horrible. It looks like a box on wheels. And those rear tailights!!! Yes it’s super functional, but they’ve crossed a line. I would rather drive something that loses a little bit functionality, but looks a thousand times better on the road. Kia seems to be balancing form/function a little better.
Hyundai said they designed the Santa Fe from back to front instead of front to back. They prioritized function over form, so they put the taillights into the bumper to maximize the size of the hatch door. That also means they don't have to add a second pair of taillights behind the door to meet USA regulations (brake lights cannot be on a moving body panel).
Lots of cars have big boot openings without this sort of taillights. Honda manage that with their CRV by putting it running down on the sides of the car.
Interesting...but he taillights are on the liftgate and not on the bumper. At 3:31, says "the indicators and reversing lights" are in the bumper which means the brake lights are in the liftgate. Can you elaborate as my understanding is that brake lights could not be on moving body panels..
And your information is incorrect. You clearly see the brake lights are in the moving body panel when the lift is open. Yes there may be additional lights in the bumper, but the main brake light is in the hatch, set low.
This is nice but nothing truly groundbreaking. The design says Range Rover and Ford Flex. The interior is nice but nothing that hasn’t been done already. Mercedes started the full-width front display. Range Rover and Mercedes and Audi have done the minimalist, stylistic design approach. The UV light in the glove box seems like a nice touch but was already introduced by Fiat in 2022 and Dodge in 2023. This will appeal to a lot of families but it’s not such an original idea that many folks are making it out to be.
How the rear lights indicators pass road standards I'll never understand. Plus watch insurance premiums go up on this car being rear ended all the time. If this car services two years they be changing the rear lights and indicator if they want it to survive. I'll never buy a car with them so low as this.
I do not have an issue with the placement of the rear tail lights. The Mercedes G Wagon has always had super low tail lights and no one ever complained about them.
I dislike when they put indicators so low, you can't see them when the car in front of you easily blocks them, I like the exterior / interior design but the rear tail lights really need to be higher they look like a kid with his pants hanging around their knees, they look awful, engine is too small for such a large vehicle, load it up with a few kids and their stuff, I wouldn't like to tow anything, I don't think they understand the Australian market and the long distances we travel when going on holiday.
It's not a problem unless you're right up on them at a stoplights. I've tested it out by seeing how close I can get to SUVs before I cannot see their lower bumper.
Like the ionic 5 and ev 6 this will be another fizzer. The engine is not powerful enough it's made like a thin can. To expensive . Those back lights dangerously to low. 6.5 litres 100klm wouldn't be full load and not using hills.
Hyundai, if you're listening , keep the diesel.....or risk taking the Santa Fe down the Patrol Y62 avenue, a great Nissan product whose sales have been hampered by that "woke" philosophy"
I bought my 2020 Santa Fe as diesel and bought the towing kit with modified suspension so it can can hold 200kg ball wreight. 430Nm (from memory) of torque also a very nice to have. Wouldn't conmsider anything less when looking for a replacement.
Yes I've the very same 2020 santa fe diesel 2.2 absolute power house I now will have to leave the hyundai range asvid not buy a hybrid there pure muck and they will drink petrol absolutely fuming as I love the hyundai build quality
Thank god for the Koreans! Prepared to take risks with their cars. I think it looks great...and everytime you open the huge rear door you think it looks even greater!!
Personally, I love the design INCLUDING the rear! To me the low rear looks quite retro, like a 1970s American or Japanese 4x4. This car looks like nothing else on the road, which can only be a good thing. Well done Hyundai!
I've seen a lot of Santa Fe videos since the launch of the new model overseas in August. We were going to wait for it, but over time, it became apparent that the new model wasn't going to have the diesel option. This was confirmed by a dealer we visited 4 weeks ago. So we bought the Palisade Highlander instead to suit our purposes. Another unanswered question I had is whether Australian version would have a full size spare wheel. Korean vehicles only have a tyre inflation kit. Anyway we believe we got a good deal on a run out Highlander, saving a lot over the newer Calligraphy, which to us wasn't worth the extra thousands.
On my third Santa Fe and 400,000km. This tiny 1.6 hybrid is a fail. Uses more fuel than the diesel, has less torque, is slower and weighs more. Add passengers and it will be woefully inadequate. 70 percent buy the diesel because it's the best engine for this size and type of car. Who cares what is in favour, the people want a diesel, the politicians and their puppet media want electric or us to have no cars at all. Hyundai have dropped the ball on this one if they don't offer the diesel for Australia. I certainly won't be buying one and I bet a lot of other repeat buyers won't either.
Two thoughts. 1. Hyundai likes to change their designs often. So be it. Problem is the last iteration of the Sante Fe is one of the best looking SUV's out there. This is just a box (yes probably a nice one to drive) that reminds me of the first iteration of the first Chyrsler Mini Vans of 1984. 2. The expansive lines and sheet metal on this tells me there was a bit of lazyness in it's design. This may turn out to be a very nice vehicle. Too bad they had to put a Sante Fe logo onto it to find out. What if it isn't? If that happens Hyundai, good luck recovering! Go Ni
IMO, the Santa Fe was definitely ready for a refresh. My GF owns a 2021 and the design is nice, but it’s rather stale and boring. Americans are going to flip out when this hits the car lots and they catch a glimpse of people driving this on the road.
I have to admit it looks nice.....BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT......Hyundai and Kia are notorious for having engine and transmission problems with their Dual clutch ATF leaving owners stranded......No thanks.....Look at the Palisaide and Telluride with excessive oil consumption and auto make is doing nothing to help consumers......not to mention Kia got caught holding inventory and not delivering to customers.
Stop saying diesel is so POPULAR in Australia, if manufacturers don’t offer anything else rather than awful underpowered diesels then buyers have no other choice
Rear indicators not well designed. Looked horrible and it is very very low. Otherwise everything else is perfect. But again the rear lights is ugly+++++
From a design perspective this is the equivalent a a fresh pile of dung. Starting at $60,000? Ha , ha , ha I wanna see the fools that shell out over $60 k for this piece of #*@!. The old model was good , another case of “ if it ain’t broke , don’t fix it “ .They could have just tweaked the design , upgraded the interior and maybe offered another 1-2 engine options . Simples.
The ugliest design I have ever seen since the Ssangyong Stavic, 3rd and 4th generation are the most impressive models of Santa Fe, 5th generation will be it's ugliest model. Ugly enough to turn me into a Mazda CX90 convert?
You are right it is like nothing I've ever seen on the road they are pure ugly. Hyundai can keep them. Looks like a vehicle if you're old you will like it. Looks like an old squared box that was made in the early 2000 looks like a old Chevy suv
I came to take a peek at this after hearing it was a boxy version of the Ford Flex. I love my Flex, so I hope this kicks Ford into releasing the Flex again. This is just not my style.
It is far from clean design as all Hyundai and Kia as of late , flashy shiny tries to cover up cheap and cheesy just like all Hyundai and Kia . Make it reliable , come up with clean timeless design that will last and you will not hit current owners with redesign every 2 yrs as it hits owners on the pocket with even worse resale value that is already weak with Koreans .
A grave mistake committed by Hyundai with this ugly design that is not in line with modern designs. Hyundai must remedy the situation and completely redesign the Santa Fe.
Your channel is one of best car review channels on TH-cam. I just started watching you few months ago but the content are really good. Keep up the good work
I don't mind the rear design aesthetically, but I wonder about practicality and safety with the turning indicators and brake lights being so low. More of a chance they'll be covered by dirt or snow, and with the size of vehicles these days, if you're in a full size truck right behind one of these you actually might not able to see them if you're in bumper to bumper traffic. Very curious choice.
Not a big issue; the Hyundai Tucson’s indicators are also in the same position and I’m almost 2 years in with the car but I do agree they are too low but no issues so far
You've gotta hand it to Hyundai. They've stepped up their game big time in recent years. Do I love this? Not really, there's elements that I do, but you can't deny their creative innovation. The design of the rear is probably what ruins it for me but no doubt they'll sell well in Aus.
Agreed. I think it takes a fair degree of confidence to produce such a polarising design. The fact that people are debating the design of a Santa Fe shows just how far Hyundai have come.
I honestly don't like where Hyundai is going with their design its way too funky for me I would like the previous generation this one seem like a mix between a panel van and an SUV
Okay.... Where did you get an April release date? Hyundai isn't publishing any dates, even when asked . Also where did you come up with 60k driveway price? Again Hyundai hasn't released any pricing at all on the hybrid, and I've asked! Your 60k price is far and above the 45k that the Santa Fe hybrid has been, so your video without source or reason leads me to believe you know nothing, and are a very poor reviewer.
I dont like it at all on the exterior, interior looks ok, but outside its just so boxy, the rear end looks like it was an after thought. You can tell styling has been taken from the landrover defender, just look at tgr placement of the climate controls, same design and locations as the defender.
Hi. Great video! when using the power outlets on the Hybrid hyundai santa fe, does it use the battery or gas? For example it would be great if we could use the full battery for camping sites.

The rear would be better resolved cheaply if they just made the light graphic more substantial instead of the skimpy H pattern. It is challenging overall but we need that in a vanilla market space.
Can anyone help me when will the model come in EU? And what is the price of the car? As I have checked the current Santa FE prices, they have been around 65k euros, which is nowhere close 35k $ which is mentioned in the couple of websites / youtube videos for the 2024 model...
interested in this as well - I've seen 45k for the upper trims online (usd). I assume he is not quoting the price in USD, even the palisade isn't close to his quoted prices. I was planning on buying the 2024 tuscon later this week until I saw this redisgned and now I'm quite interested in the redsigned santa fe

Hopefully it handles better than the prior generation. I had that one for a week. It was comfy but it was like driving a couch! 0 handling
Australia is not the only market that likes diesel South Africa is the same.
Best large SUV on the market, rather unique and distinctive, love it. Hyundai rocks. Hope for diesel and nice interior colours.
The rear is simply hideous. Ruins the otherwise great car.
what ughly weels
1980's box is back, not a bad thing 🎉
Front looks decent (if a bit copycatish), side also looks nice, wheels look good, rear looks like a dog's breakfast.
I can't agree on this statement. Dog's breakfast doesn't look as bad as this.
It would be refreshing if people would get off the "me too" band wagon.

You'll buy the Palisade for towing. Santa Fe is a soft roading Kluger rival.
Totally agree about the rear indicators, it’s actually really dangerous and I’m surprised the ADR allows it.
I agree about rear indicators…. Kia’s done it and it annoys me so much when I’m behind one! So dangerous!
It's not a problem unless you're right up on them at a stoplights. I've tested it out by seeing how close I can get to SUVs before I cannot see their lower bumper.

That's one ugly vehicle
Low back lights and indicators are a hazard. Try to drive on the highway next to one, you won't see their signal to change lanes.

any issues with excessive oil consumption on the Palisade?
The backend looks so ugly. I love it !!!
low skinny rear indicators, will catch the cars behind you off guard.
Skinny slim lights trend needs to stop.
I don't want to be hit from behind saying I don't see your tail light.
Tail light should be at proper height.
Hit the rear and most likely a write off

Lexus does the best hybrids.
They can add a larger engine for larger cars, even if hybrid.
Speak for yourself I hate diesel wil never buy one.

Horrid brown, horrid 90’s Sangyong Musso rear, gutless and dangerous low rear lights…..who signed this off??
The blocky rear with the low level indicators looks so much like some sort of dated American mini van.
Family Truckster?
Would not touch Hyundai or Kia (Korean) as they cant make
Engines without major recalls or total engine failure.
The back looks like a Datsun 120Y coupe. Absolutely horrendous in my eyes.
Your channel is one of best car review channels on TH-cam. I just started watching you few months ago but the content are really good. Keep up the good work
Definitely second that!
And wheel designs on korean cars have always been poor. Here's another example of that.
Come on, if you are a professional car reviewer, please learn to say Hyundai properly, "He Yeon Day"!
I look forward to seeing this in the latest National Lampoons Vacation film
Need to be able to tow and drive long distances. Without the diesel this is not of any use to me.
I don't mind the rear design aesthetically, but I wonder about practicality and safety with the turning indicators and brake lights being so low. As a Bona-Fide arse man...well, that derriere aint pretty!!!
I prefer the one we have right now 🤨 2023 🙌🏻
Looks like a kindergartener designed it during nap time...
I honestly don't like where Hyundai is going with their design its way too funky for me I would like the previous generation this one seem like a mix between a panel van and an SUV
The front looks nice. I hate the back.
Excellent review by a great reviewer.
Ban this hybrid and EV junk ffs

Ugly rear lights placement
Tetris inspired headlights..
So you’re saying 6.5 literally to 100km so 36 mpg American seems awfully high for that big of a truck would be a real winter if so
Are they bringing the PHEV version to Australia? Given the Tax benefit of PHEV I'd go the KIA over the hyundai...
Did you say the 2024 Santa Fe will cost about $60,000?!?! That's more than the Palisade. Or a 2024 BMW X3.
I dont like it at all on the exterior, interior looks ok, but outside its just so boxy, the rear end looks like it was an after thought. You can tell styling has been taken from the landrover defender, just look at tgr placement of the climate controls, same design and locations as the defender.
Hyundai's AU Falcon. Expect a series 2 within 12 months to fix the extinction event that is the rear styling.
Are you sure of the towing numbers for the hybrid? 1,650 kg sounds more like the number for the 2.5 litre gas engine.
Diesel best eng aust w tha
That rear end ruins what otherwise is a good looking vehicle. What lunatic alliwed that to progress! Lol
Hyundai / KIA have a good 3.0 diesel turbo engine, but it cannot be used due to new environmental regulations.
As amazing as it is, lets ve honest, it looks like a large Honda Element and a Ford Flex.
Would suggest when talking about a specific part of the car (i.e. ventilation on the pillar) film it...
No diesel no Santa Fe😠
for hybrid and full ev vehicle, why cant they incorporate battery alternator or atleast solar powered charger
kinda reminds me of the Last gen Infiniti Qx4
1.6L Kumho yuck...
Nice interior, horrible engine choice.
Anyone know a good Dr for a Brazilian bum lift … asking for a mate
Hi. Great video! when using the power outlets on the Hybrid hyundai santa fe, does it use the battery or gas? For example it would be great if we could use the full battery for camping sites.
Can I use the heater with the battery? It defeats the purpose of having a battery in colder climates if I can use the battery option without a heater.
Tail lights could be higher
I like the car except no diesel, and rear tailgate design. Also 6 speeds are a bit behind the times.
0.6 Meter too long, back is more like a bus rather than a SUV.
I think the front looks great, but the back i have to see in real life. Anyway, it arrives before my Tucson Hybrid, so i will have time to change my mind.
For a wide looking car the internal front seating looks cramped.
Great showing information ins and out and performance details. I will 🐝 waiting in US of A.
Reminds me a bit - in appearance - of my old Toyota FJ-60.
Looks like peogeot
Saw a video of one driving the road and the rear lights aren’t as bad I thought from photos
Not good at all.
I was thinking the other day the old Ford flex should be raised up 😄
Hate back end
If towing is a priority, Hyundai offers the Palisade 😮
Can't wait to see it in person. We loved our 2003 Santa Fe and our other Hyundai's since then.
I'll buy the front half of the vehicle 🙂
The rear would be better resolved cheaply if they just made the light graphic more substantial instead of the skimpy H pattern. It is challenging overall but we need that in a vanilla market space.
Can anyone help me when will the model come in EU? And what is the price of the car? As I have checked the current Santa FE prices, they have been around 65k euros, which is nowhere close 35k $ which is mentioned in the couple of websites / youtube videos for the 2024 model...

dual clutch? Not sure how reliable
Good reviewer. Might the best one on this channel.
I don’t like the rear is like a container
Nice that Hyundai tucked the rear wiper on top.
Where is a spare tire in Santa Fe 2024 ?
