Trust me you're an international content, nad it's really pleasing to watch the show and it's very informative by the way. Thank you bro for doing this.
When your sons says "I'm an idiot" and your immediate response is "You're not an idiot" and then go on to explain how to proceed properly was a wonderful part of the video.
Hunter, you are not an idiot. You are a bright young man with a great future ahead of you. Please don't call yourself names. It's demeaning and discouraging. Take care young man. You have my support.
Me to my neighbor: "You wouldn't happen to have a spare wrecking ball laying around? ... absolutely ... doesn't everybody?" WOW !!! What a great dozer you'll have for the new property ... can't wait to see her make her first cut ~~~
I had an emergency bay door repair to attend to a few years back. It was the middle of winter so the door was closed, they were doing the same undercarriage replacement as you guys and the idler went through the bottom of the door and 20 feet out into the yard ! It bounced off the bumper of a service truck and scared the hell out of the the guy in the cab. Caused about 15 grand in damage. SO much energy in those systems !! Stay safe guys.
The frankendeere came together nicely, its always nice to go out back and find what you need, no backorder dates involved, everybody needs a hammer like that in their toolbox!
Whilst the wrecking ball use as a sledge hammer was more than impressive I am stunned by the power of the electric grease gun to compress that whopping big coil spring and tighten the track! I cannot begin to think about just how much stored energy is in one of those track units - no wonder it shot the idler wheel assembly at least half way across the workshop floor.
I think that gun can pump up to 12000 psi. Multiply that by the area of the cylinder ram that loads the spring; your somewhere in the vicinity of 150000 pounds applied force. Correct if I’m wrong!
That made me recall an old story from a factory which made buffers for railcars (in Europe): One of the cylinders cracked and shot the buffer about 200 m across an empty field. From where it ended, it was about 50 m to the nearest freeway. As I recall, those springs were compressed with about 150 tons of force.
i really enjoy your channel and all its content. but what i enjoy the most is how you treat everyone especially your boys. they are very lucky to have you as a Dad and teacher, and a place like yours to learn.
Hopefully you saw the interaction between Clinton and Perfect. There were several lessons dealing with each other and patients and making things work for the best.
I'm so glad that when Mike(Dirt Perfect) got that first 850, that he unfortunately had some issues with it. Had those issue never surfaced, he would of probably never had the video with you explaining the issues and you striving to resolve them. Had that not happened, I would of not known about your channel. So glad I did find your channel through Mike and have really been enjoying your content. Keep up the good work.
WOW - talk about stored energy. That track had some major release. Glad all your crew OK. That wrecking ball/sledge was awesome!👏 Also, so cool you have 3 generations of your family working with you - blessed!
he is very lucky/good whatever you wish it to be called that he didn't get a nasty grease injection injury on his arm. cool chanel though glad i stumbled across it. they are actually too far from me here in Indiana
This is one of the most interesting video series...and a major testament to the kinds of not-so-obvious hazards you can run into in a heavy equipment shop. Kevin getting worried when unbolting the track...the idler shooting half way across the shop once the rust yielded...and then there's the grease fitting not holding. I know fluids under extremely high pressure can be injected through skin, the idea of it happening in that situation is very cringe-worthy. I hope that bruise heals well. Using the wrecking ball like that is pure Camarata...brilliant!
If all else fails consult grandpa, address the dozer and let the wrecking ball fly! This video is in parts a near calamity and huge fun to watch. Be careful guys - loved it.

This is gross, so if you have a weak stomach stop now. I had a painful cyst on my back and laid on the examination table while the doctor started pushing. The contents went four feet sideways and made it to the ceiling.. Clean up in exam room two..... The power of hydraulic pressure is awesome.

Great video story. In a branch office of the Company I worked for back in the 1970's one of our Mechanics lost his life when a track idler tensioner let go. It was 'sprung' with nitrogen behind the grease. Apparently it went off like a rocket and our man was in the wrong place at the wrong time, so I was told. So, when you folks were swinging that ball at the idler, I was sucking air through clenched teeth. I was wondering if in that other 'dozer's short life, did somebody run that in salt water? That's about what we could expect too, considering the rust that held the idlers in place. Regardless though, you got the jobs done and done well.
we use'd the same sort of rods when we had burn through at the electric furnace to clean up all the liquid steel that hardened. only difference was ours was on a much larger scale.

Had a similar problem with a D6H in Belize that had been parked at by the side of the road for nearly 2 years....both track adjusters were seized solid and both tracks totally shot...wish I had a wrecking ball to release the font idlers..I cut the old tracks off rather than trying to split them....once I finally got the idlers were freed off and cleaned up job was sweet as a nut...biggest problem was trying to dodge the monsoon storms and lightning...great to see you change the complete undercarriage...👍👍
Man those idlers could kill someone flying out of there. I had no idea those would become so seized up like form just setting, but you built a nice machine out of your part bin.

See, now that the old track frames are off the tractor, you can remove the rollers and clean up the threads real nice. Put new rollers on and grease up the pivot shaft hole and next time you have another 850J in for fresh undercarriage you can just change our the track frames! I think I just saved Kevin a lot of hard work. 👍 That wrecking ball was next-level thinking. 3-D chess, for sure.

Congratulations on 50K plus subscribers!!! Dangerous work without a doubt!
Thanks
See, now that the old track frames are off the tractor, you can remove the rollers and clean up the threads real nice. Put new rollers on and grease up the pivot shaft hole and next time you have another 850J in for fresh undercarriage you can just change our the track frames! I think I just saved Kevin a lot of hard work. 👍
That wrecking ball was next-level thinking. 3-D chess, for sure.
