There aren’t enough women in these movies , and there aren’t enough scenes featuring people that call themselves women sitting around tables talking about women things. What’s your problem, man? 🤣🧂
this is freaking crazy they are not even talking about the movie or were the story might go no wonder people slowly stop caring if this is all they have to say
Excellent, as ever. At the end I kept wondering "has it really been 5 years of trash and losses? How is that possible? How is it that they militantly refuse to get the message?" I have a long-running natter with Adam Post about this. My theory is that smaller studios, esp film studios, generally do project financing. Pitch movie, agree, secure finance, produce, exercise cost control, finish, screen, get very direct feedback on success. However, Disney is a conglomerate. They behave as if funding is disconnected to production and results because... it is. Therefore they are more like a bureaucracy, or Stalinist tractor factory. Doesn't matter what the quality or demand for tractors is, the answer is You Get Tractor. But but we like family cars now! You Get Tractor. Maybe a light pickup? You Get Tractor.

See how annoying it is when another race forces you to watch their stories when you never asked for them? Diversity isn't for black people, Stupid. Actors are nobility. Not _like_ the nobility of old. They are literally the nobility. Carefully chosen and uplifted based on a closed culture that thinks they are superior to the commonfolk.
Old nobility were warriors that manage and defended their realms, this new nobility are the socialite type, that get there high positions by making popular plays among the elite
Actors are adult pretenders, earning their wage by saying lines from a piece of paper. They are paid to feign emotions and pretend to be other characters with the purpose to tell a story that entertains us. That is as far as their influence reaches.
As a woman, Black Widow remains my biggest personal MCU disappointment. They had an opportunity to tell the PERFECT darker and gritty origin story, which Natasha absolutely had with the Red Room. It should have been about her childhood, brutal training, time spent as a brainwashed operative (no mind control, that's world-shatteringly stupid), and how Clint was able to reach her, be about to kill her, and make the different call. It would have had a female lead, could have introduced plenty of diverse and memorable characters from Widow missions all around the globe. But what we got instead was worse than hot garbage. An idiotic villain. A forced protagonist replacement. Red Guardian as a punchline. The "heroes" casually murdering a prison full of guards and inmates alike without a thought. And the most boring "oh wow, Taskmaster is actually a woman" gimmick that tried to whitewash Natasha's actual dark history by pretending she never really killed Dreykov's daughter. Finally a plot so full of holes, contrivances, and stupidity that I gave up halfway through. I hate that movie so much ugh

I'm almost 30 years old woman and I never felt I was lacking female heroes. We had them, A LOT, just in other media/franchises. Superheroines? The japanese magical girl genre had it's best years in late 90s/early 2000s and quite a lot of those shows made it's way to the West! Sailor Moon had 30th anniversarry last year. Winx Club is 20 next year. 20+ years of animated Barbie movies. Disney Princesses from Disney renessaince. A lot of shows/books based on fashion doll lines that were focused on all-female friends groups. Totally Spies for non-magical action show. Kim Possible too. W.i.t.c.h. for girl-focused comics, VERY big in Europe. Young Adult Book section is dominated by female authors and feamle protagonists for like 15 years. I feel like people in those interviews ignore all of those because they are a few years older than me, maybe had less female heroes, stopped paying attention, because they grew out of cartoons and only remember things from 40 years ago and their childhood, ignoring "progress" that was made already, years ago. Or just really want girl-oriented Marvel/Star Wars in particular, ignoring that other stories exists.
I think your last sentence there is onto something. The way I see it, the people behind the M-She-U want to control media at the level of the MCU and Star Wars so they can push their politics on the rest of us. They don't care about Sailor Moon or Kim Possible because those shows don't have the cultural influence of the MCU and because the female leads are actual characters and not personifications of Woke identity politics.
@@martinferjancic What's great about Winx Club for me is that is Italian cartoon! It's a country that is not big on animation like US, Japan or even France. For me, it's the biggest "diversity" it brings. And is inspiring for creators from countries that do not have biganimation industry.
People also ignore a very current female hero in one of the most popular highly rated franchises of all time.. Eleven in Stranger Things! The badass protagonist of this series started out as a little girl and is now a grown young woman. Her character always was/will be LOVED and respected. Eleven has been and continues to be almost entirely overlooked as a strong badass female character because she’s just such an amazing CHARACTER. Her gender has never needed to be forced front and center as a means of propping up a weak character who needs the woke-identity points for use as a club or shield against the audience or critics. Those of us who never grow tired of shitting on the M-she-U and girlboss garbage are the ones who LOVE the character of Eleven, who isn’t a “female hero”- she’s just a “hero”, an absolute epic fucking badass, period.

When I was growing up in the late 80s and 90s (as a half-white, half-asian kid) I was already watching diverse entertainment. I loved Eddie Murphy, Bruce Lee, Will Smith, Jackie Chan, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc, etc, etc. I could relate to people of all colors. Hell, I could relate to humanoid turtles. I never needed to see myself on the screen because I enjoyed vicariously living through the heroes on my TV. When I was a teenager, I got into anime and I have been in love with it for 20+ years. I am not Japanese and I am not part of their culture. But I enjoy engaging with and learning about their culture. And I can still relate to the characters because human emotions are universal. People have spent thousands of years hearing, reading, and watching stories with all kinds of people. The ancient Greeks hearing the Odyssey weren't demigods. No one reading King Arthur were kings and knights of a mythical Britain. No one reading Superman were refugees from an alien planet. No one watching Star Wars were space wizard monks. Normal (non-narcissistic) people can relate to people who don't look like them. I am an aspiring writer and none of my characters are self-inserts. I have enough self-reflection to realize that I am not a very interesting person. I'm just a normal guy. And, as a reader, I like to read about interesting people. Therefore, I write characters who are interesting and do interesting things. And, most importantly, those characters are defined by much, much, much more than their skin color, gender and sexuality. TLDR: People enjoy fiction because they can vicariously live through the characters and people can relate to any character, regardless of whether those character look like them.
As a half filipino irishmen, i agree with this sentiment fully. In the 90s, we were color blind. Nowadays, everyone is color obsessed. It's pathetic how far we've collectively fallen and how shallow our media has become. Since Phase 4 has felt like taking a high dive into a shallow puddle, i've spent alot of recovery time in the world of Anime myself. Mostly Berserk, just to counterbalance all the cotton candy messaging in the MSheU. Something indulgent yet reflective to wash my mouth out after being force fed lazy DEI politics and lazy attempts at brainwashing me into believing i somehow caused all these problems. 😂 Safe to say, i'll never go back and i won't be subjecting my son to the shit they're pushing in Phase 5. I'd rather hand him a few volumes of Shonen Jump and let him go from there. Knowing he won't be exposed to media villainizing his skin color or gender, knowing he'll learn something of value instead of being groomed by self-insert authors pushing a message on a company soapbox.
Fantastic comment dude. I made the same point months ago to some dude who was trying to defend Disney the other day with all of this woke nonsense. I made the exact point about how as a kid I related to 4 mutant Turtles ffs, hell I wanted to BE Leo! I dont care about whether the character represents me, is the same color etc etc.
I challenge you to find one person who can’t empathize with tmnt: it’s so basic at its core that the fantastical elements just fade away. It’s got brotherhood and family between radically different individuals who fight and argue but at the end of it all always confirm that they are a family and you always stick by your family. It’s got coming of age stories unique to each of the 4 turtles, control, responsibility, confidence, and not being a goofball for 5 minutes Mickey. Yes they are turtles and ninjas on top of that, fighting aliens and mutants and I think dragons on at least one occasion but at their core they were meant to be relatable to everyone.
Its sad how backwards we've gone as a society, obsessing so much over superficial diversity. No one cared about this nonsense in the 90s and we had much better Black films then. Because they put entertainment first and just happened to have black leads. Now its token representation first and no thought at all put into entertaining the audience.
The 90s was the sweet spot. Leftists brought back judging based on skin color. We'll hit the sweet spot again, but since the pendulum was given so much energy it's gonna swing right through that.
@@johndoe8785 Keep that up when the white population of USA falls below 30% and you're scrambling for representation just like South African whites. That's actually the secret reason why they are forcing diversity. Black South Africans refuse to integrate with whites and due to the sharp decline in WHITE fertility, whites are in danger of job loss in USA in the future if everyone has their own black Hollywood or Bollywood or Asian cinema. So whites are gonna lose their biggest media empires due to segregated content. BUT thank you nerds for ensuring that blacks have their OWN spaces, it'll be easier to prioritize our own people when that inevitable future happens and we're not forced to employ white people for DIVERSITY
Agreed! When people try to explain this to the young enthusiasts of woke, they say there was tons of racism and micro aggressions, and we were just not educated enough to realize it. [facepalm]
I love how their interviews give away the game and the quality of the movies. "It's because I'm finally in it and represented." There was nothing apparently good to talk about in regards to the actual movies. It was just them that was "the good part". Cue their "intended audience" doing what they're known to do "You think I give a shit about you? Bitch, that's hilarious. 🤣"
One thing that just crossed my mind: You always see stars wear the merch of the movie they are promoting at the moment. And that makes sence. But sometimes I think wearing merch for something else maybe even another movie would work even more. For example: Henry Cavill is a Warhammer nerd and at many occasions he just nerded about it. Very passionate I might add. And this, this real "advertising" for something they love makes me so much more interested in anything they touch. You feel like you know a bit about what makes someone tick. With the glorious message of Henry Cavil creating a Warhammer Series, I am so much more engaged because I know how deeply evolved he is in Warhammer.
So my degree is in advertising and the most important thing to know is women (in the US, don't know of the UK) spend 65 to 85% of every dollar. All advertisers want to talk to women, so all major media panders to women, so they've taken a male product and stuck a vagina on it. And guess what? The women aren't showing up. They are paying lip service to the feminization of everything, but their actual pockets are being emptied for Taylor Swift. HAHAHAHA!
Barbie worked despite its very heavy handed messaging because it's a female dominated IP. Trying to make traditionally male dominated IPs into female ones was never going to work. As dumb a decision as having Barbie 2 be about Ken as an action hero like John Wick, with Barbie only in it at the end as a damsel in distress!
I'd say they failed at even _trying_ to be girl brands: No romance, the costumes are bland and/or ugly, the relationships are hollow/shallow, there are few to no strong, hot men...
"We've made herstory, yeah!" As a father of three lovely, tiny women... I hope they never have to hear that term. It's so patronizing and infantlizing.
To be fair, inserting Carol into the Endgame fight gave us its most glorious scene - Thanos ripping the power stone off his glove and using it to sucker punch that insufferable cow halfway across the battlefield.

As an Indian if I wanted an Indian movie i would have watched Bollywood. The first diversity nonsense i watched was doctor who with joddie whitekar, it felt like a simulacrum, a comic representation of my culture. I just wanted some good British television
Agreed 100% I feel the same way when Hollywood remakes (a.k.a. ruins) a foreign film/show/anime. I honestly dread this trend of western remakes of beloved anime.
The point Woke wants you to believe is that you can only feel validated as a human being is if you see someone that you think looks like you in a movie or TV show.
That is exactly what I feel. People outside the USA watch Hollywood movies to see "American" stories. It's very colonial of these "Equity" types to say that they have a duty to show other people's cultures (actually their own interpretation of other people's culture). What I want to see in my local theatre, is more movies from other countries than Hollywood (and yes, it's not even American movies, Hollywood is its own thing now that does not even represent the USA anymore, let alone anyone else). That is what I want for diversity. Not Hollywood's version of diversity which boils down to showing lesbian women of various pigmentation. I want different worldviews, and that won't be represented by Hollywood, but by seeing movies from different countries made by people with different worldviews.
You have summarised this issue perfectly. I also agree. As an african if I want african black stories i know where to watch them. Here in my own country! I watch hollywood because I want to see America and I watch BBC because I want british television. But they forget that we are actually intelligent people and know what we want. If I want pizza I'll go look for pizza not a burger.
Do you think the diversity and inclusion movement will affect the Indian film system at all? Will there be quotas in Bollywood for other ethnic groups and the merry-go-round of gender identities? I doubt it myself.
There is nothing inherently wrong with having a female be a lead in anything, some of the best stories have a woman as the main character. The problem with most films/shows these days is that they go about it in the worst way possible. Instead of making a great character that is strong who just so happens to be a woman, they instead do their absolute best to make the story all about her and nothing else to the point of madness. Not taking any risks, protecting the lead from any sort of serious injury/consequence. And instead of focusing on the concept for the plot and a cool story, they focus on the message of "empowerment" and "diversity." They want to check boxes, not create something meaningful and artistic. In the process of doing that they lose themselves in that whole idea of diversity and wanting to flaunt it like an achievement, and the entire story goes into the shitter. Making the character come off as just unlikable or unrelatable, in the pursuit of pleasing one specific demographic they neglect everything else that makes a character a character...or a story a story. Spoilers for anyone who has not watched these shows/movies Mizu from Blue Samurai is a perfect example of a female lead that fits right into the narrative it's trying to tell, it also manages to strike that perfect balance of having her be an extremely capable fighter who can kick ass but not someone who is invincible at all times. She gets her shit wrecked quite a few times, and doesn't just over power every opponent she fights. A lot of the time she has to outsmart or outmaneuver them in order to win, which makes the fights way more engaging and tense. She's also a flawed character who makes a ton of questionable choices, and characters don't shy away from calling out the mistakes she makes through the narrative. Vi from Arcane is another example, that shows honestly a masterclass in many things but having good lead is defiantly one of it's strong points. She's strong, but not overpowered and gets beaten a few times in the first season. She also has a lot of flaws and doesn't handle certain situations well...like THAT event in the third episode with her sister, but it is all balanced out with her good qualities, such as her loyalty and loving heart beneath her tough exterior. Which makes her an incredibly dynamic character to follow, and not just a typical tough girl character. I can honestly keep going: Ripley from Alien, Sarah Connor from Terminator 1 and 2, Clare from Claymore (super underrated tbh), Alita from Alita Battle Angel (the manga, haven't seen the film), Bayonetta, Wonder Woman from the 2017 film and the Animated series universe. I can keep going but I'd be here all day lol. It's just a damn shame we don't have writers who priorities a well written character first, gender second...because it's this toxic mentality of forced agendas that has lead to this drought of creativity we are witnessing today.
Bang on, I gotta say, you mentioned Alita battle angel. I honestly loved that movie, you should watch it, she is so fucking badass in that movie, it’s really good, highly recommended.

It’s things like these tho which really spark my creative side, and really push me to complete writing my story which I’ve been working on for god knows how long tbh with you…just so we can have actual narratives that don’t depend on cheap gimmicks and can actually have a beginning. A middle. And an ending. Instead of just being milked to death, or diverge into a multiverse with no substance. Or an Agenda filled mess with quote on quote “strong female characters.”

@@anthonys9743 exactly! You don’t gotta make the female characters constantly shit on the male characters for their character to be strong and compelling with unique characteristics and strengths or weaknesses. Men and women are different, that’s what makes it so awesome when you see someone actually make good strong female characters, because they’re able to show that fact….without showing some bs political agenda down our throats, it only ever just utterly destroys immersion of a story…which we are watching to…you know…be immersed.. it boggles my mind that any actresses actually think the way Brie Larson does, I wouldn’t be surprised if people have treated her bad…..as a result of her being a narcissistic bitch…. But you know people like her gotta twist that into “men are evil because reasons”.. I just don’t get why *most* of modern Hollywood can’t just make characters or portray characters which highlight our differences and celebrate them as strengths and something to celebrate, instead of something to shun, and try to remove. “Women can do everything men can”. Bullshit! There’s just no way! They can try of course, but then again, I can try to give birth…. But I’m a man, so….it kinda isn’t what lies in my biology. Men can’t do everything women can do, and women can’t do everything men can do. We can all do some of what the other can, but that doesn’t mean our different inherent strengths just suddenly disappear. We all have different things we are good at and most capable of, and that’s not something to degrade or be embarrassed or upset about, we just have to learn how to…not give as much of a fuck. And learn how not to follow the mainstream belief/narratives that divides us…

The movie's advertising and marketing budget was around $150 million USD, for a total cost of $425-$455 million USD. Theatres never show movies for free, with a worldwide average of 50% of the box office taken by cinema chains. Now look at the total box office as of December 31, 2023: $199.965 million. I'll round up to $200 million. Theatres have taken $100 million, leaving $100 million for Disney. If you only use the production budget, that is a loss of between -$175 million and -$205 million ($100m minus $275m up to $305m), but wait, that does not include the marketing budget. Using only that budget, The Marvels lost -$50 million. Adding the two losses together, The Marvels has lost Disney -$225 million on the low end to -$255 million with the currency exchange. One of my favorite villains on the MCU was Cate Blanchett's very female Hela. I find her exceedingly more memorable than these cut-and-paste female "heroes" and for much better reason.
Whoopie ain't too bright. A couple years ago, she said WW2 was just about white people fighting each other. I guess those millions of people in Asia who died don't count to her.
Anyone else feel like the way Hollywood talks about representation is a little insulting? Like people who aren't white men somehow don't exist if they're not in a movie and it's an experience to see these exotic people What's even more insulting is that they completely dismiss all the genres that heavily feature these people because, to them, Hollywood blockbusters are the only movies in existence
When Iron Fist came out, Disney (and its fanboys) were acting like it was the first movie to ever feature an Asian person. As a person with Chinese blood running through his veins and someone who has been watching Asian pop culture his whole life, that seriously angered me. These people were dismissing 100 years of Asian film making to prop up some crappy superhero movie. I even had someone tell me that no modern kid will want to watch a Bruce Lee movie because those movies are too old. I was born 13 years after Bruce died and I loved his films when I first saw them in the early 90s. I'm not going to call that person racist for saying something so stupid, but I will say that people like that are incredibly ignorant and disrespectful.
@fattiger6957 It's sad that such closed minded thinking has gained ground. Sure, it's great to have different types of people in blockbusters, but it shouldn't mean other cultures get downplayed and disrespected
I'm starting to think that they only do that when they know the movie will be trash. If the movie were good, they would be talking about the plot of the film
I was constantly waiting for Carol to get her just desserts for her actions. She currently has a larger body count than Thanos. And we’re expected to worship her as a hero. Iron Man started as a selfish character and grew. Carol is nothing but selfish and she has not changed or been humbled. Only affirmed that everything she has done is okay in long run.
Yeah, they could have made that movie like winter soldier (best mcu movie) and had a cool spy thriller. Oh no, the message is more important. The whole taskmaster reveal was such a joke.
The writer/director on _Black Widow_ proved she was a complete idiot when she said she couldn't figure out how to work Taskmaster into the story as someone who would work for Dreykov. That's why the character ended up being his daughter. In the comics Taskmaster is a mercenary; he'll work for _anyone_ who pays him. The Avengers have even hired him to help train teenagers with superpowers! Also the line "The only natural resource this world has too much of...GIRLS" is so unbelievably cringey I can't believe it made into the movie.
Best scene in Endgame was when Thanos used an infinity stone to punch Ms. Marvel out of the battle. THAT scene gave me some hope they were self aware enough not to ruin MCU with woke politics. Sadly, I was wrong.
sadly you didn't read between the lines...first you had Thanos BEATING Hulk with no use of any powers or any of the Infinity gems, just his bare hands in Infinity Wars...but in End Game, he needed one of the gem's powers to beat Captain Meh-vel? MOMENT I heard that, I knew they were going down that slippery slope and make the women start showing up the men
All the women coming to help Peter Parker (Spider-Man, one of the strongest characters in Marvel's history) play football with a gauntlet felt manufactured.
I think something Hollywood is really failing to understand when they do interviews where actors do nothing but speak about their gender and ethnicity, is that at the end of the day, all the actor has said is this movie exists, I also exist (and we already knew they were in the movie). The key problem with that is that we already knew the movie existed, and we DON'T CARE that a random person we don't know exists, not because of gender or ethnicity, but because moviestars just aren't a thing anymore (and thank god for that). There's a select few actors left whose fame has lasted from that era, but does anyone really go to see a movie they know nothing about (and I mean nothing) just because a specific actor is in it? People definitely used to, but that's nowhere near close to that level now. We don't care about the actors. They are boring people in real life because 99% of people on the planet are boring in real life. We care about the MOVIE. You know, the non-boring place we go to in order to escape real life? So when all an interview has ultimately accomplished is telling you that a boring person you don't know or care about exists, then it has accomplished nothing.
13:06 One slight change is I really wanted Nebula to be the one to have the gauntlet because we could finally give her a bit of retribution like in the Infinity gauntlet comic story.
Does anyone remember why Disney bought Marvel and Star Wars? It was to increase sales to a male demographic. But shortly after those acquisitions management at Disney went threw a restructure and it's almost like they forgot why they bought them in the first place. Since End Game it's like watching them burn money. Taking characters worth billions if not trillions in the long run and making them worth pennies. Sad
The paradox that marvel films were far more entertaining and appreciated by a much wider audience when they didn’t give a damn about representation. And far far more lucrative financially. Quite the paradox.
Multiverse of madness came out around the same time as everything everywhere all at once. 'Everything' had 2 main diverse female characters. They had a background and a story that was relatable. Just because i am not that ethnicity does not mean i cannot emphasize with well written characters.
A pro all woman movie, made by women to appeal to women feminists did not bring out enough woman to watch it. And men thought this movie was not aimed at them. The box office speaks for itself.
My daughter watched this with me and she said these studios want more women to watch but don’t understand what women want to see in a super hero film. She said guys want to see Thor save the day and imagine they are Thor and women want to see Thor save the day, with his shirt off, and image they are his girlfriend.
all the wokes are just anti-human. if you wanna make them freak out, make them watch old movie about human nature like "Swept Away" (1974) (avoid the madonna remake at ALL costs). the story of a blue collar man and a wealthy woman stranded on a island
Also, women don't like other women. In fact, if they are going to sit and watch a movie with their boyfriend, they might prefer to watch a man than women in tight clothes, especially when that person is more attractive than them.
I will make a distinction with Kate Bishop. That's a good character, that not only has a personality and likeability, but also is a fan of the character that she is going to replace. Seeing her following Clint around like a lost puppy made perfect sense.
Agreed, Kate’s the only one I feel can properly take up the mantle. Plus I also liked that she was willing to turn her mom over to the police for committing crimes instead of pardoning her like you usually see now.
I'd say Kate and Yelena both felt likeable to me, out of the new characters, they were the only ones I liked. The rest all were the same, and not in a good way, because they all sucked and were bland.
Yeah and it's thoroughly established that Kate straight up would have died on multiple occasions without Hawkeye helping her. Plus, the show gets to have its cake and eat it too because they also have Yelena, and given that we know Yelena received the same training as Black Widow, it's not at all a surprise when she displays a similar level of fighting skill, so the show gets to have a badass female lead to hit Disney's quota. And when she just strolls onto the screen and says she's going to kill Hawkeye, instead of scratching our heads and thinking "and how the hell are you going to do that?" we instantly instead think "hold up why does she want to kill Hawkeye?" Because we know with her training, killing Clint is something she can feasibly do. So we're asking questions about why the characters are doing what they do, not asking questions in an attempt to reassemble our suspense of disbelief after it's just been shattered. The complete reverse of this is when we see Thanos unable to even scratch Captain Marvel unless he uses an Infinity Stone, therefore Captain Marvel's mere existence means Thanos should have been taken out decades before Infinity War. His army couldn't save him since we've seen Captain Marvel tear through spaceships (including Thanos') on multiple occasions. We know Thanos was active in pursuing his 50% population cull even before he had the stones (it's how he met Gamora, we literally see this), therefore he wasn't hiding. Therefore she could have found him. So the only logical reason for her not to kill him ages ago is because she couldn't... but he couldn't even scratch her, and suspense of disbelief shatters. She either needs to be weaker than Thanos or she needs a genuine reason to let him continue his repeated genocides. But we know she's stronger, AND she's portrayed as a hero. So what the hell? It just, doesn't, work. So the power scaling breaks the story. Captain Marvel's mere existence instantly makes literally everything around her make less sense because she's too strong not to solve every problem in two seconds. She's basically Superman with no weakness. And notice something interesting? NONE of the criticism I just levelled at Captain Marvel and NONE of the praise I gave Kate Bishop or Yelena have ANYTHING to do with their gender.
Targeting women shouldn't mean alienating men yet it seems the modern productions can't help themselves. If a movie has hot shirtless guys then showing sexy scantily clad women in the same flick ain't gonna bother 99% of the audience. Of the remaining 1%, only a fraction of that will be cancel pigs who should be ignored in the same way any other internet trolls should be. Instead, corporations feed them, thinking the publicity is good for the slop they sell.
Godzila Minus One is the true victory of diversity. We finally surpass the xenophobia with foreigner films and watched a Japanese film with the same respect and interest we had with Hollywood. There are no American Asian actors pushing new stereotypes over the old ones, or powers rangers erasing original actors and cultural elements. We saw a Japanese film, with Japanese actors, with elements of Japanese culture and we call it one of the best films of the year. plus the film has a lot of Messages and none bother us.
@@Bingdong69 Why has Japan been able to resist being taken over by the woke mind virus? Shame. Feeling shame for failure is a key component of their culture. In every country where there is no shame, the left have absolute control. In every country like the US and Europe, you see virtue signalers failing upwards.
I know the true meaning behind the word, but anytime I see or hear the term Xenophobia I cannot help but instinctively think the person talking means the fear of aliens for a split second before having to correct myself lmao
@@Bingdong69 Like I said. The true diversity is to embrace diversity of people and cultures. Not to force people and culture to chamce, racebending or whatever, thats the opposite of diversity.
Marvel is trying to cater to an audience that isn't interested in them. Yes, there are female fans but for the most part Marvel, DC and the suoerhero genre as a whole caters to men. Barbie was successful because of its Bait & Switch but also because it catered exclusively to a female audience. We like action and spectacle, they like drama and romance.
An astute observation, but you're not considering the propaganda aspect. Marvel *is* trying to reach men, to program them into grovelling to and worshipping women without expecting any gratitude or reward. The privilege of grovelling at the feet of these "goddesses" is to be seen as a reward in itself. This is the world feminists are trying to create. That is why they are targeting men and boy's franchises with their relentless propaganda. They don't understand men at all. They think we are all so obsessed with sex we'll do anything women want to get it. Only now are they starting to glimpse the entrenched resentment and anger at being treated as subhuman (which they call "misogyny") and they're starting to realise that, while men take a lot of punishment, when we do finally snap, the world trembles under our fury. We've done it before, and we'll do it again.
What I'd love to know is what do the female fans and audience think of all these misandrist and toxic male bashing movies. Do they actually agree with it? Do all women support this highly disgusting feminism?? Do they believe their is some malevolent patriarchy out to oppress them?
The funny thing is that many of us oh-so-coveted women preferred the first three phases because we liked watching competent men going on a hero's journey. When Marvel decided to be inclusive, I kind of hoped they'd just add women into the mix instead of trying to tear men down in order to artificially lift up their female counterparts.
They kind of soft ball Hela, they semi justify her by showing the secret history of Asgard implying Odin made her like this, and her taking Asgard is just her taking back what's rightfully hers.
@@blankbitofpaperThat's to be expected. They're always making excuses for female villainy, which usually involves her being mistreated by some man or other and then rising to fight back like the empowered whamyn she has become. It's wlays the fault of men and the patriarchy that women turn nasty. Women cannot be portrayed as innately evil, because the essence of femininity is milking sympathy and compassion for weakness to control others. Therefore they must always claim the moral high ground by portraying themselves as victim - even when they have goddess-like superpowers. They were doing this as far back as Maleficent - which was a blatant puff piece designed to justify and rationalise the Evil Fairy's villainy.
Yep, what Disney did with the Marvel Universe films by handing it over to people who never understood how the franchise had become so successful can be liked to all those producers who tried to emulate the success of Star Wars in 1977 by making films that only had 'strange creatures', 'spaceships', and 'explosions' in them as if these things were the great secret of success. Forget story, characterisation, quality of SFX, editing panache, directorial vision etc. and just bundle together what appear (to simpletons) to be the key elements. Those behind the M-She-U saw only superheroes, big firework-like displays of special effects and thought they could just repeat the same things with women in the key roles - with no thought to character, plot, or understanding of audience.
Lol I just commented basically this then saw your comment. "personality wise Kate, Yelena and ms marvel are all basically the same, young girls who look up to a "legacy"(using that term lightly in captains marvels case) character, learn from them, are excitable, kinda amusing, pretty decent at what they do BEFORE they interact with their adult counterpart but still get better after, fighting big organizations, some character with ties to the adult counterpart's mistakes is half of the problem they are facing and last but not least they have a moment to just have a little moment with the girls for some comic relief (the training bit in the marvels, yelenas jacket with nat, the bit after yelena and kate fight, the bit where yelena cooks hunting for clint...) like I enjoyed hawkeye as a show, I kinda enjoyed ms marvel to an extent and I think yelena is the only good thing to come out of the black widow movie but they are all VERY similar. I mean congrats to marvel, they have found a recipe that creates likeable characters I just see it growing old fast" At the moment it's a likeable cookie cutter character style, it will however get old VERY fast

21:36 imagine how much better this movie would have done if they had her attempt to stand alone, but then ultimately realize that she does need help and that she is human. Not only is she human, but she’s part of a team that would drop everything for eachother and fly in the face of everything she was taught as a child. 🤦🏻♂️
15:53 Black Widow and Hawkeye are great for the same reasons Batman is great: They are humans among Gods. And they are still needed, required and useful. Weaknesses make you stronger, even more is you overcome those weaknesses while still have them. Captain Marvel have no weakness, so there is nothing to overcome.
What still drives me crazy is that Captain Vagina was flying around the galaxy for decades while Thanos slaughtered half of the population of countless world's and she did nothing, all the while she could have just smashed through his ship at any time. (And Drax never got his revenge on Thanos)

10:20 I don't understand why M-She-U should make them mad they directly said they wanted more female heroes then male heroes. They're never going to have a guy replace Jean Grey. E ver.
Imagine how hilarious it would be if all the original avenger actors collectively went on interviews talking about how they love being a good representation of white men and love their white audience 😂🤣
There is now basically just one remaining old school movie star - Tom Cruise. The guy is as far away from my own way of thinking (very different religion etc.) but I love his movies for a very simple reason. He actually likes entertaining people and doesn't try to exclude others and put his own personal ideas into the characters he plays. When he plays an action hero he plays a classic action hero not some guy lecturing us about wokeness or anything else. I would never know his beliefs and ideas at all if I just watched his movies or even his interviews (he is extremely careful to only ever talk about the movie on these promotional videos) and that's EXACTLY what I want from a movie star.
Is he alone though? Russell Crowe seems to be on the have his both feet in the ground as well. i loved Critical Drinker's interview of him concerning The Pope's Exorcist, which gave a a very untypical vibe I could only name as 'genuine'.
People despise good old Mel Gibson but I've always liked him. His movies are usually free of the message but he seems to be going the nic cage and Liam Neeson route of just starring in anything regardless of quality.

If Marvel wants woman to watch Marvel movies, they don't need woman leads but have to use the most reliable tool there is, sex appeal. Just have the male characters walk without a shirt and the woman will come
My major problem with the Black Widow movie, apart from the obvious, was how they establish how the black widows have no agency other than to serve the whims and will of a patriarchal figure and pretty much retcon Nats’ narrative arch that began with her making amends because of all the red in her ledger to saying she pretty much sacrificed a little girls life in order to murder this patriarchal figure, ignoring the fact that when she planned this hit she wasn’t under the influence of the patriarchal musk, but working alongside SHIELD and the story straight up ignores she knowingly killed a child and yet it’s not her fault, it’s the girls fathers fault for being a manipulative misogynist, and she gets a free pass for reasons. That’s the shit that gets to me. When a man does evil it’s his fault entirely, but when a woman does evil it isn’t her fault, she was just a victim of the patriarchy. I cannot condone that level of solipsistic thinking.
I mention this a lot, but I feel like another issue with the MCU's female characters is that is that they suffer from something that I’ve learned in literature. And that’s something is called the “surrogate problem”. Now what is that you may ask? Well, a surrogate by definition is a substitute, specifically a person serving as the stand-in. In the case of storytelling, a character serves as the surrogate for the audience, as we often spend the vast majority or the entirety of the story through their perspective, rarely is dramatic irony when we know something our characters don’t utilize. Now, I’m not gonna go and say that this is a problem in every movie/tv show/video game, let alone is it a problem with characters themselves (whether male or female...), as it is an extremely good way to make the audience empathize with your characters. Take Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series. Just like Harry and Ron, she has moments of seeing things from her perspective when she's in the Wizarding World. Her shock-and-awe is our shock-and-awe. Now, all this isn’t a problem on its own, for the most part, but it makes her actions, even in the first 2 books/movies very PASSIVE, instead of ACTIVE. By that, I mean rather than her being the one who pushes the story forward through her own independent actions, the plot is mostly dictated and driven by external forces. Because if Voldemort and his squad weren't there to try to take over Hogwarts, Hermione wouldn't have any reason to involve herself in helping her friends in the conflict, and would be more busy trying to skip into higher honors classes. Therefore, it creates the risk of her being a bit of a dull character (Even though as the series progresses, she does become a much more layered an reinforced character, with notable flaws like her two friends....), who doesn’t really do much unless the plot says she must, therefore she's simply a surrogate for the audience and we the audience can witness everything around them, just like Harry and Ron. One way to prevent this is by making your characters extremely REACTIVE. Take Disney’s Mulan and Moana (ORIGINAL, not remakes…) for example. As throughout each of their stories, whatever stuff gets inflicted upon the two, it’s how they REACT to said-things, instead of actively making them happen, that defines Mulan and Moana. Another risk with surrogate characters is that they obviously lack any flaws or little personality. Basically, meaning that they’re one-dimensional. Therefore, the way to avoid this problem is by giving your characters a personality. Sarah Connor (Terminator), as many know, is a great example of this. She is certainly a surrogate character in the sense that we as the audience are stuck with her when the s**t goes down, but she’s an incredibly reactive character. She also has a defining and strong personality that makes us root for her to win in the end. Also add the fact that the first 2 movies use some of the greatest instances of dramatic irony ever displayed. Now, why am I talking about surrogate characters and their pitfalls? Because almost all the “modern-day MCU female characters” suffer heavily from them. As many of them aren’t active characters by any means, as none of the events happen because of them. They, like the audience, find themselves wrapped into some crazy conflict and are simply along for the ride, while conveying what is happening in our mind as the viewer. They are also not active characters, because whatever stuff gets thrown at them, it really doesn’t have any influence on them or the plot. Not to mention that despite giving them some backstory to learn about our female characters, it really doesn’t have any effect on them later on in the story. As if we didn’t know that about them, would the plot have still happened, let alone the conflict? Therefore, it leads to viewers, believing that if you remove them from the story, nothing would’ve changed. But if your characters, especially if they’re the main protagonist (Again, even if they're male or female), are almost completely irrelevant to the story and it’s conclusion, then something has indeed gone wrong.
If Male Actors never said anything like men are better and women are inferior then why do female actors gotta say that? Why Fury Never said White Boy Power to Captain America? Why Falcon Suddenly Remembered that he is black? Why Water wet
I've heard that Ms. Marvel's actor, whatever her name is, wasn't that much of an elitist, self-absorbed snob like, say, Brie Larson. Apparently she was generally liked by those who watched her show. I think it's telling that she starts her response regarding representation by saying at first she didn't see the big deal, but then [blah, blah, blah]. Assuming she's actually a nice person I wouldn't be surprised if pushing the _The Message_ wasn't that important to her, but that she was coached by Disney, etc. to say these things to help maintain the narrative tour. At least I'd like to hope so, and hold on to that dying spark of positivity when it comes to modern media and their mostly narcissistic population.
Maybe im weird, but I've never identified with a character, especially not for race or sex, I never looked at tony stark and said "an alcoholic, genius, playboy, billionaire, narcissist, with a metal super suit!!! Just like me!
Of course not, because the whole point of fiction is to whiteness stories that aren't your own. That's the whole point of it lol. Why would you want to hear stories about your own experiences or reality. It would bore the crap out of you
Imagine if Tony had never self destructed his millions of dollars & dozens of hours worth of preparation for Thanos for 0 reason at the end of Iron Man 3. & instead of Carol coming in to save the day, you see the iron legion come in. Like the moment they did in iron man 3 but much 10 times grander cause Tony’s done a lot of work on it since IM3. Would have been such an epic edition to the battle
I loved Jan and Carol from Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Jan is one of my favorite characters from the show, actually. And that's because of who she is. She is a phenomenal character who understands her limits and never puts people down to make herself look good. Same with Carol. Yeah, she's a bit of a hot-head, but several tones throughout the show you see her feeling like she doesn't feel she is good enough to be an Avenger. She has humility and, again, she doesn't act better than other people. The same can be said for Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl from Justice League, Starfire and Raven from Justice League, even Jean Grey and Storm from X-Men Evolution. It's not about gender or race, it's about being a good, relatable character.
How many millions were lost with the making of this movie? 100? 200? 250? So VERY stunning!! So brave!! HERSTORY made, before our very eyes! (well, those who saw it, which doesn't include me)
How many thousands of poor, sick or homeless women could that money have helped, if it hadn't been spent on a pointless piece of entertainment which entertained no one?
I almost feel bad for these women because it’s clear that they don’t want to say those things but are forced to; especially Iman Vellani cuz she’s a true fan of these characters.
You reallyy shouldn't feel bad for them. If a puppet had a conscience do you think they'd still say what we want them to? No. She's set for life. She couldn't care less bro. Hollywood is a tell me my line and hand me my check type of business.
Yeah, it's unfortunate cause there are a couple of the new female characters who I genuinely like (Iman, Kate Bishop, and Yelena) but sadly they're overshadowed by the rest of the subpar characters that Marvel/Disney has been trying to push
Movie actors of today arent REAL actors. Youll find them on Broadway, on any theatre where they perform the same 1000+ lines over and over for decade without being on TV and showing off their jupiter sized egos, Theatre actor/actoresses are the real deal. Your primary focus should be changing yourself as close as possible to the person you are portraying in the film, screenplay as close as possible. This comming from an actor myself since elementary school doing plays.
The only modern female MCU characters I liked were Kate, Yelana, and Sylvie. I don’t need explain Kate and Yelana, but I know Sylvie received a lot of backlash. Sure she may have caused the problem in the first place but her reasons for doing that were understandable. She was listening to the warnings of someone she couldn’t trust, someone she could just see as someone begging for their lives. Loki was unsure if he could trust him too, but didn’t want to take the risk of him being right. And Sylvia’s reasons for killing He Who Remains was understandable because he stole her from her timeline and she was a little girl and then erased it from existence. And Sylvie had to spend her whole life living in apocalypses and natural disasters watching thousands if not millions of people die. She had to grow up in them just to prevent the TVA from tracking her. I could really sympathize and relate with this character and I didn’t need to watch any extended media just to understand a sight of her pain. Parts I did like about Sylvie her wanting a simple life. Going to 1980s Oklahoma and working at a McDonalds may not be my ideal choice, but the fact that she could have gone away and instead chose a simple life really adds depth to her character. Then when her timeline started falling apart, she realized the consequences of her actions and got on board to reform the TVA instead of tearing it down. And that’s why I consider Sylvie to be one of the best modern female MCU characters.💚
Controversial take, but a fair one. Haven't watched Loki season one for a while, so I might rewatch it just to see how good/bad it is now. I remember watching it and thinking it was okay, but it was also during the hype just after Endgame when almost anything was seen as good/passable if it came from Marvel.
Proble is that the show and Loki himself outright say "AhH yOuR'e AmAzInG" While simultaneously having Loki literally be kicked in the crotch over and over again. It feels forced on how they try to make her that #BossBitch and have no problem dunking on Loki, the SUPPOSED to be PROTAGONIST
Oddly enough, I do not need a character that is my EXACT body type, gender, religion, socioeconomic background and sexual orientation to feel engaged in a story. In fact I'm ALREADY ME so I don't really need stories about that, I come to art in various forms to experience things OUTSIDE of myself. Now try explaining this to a corporation getting DEI money. It's almost like their goal is the MONEY. Weird, huh?
you know whats funny? I actually wanted scarlet witch to get her kids back in Dr strange just because I liked the idea of her getting her family back more than I did the idea of america chavez continuing to live. It was still a bad movie.
As a basketball American, I couldn't stand Black Panther and only went because a work buddy paid for it. I can't stand being pandered to, it happens so much that I am close to enraged and disgusted when it occurs. Representation is garbage, my brothers come in all colors.
I watched almost all of the first 3 phases in the MCU in theater. I did see quite a few women: 1) with their dates (husbands, boyfriends, etc) and 2) with their sons (often chaperoning a group of preteen boys). Not once did I see a "group" of women enter any theater. At any given viewing I would guess the audience of all the ones I attended to be about 65% male.
From the very first avengers movie, I was very much looking forward to a black widow movie where they finally explained what happened with her and Hawkeye in Budapest. That movie at that time would have done insanely well.
Any sane person would see how Marvel Comics has absolutely nosedived in quality and sales and know that it is not something to emulate in a cinematic universe. And yet, Disney and Kevin Feige think it is a good idea to drop a quarter of a billion dollars on every failed character who couldn't even sell 20k issues a month and/or keep a series going past 12 issues.
At an accelerated rate too. Not like they had blueprints and hindsights explaining in detail the shortcomings of characters like the New/Young Avengers, Kamala Kahn, Ironheart, Ironlad, Wiccan, Hulkling, Amadeus Cho, Captain Marvel, Silk, Lady Thor, etc. They had a decade and a half of notes and they ignored all of it. It should be no real surprise they're crashing and burning now.
It wasn't that long ago. Marvel Comics' quality nosedived in 2015 with they did their "All New, All Different Marvel" initiative. At that time DC was killing it with "Rebirth"...so naturally they decided to push diversity and inclusion with "Infinite Frontier" and killed the remaining interest of a whole bunch of fans.

True! And now we will never know what went down in Budapest.
when Avengers first came out, I started writing a fanfiction about when Clint found Natasha, but I lost interest when the "canon" ended up going in this direction. It was so disappointing.

As a green person with tentacles as hair, I’m glad to see someone like me finally respresented on screen in a superhero movie that gives me the delusion that I can fly and lift mountains. Thanks marvel
Safe to say, i'll never go back and i won't be subjecting my son to the shit they're pushing in Phase 5.
Well said.
Respect🙏🏾
Its sad how backwards we've gone as a society, obsessing so much over superficial diversity. No one cared about this nonsense in the 90s and we had much better Black films then. Because they put entertainment first and just happened to have black leads.
Now its token representation first and no thought at all put into entertaining the audience.
The issue is no one ever cared, ever.
The 90s was the sweet spot. Leftists brought back judging based on skin color. We'll hit the sweet spot again, but since the pendulum was given so much energy it's gonna swing right through that.

Agreed 100%
I feel the same way when Hollywood remakes (a.k.a. ruins) a foreign film/show/anime.
Spoilers for anyone who has not watched these shows/movies
Mizu from Blue Samurai is a perfect example of a female lead that fits right into the narrative it's trying to tell, it also manages to strike that perfect balance of having her be an extremely capable fighter who can kick ass but not someone who is invincible at all times.

What's even more insulting is that they completely dismiss all the genres that heavily feature these people because, to them, Hollywood blockbusters are the only movies in existence
It's very insulting. It's obvious that the only thing they care about is the person's skin color, or their gender.

I'm starting to think that they only do that when they know the movie will be trash. If the movie were good, they would be talking about the plot of the film
I love it when black women who spend ten hours a week in a hair salon, start wittering on about their "natural hair".
Black Widow was a movie I had looked forward to. I wanted to see her in a smart spy thriller. Definitely not what we got.
Yeah, they could have made that movie like winter soldier (best mcu movie) and had a cool spy thriller. Oh no, the message is more important. The whole taskmaster reveal was such a joke.
Had that movie not been called Black Widow and wasn't connected to the marvel brand it could've been a great movie
@@BiggieTrismegistusthat's exactly how I felt about that line. It was so contrived and cringey.
I actually liked the Black Widow movie she played her part very well...she wasn't a hard faced tomboy who thought she had no faults.
Best scene in Endgame was when Thanos used an infinity stone to punch Ms. Marvel out of the battle. THAT scene gave me some hope they were self aware enough not to ruin MCU with woke politics. Sadly, I was wrong.
Crapstain Malvel.
sadly you didn't read between the lines...first you had Thanos BEATING Hulk with no use of any powers or any of the Infinity gems, just his bare hands in Infinity Wars...but in End Game, he needed one of the gem's powers to beat Captain Meh-vel? MOMENT I heard that, I knew they were going down that slippery slope and make the women start showing up the men
Yup. That infinity stone was known specifically as the 'gender equality' stone.
All the women coming to help Peter Parker (Spider-Man, one of the strongest characters in Marvel's history) play football with a gauntlet felt manufactured.
@@UltLuigi1the she's not alone, was better in infinity war compared to endgames
This is such a well done piece of criticism, both of Marvel and of studio politics in general. Really on point and very well explained.
Well, it helps that EEAAO is just fantastic, way more funny, way more interesting and way more emotional
A pro all woman movie, made by women to appeal to women feminists did not bring out enough woman to watch it. And men thought this movie was not aimed at them. The box office speaks for itself.
2:30: What do fictional characters have to do with race and gender politics. Disney quit killing our heroes
My daughter watched this with me and she said these studios want more women to watch but don’t understand what women want to see in a super hero film. She said guys want to see Thor save the day and imagine they are Thor and women want to see Thor save the day, with his shirt off, and image they are his girlfriend.
Reminds me of the quote attributed to James Bond. "the men want to be him, the women want to be with him."
all the wokes are just anti-human. if you wanna make them freak out, make them watch old movie about human nature like "Swept Away" (1974) (avoid the madonna remake at ALL costs). the story of a blue collar man and a wealthy woman stranded on a island
Exactly.
Based.
I agree, Kate was relatable and likable and respected an already great character.
They wrote that one pre-wokefest.
Still can't believe they did that naked shot of Chris Hemsworth in Thor 4 for laughs. If that was Jane Foster, could you imagine! So fked up.

We saw a Japanese film, with Japanese actors, with elements of Japanese culture and we call it one of the best films of the year.
plus the film has a lot of Messages and none bother us.

Exactly.
They are pushing a female audience, yet not giving them anything they want.
One note, "women are not really allowed to be villains" Hela would beg to differ. Certainly one of the best villains in the entire MCU.
Especially since she looked and acted as a asgardian and not a thug with fake grills
I don't think that would count since it was before phase 4
The high evolutionary was the best villain by far
I agree. Every male in the MCU has appeared shirtless- how about the females? Nope.
And that's a real problem.
For me anyways..
Disney just uses the same female character builds and personalities repeatedly. No appeal and they're just lame.

Besides the main point, but whenever I hear the phrase "I am Asian", my mind instantly replies: "No, you're not, you're American".
No those people are asian
My mind retorts with, "I didn't know ethnicity was a personality trait."

I do like the way she says she picks roles on the basis of how much hair she can put on screen. Has she considered playing a wookie?
I feel like if what she said was true they wouldn’t give half the women a boys haircut.

Proble is that the show and Loki himself outright say "AhH yOuR'e AmAzInG"
While simultaneously having Loki literally be kicked in the crotch over and over again.
It feels forced on how they try to make her that #BossBitch and have no problem dunking on Loki, the SUPPOSED to be PROTAGONIST
I always wanted the Black Widow film to be more around her and Hawkey in Budapest.
"I felt seen. Like, right down to my core".
That, young lady, is a pap smear.
Can we get back to movie entertainment now?
Thank you for the work you do. It’s lovely knowing I’m not alone in seeing “The Message” in almost everything now.
'Almost"? Is practically everywhere. They have inherited our planet.
@beskarman38 you're right it seems absolutely everything is infected with this garbage
3:38 that fake laughter is creepy to see, the way Brie just switches it off
As a basketball American, I couldn't stand Black Panther and only went because a work buddy paid for it.
The MCU also has a Majors problem.
From the very first avengers movie, I was very much looking forward to a black widow movie where they finally explained what happened with her and Hawkeye in Budapest. That movie at that time would have done insanely well.
I'm truly amazed how well the MCU's fall parallels the issues in their comics 10-15 years earlier.
Did Woomen even ask for any of this?
Did it ever occur to Disney that Women actually like Male Superheroes
