UK people especially and in Spain. I’ve always owned big dogs, German Shepards and St. Bernards, several dogs I. That range of size. All males, I don’t really like smaller dogs. I have an easier time training larger dogs and in most cases I don’t even bother with dog parks I’ll just find some woods, and let them go. The St Bernard I only do at night since it’s extremely hot where I live and the cooler it is the longer he can walk. German Shepard is an attack lap dog (Takes flying jumps on my lap if I’m on the couch). But only to me, he’s extremely gentle with my nephew and my grandmother which I didn’t teach him. I wanted to see his first reaction and he seemed to understand that he can’t be rough with them. He’s a good babysitter too. Had my younger brother wander off at my Uncle’s place (good sized farm and about 17 acres with pretty heavy woods on about half of it, So we got concerned when we couldn’t find him. Till we found the Shepard sitting on a hil, James(brother) was feeding some ducks in a small pool with the Shepard right next to him.

The family was actually laughing and seemed to almost encourage it. It is a big park that you can hike around, and the dog followed me for about 50 yards away from the family and still was being too aggressive. I just picked up my dog and walked back to my car, giving them a dirty look on the way out.
Honestly i should've just body slammed that pit and called the police on them, cuz that dog is a ticking time bomb and that family had way too many kids.

    • @Sasqe
      @Sasqe ปีที่แล้ว +6

My german shepherd goes into the "small breed" pen because thats where her temperment is. She gets to socialize with the tiny, well behaved dogs while learning proper social behavior, and she is very delicate and gentle. Even if there is a small dog that decides to attack her, it doesn't phase her much and she'll kinda just watch curiously.
I don't recommend taking big dogs into the small pen unless you know what you're doing. My dog was mauled by huge 120lb dogs when she was a puppy so she is super delicate and comfortable in the small pen, where she knows she is safe from big dogs

    • @Pitbullmom
      @Pitbullmom ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Sasqe I wish I could do that but people would lose their minds because my babies are very large Pitties. And I promise they're the biggest babies. The last time we went to the park, one of them was attacked by another dog, completely unprovoked. As a matter of fact, he wasn't even facing the other dog when the other dog literally jumped on his back and attacked him. It broke my heart because Romeo didn't even try to defend himself. After that, I'm done with dog parks. Too many bad pet parents. I don't blame the dog. I blame the parents. Your dog is a product of their raising. If they're raised with love and kindness, that's what they'll be. But when they're raised in a violent environment, unfortunately that's what they'll be.

@Pitbullmom Not always it can be with under socialization or bad expirences, especially at a young age. Irregardless the owner should know better when bringing their dogs to the park or interacting with others.
I had a 100+ lbs gaurdian/livestock breed dog that was off leash and attacked us on our walk. My puppy (golden) was 3 months old at that time. She had me and her older sister a (4 year old golden retiever) protecting her, but she still has trauma at 1 year old. (I had to pepper spray the attacking dog, the owner was useless. Their neighbor called the police on their after witnessing what happened to us) but she still is scared of unknown dogs despite my trainer and socialization of safe known dogs.
I have to tell other dog owners no she's not friendly becuase of that one incident. She wouldn't attack but she's freaking SCARED. I need her to trust me. I'm not potentially making it worse by meeting random dogs.

As a kid I went to dog parks quite often, I didn’t know better at the time and now I avoid them. But I came to realize just because your dog isn’t aggressive doesn’t mean it’s behavior is okay. Dogs that
    - Bark in other dogs faces
    - Bulldozes other dogs
    - Humps other dogs
    - Nips at other dogs
    - Toy possessive
    - Refuses to leave other dogs alone
    - Challenges other dogs
    - Easily accepts challenges from other dogs
Should also never be taken to a dog park too. Manners are important and just because your dog isn’t aggressive doesn’t mean it’s well behaved. Dog parks are NOT places you go to socialize or rehabilitate your dog.

Ive had problems with other guys who arent from my friend group and have had some nast fights, even though i am a pretty chill guy and love humanity. Some guys are just assholes and see others as a threat. We let our monkey brains win as to often much as we think we are smart and have self control. I dont blame my dog when he fights he is my family and i hope he wins lol. But yeah, try to break it up before it happens.

Things like this happen, an owner should know their dog and act accordingly. I think they both did great. Things like this happen without balls or other games. And it is perfectly normal to say "i think we are leaving" because you want to stop the tension building up.

    • @tiffles699

There was already some tension. I think it was just too much. Going when there's only going to be 1 or 2 other dogs or playing outside the fence or such will help. Noticing when things are getting too heated is important.
Luckily my girl will roll over on her back for literally everything or run to me like I'm base/safe. She's also used to sharing with fetch. She does it with the unsocialized ones at home and the ones at the park.

If my dog is tense around another dog, I simply leave.

  • @thetruepatriot7733

To be fair, thats not a dog fight its a dominance battle. Dogs rarely harm each other during a dominance battle. When you put a group of dogs together the first thing they want to do is establish a hierarchy. The hierarchy literally determines everything, which dog gets to play with the ball, which dog gets to eat, which dog gets to mate, etc. This is absolute normal behavior when two dominate dogs meet. Solid training and good handling can prevent this. The owners should have recognized the dominate behavior and stepped in to correct their dog's behavior. I have 4 intact male Rottweilers, a dominant dog will walk all over you if you dont know what your doing..

Yeppers! Just left the dog park where I like to take my dog when there's no one else within the one fence. I like to play ball and fetch with her she loves it! But we don't go there if there are any other dogs. Today we were there and a elderly man approached with his German shepherd off leash, a large German Shepherd and appeared to be entering the part of the park that we were closed into. I asked him to wait until I put my dog back on leash, so I could leave the park to them. I kindly explained I did not want to socialize my dog with a stranger and that she has just been aggressively barkes at by a bigger dog from another fences in place. Point is I know she was already in defense mode because of that. And he began to lecture me and asked me if my dog was vicious. I repeated to him that I did not wish to socialize my dog at this time and that I would appreciate him clearing the way so we could leave. He continued to lecture me on that I needed to train my dog, mind you he had just walked up and had he seen the other confrontation from afar he would have known the bigger dog was the aggressor...he continued to demand it was time to socialize my dog. He kept on shouting to me how I need to handle my dog. To which I said you just don't get it do you? at which time he STILL continued to lecture me on how to be a dog owner as I walked away. I finally just told him to shut up that he didn't know us. And we completely left the park. My point is I'm just really glad I am privy to what can happen between two dogs and the fact that this man would not stand down whatsoever is pretty foreshadowing as to how that can happen between dogs. If it can happen between humans it's going to happen between dogs. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Even in my most cautious attempts to use the parks I've seen thing happen...and they often have irresponsible dog owners with no boundaries. Have to find alternatives 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you've never lost consciousness, then auditory exclusion can be difficult to understand. Your hearing almost disappears completely/may disappear completely momentarily.
This is why police in high-stress situations will scream the same simple commands over and over, it's the only way you can get compliance sometimes...it's also (partially) why some suspects have an incredibly hard time following easy commands (other reasons include drugs/alcohol or just poor reasoning ability).
So keep that in mind, and in cases of loss of consciousness, vision will also disappear completely, even if their eyes are wide open.

I’ve never understood the concept of dog parks. These people that treat dogs as if they’re humans think dogs are raised to be violent. Dogs are still wild animals to some degree and they live by the actual rules of the world, which is anything goes and survival of the fittest. Some dogs are actually trained and the owners don’t have to worry about this happening, but the majority of dogs aren’t trained and people think the dog understands English fully. Your dog understands the commands you train it to know. Put your dog around other dogs and they will fight at some point. My Boerboel was trained and obedient but, if he decided to lose his mind one day on someone, I’d hate to be that someone trying to stop a 165 pound beast.

Agreed. A Boerie and any other Mastiff types I truly pity the person who gets in their way. I've seen what a very "chilled" and friendly Mastiff, who unfortunately wasn't trained very well and wasn't used to children at all, can do to a unruly and unsupervised child who decided to play very roughly and tease the dog. Did not go well for that kid. It was One of those moron type owners who let out their dog at a event/function with family. Then some smaller and larger (probably around 8 to 11 year olds) kids who were unsupervised and also spiteful apparently decided they were bored and started teasing and pissing off said dog, that one smaller kid he got hold of nearly died with a cracked skull. Worse part for me was I never once thought it was that dog's fault. Had many interactions with that dog and adored that big ole dog. Was devastated all round because of what went down. Mostly blamed the owners. Things didn't have to go so wrong if they were just smart enough to have actually just put the dog in his kennel away from all the people, and supervised the children as well. People really don't know how fast things can go very south with dogs especially the bigger more hunky dogs like mastiffs.
P.s. love a Boerboel and many Mastiffs types. That big hunk of dog was a sweetie with me was always by my side and shadowed me everywhere when I visited there, and I'm a fairly small woman like 5'2 ish, but unfortunately his owner was the one who ruined that poor dog. Still miss him and his big chunky head was always so happy to see us.❤

Thats why you should let dogs work out their differences and establish pecking order. Dog parks are amazing tools and allow for a dog to truly run free if your yard space is limited- someone who has a low energy breed like you wouldn't understand how difficult it is to get enough daily exercise for your dog. Also, all mastiff breeds attend my dog park, all bully breeds and shepherd breeds. There is a mastiff who hates shepherds and would whoop any shepherd who came to close to her (my Sheppard included 😂) its not a bad thing to let dogs do what is natural to them. If they use their strength to establish dominance then thats what their gonna do - the owners should be knowledgeable enough and strong enough to lift a dog by the collar to choke them enough to end any out of control fighting. Im confident everyday i attend a park becuase my dog is tough enough to handle her own and im strong and tall enough to collar choke any breed into submission 😂😂

The hardest thing was when a couple brought a new adoptee who was too afraid of people to return to them when the park was closing for the night.

Dog parks are great that's why there so popular- being a solid pet owner means being aware of the trouble markers and acting accordingly- second, being knowledgeable about dog behavior and their physical signals. Some dogs will have physical altercations at the park for a variety of reasons - if you have a small dog, stay at a small dog park, if your dog is a wanna be killer stay away, besides that dog "fights" like this begin and end quickly- keep the dogs apart when they show signs of aggression DUH. My shepherd has been only in two "fights" with her daily dog park runs and i nor the other dog owners EVER stepped in (we kept talking and walking oppositeof each other)- we allowed them to establish who was the head bitch then we moved on. I never seen a fight get out of hand at that park the two years iv gone (and i go everyday) iv seen inexperienced per owners cause dogs to turn more vicious with their own hysteria but the fight still ended and no dog had a scratch on them. If you aren't dominate and knowledgeable enough to enjoy a dog park thats a problem, dont degrade other people who utilize dog parks correctly.

@@andrewmartin4387I get that. And it's too bad that not every energetic dog has a yard to run around. I suppose there are other options though, safer options, like riding your bike/trike with your dog on a lead. Dog parks are dangerous though. Fights can, and do, break out between dogs and the results can be devastating. Small, yippy dogs get chewed up, large dogs can do some real damage, and even people can be injured as they try to break the fights up. (I know- I lost a thumb to a dog fight.)
But, worse than that, contagious diseases can very easily flourish and transmit between dozens of dogs in these concentrated areas. Just recently, a respiratory disease has been infecting dogs, killing some. And, parvovirus vaccines are not 100% effective. Not everyone vaccinates their dogs.
It just doesn't seem it's worth the risks. People need to consider the breed of dog they adopt and the proper living conditions for that breed. City dwellers should be aware that many large breeds need room to run and don't belong in confined living conditions.
But, in reality, I suppose a large adopted dog in a city is a much better end than an abandoned dog in a city.

The one time I did, the other dog seemed to constantly try to provoke and dominate him, but he's such a timid dog he just seemed upset and kept walking away confused. I felt so bad for him so I never went back lol.
That same man even told me to always have my dog off leash so he can learn to come back and shit even if other dogs are around, yeah sure but if they are dogs like urs no thx.

But I am always keeping my eye on her and the other dogs, ready to step in if the body language doesn't look right. I work at a animal daycare/boarding place and anytime a fight happens the first thing I do is yell “hey” and then like “enough” or “knock it off”, which I also yell, some people say “oh yelling will only make it worse and it won’t do anything”, then explain why like 9 out of the 12 fights I have had to break up was me yelling what I said earlier and then only really needing to grab the dogs to keep them from fighting again and calming them down, a few fights have been pretty decent ones where I had to actually grab one of the dogs and throw them back and away to stop it, I’m not scared to get in there with my hands and get it stopped, I’d rather take a little bite then one of the dogs get seriously injured, I have also really learned kind of the starting points of dog fights and how some of the high energy dogs function that get playtime pretty much every day, I’m not an expert like this guy is but I know how to stop let alone even prevent dog fights from happening, when I notice two dogs starting to play rough which is usually when dog fights start here, I find the dog that is like starting it or egging it on, and I will either kind of push them with my knee or hand or scruff them and pull them back so their attention is no longer on the other dog, their attention is focused on me because of that slight amount of pain or discomfort and it pretty often (not every time) chills them out enough so they play nice again, it’s the same saying for kids, you play nice or not at all, I use that for the dogs and it works pretty well, I’m also not suggesting you just start sticking your hands everywhere and grabbing collars and necks, it’s pretty dangerous when a dog fight is happening but it’s sometimes the only way to break up a fight, so if your too scared to get in there and get it stopped, then don’t bring your dog to a dog park, a fight is pretty much inevitable at dog parks which is why I would recommend not even bringing your dog to a dog park, it’s just too much risk for a little bit of playtime, just take your dog to a park or large fenced in area and they will have a ton of fun with you just throwing the ball as far as you can and them bringing it back and them running around and playing.
