I prefer the Fanstoys paint, but that's it The lower body is problematic and I don't like the double wing panels. So for me the price doesn't justify the upgrade. DX9 is the better overall figure IMO. Agree with your comparison.
I just got my FT Powerglides today. After transforming one of them and understanding how things need to go, I really didn’t mind it. It didn’t piss me off! Lol so yeah I love it! It’s a win for me!
That's also a huge problem I've seen with many different reviewers. They all have a subjective opinion about how complex a transformer should be, and they seem to not consider that there are people who might like a more streamlined or more involved transformation.
I'm such a fan of the A-10 would love to see a 3rd party go all in on a realistic looking military version of the A-10 transformer and make it an original character of their own.
Extremely fair, and the frustration you encountered while simply articulating him really highlights how FT fell down here. Powerglide is the one G1 toy I carried almost everywhere with me and I still have him to this day... I really wanted FT to be a great upgrade from DX9. It LOOKS good but half the point of these figures is handling and transforming them.
I have the DX9 and it does still hold up really well after all these years. I'd have thought the FT would have done a great Powerglide. Great comparison video!
Very honest and objective review! I also thought FT would usually win in many of the categories in these verses. I'm happy with my DX-9 so I'll pass on this FT
I like my DX9 fine and I'm excited to get my FT when it arrives. I had assumed I would just leave Wartog in alt mode mostly but now I don't know. I always found Richthofen felt cheap. So, I think I'll just have to get them both in hand in both modes and decide which will stay as what and probably never change them for years. Thanks for the review!
Fanstoys simps are gonna be gunning for you! Joking aside, I think it's only fair to call out issues when they have them. Everyone is always so critical of other manufacturers. While I think the engineering on this is really ambitious, there isnt any excuse for the lack of hardware and the paint matching.
Thanks for the review, I don't own DX9 and never was impressed enough to jump for that figure. I actually like the way the FansToys one looks in both modes a lot. I do like to transform my bots but I don't do it very often and mostly I just enjoy looking at the ones I own. In this case FansToys came through for me and ai am looking forward fo getting mine soon. ShowZ is slower but the prices are also always a little bit lower. Happy to wait an extra few weeks and save ten dollars. By the way six years ago everything was way cheaper. Inflation for eggs, meat, milk, etc has increased by 73% alone. Gas is off the chart now. DX9 figures that are old are selling close to the same amount as FansToys Warthog right now. It is really hard to even compare these on that basis right now.
@@RarebitFiends I am thankful for the KO market. Frequently they fix the problems that were inherent with the original versions and actually make better copies.
@@TheShadowKarlNot in this case as the DX9 version is far superior. Maybe if the DX9 started off with cheap parts but, that's not the case so the KO version is actually quite a bit cheaper, both in terms of money and quality.

Interesting comparison friend, knowing how disappointing this figure is for so many. Glad you were able to provide a fair offering between the two options (three if you include the poorly toleranced Pocket Toys KO of the DX9..which has worse knees than the FT in regards to tolerance and near zero paint.) Knowing your preference in regards to this company, it's refreshing to hear someone actually call out FT failures, because it will only help improve future releases..at least I hope so knowing how poor FT community feedback is/has been. If only the blind devotees who will never say anything negative are the only ones heard..who knows what people would get in return While some items are minor, as you mentioned about the paint..which you said, once you saw it it was hard to not see, There are clearly areas where one expected some consistent elements to ensure stability, and were not included. If someone is a box to shelf collector who doesn't do anything beyond looking at it and that fits their "Definitive" mindset....you win. But for those, like yourself, who like to pose, manipulate, transform, etc..actually play with their toys...then yes, this is lacking that fun factor that DX9 has in spades. I'm sure those who are pulling pitchforks out against those being critical will quickly forget once the next release or repaint is provided. As you said, this is one of the few remaining companies that are constant in providing some sort of collectable product for those who are tied to the TOON to a fault ascetic.
I'll contest that two things can be true at the same time. I can agree with your critiques, and feel somewhat disappointed with FT, while simultaneously enjoying this figure. I love the look and the alt mode is amazing, but that might be my bias for the A-10. I don't have the DX9 and it's currently more expensive than Warthog. However, if I ever do get the chance to buy the DX9 ft-54 might be the only FT I own that would stay in atl mode...... Great video. 👍
Not a surprising result since I could tell from your FT review you were pretty down on the figure. This is definitely the first time I disagree with you on multiple categories. Getting the FT figure today I’m very happy with it. I think the issues people have with the paint discoloration is overblown. Under normal lights I can’t see what you can see under review lighting. The FT red pops compared to the duller DX9 red. The DX9 robot mode never looked good to me either and this versus made that even more apparent. Obviously this is just my opinion and if people love their DX9 then I completely understand and I’m happy for them. The good thing is we all have options. I’m guessing you’ll eventually stick with the DX9 but I guess we’ll have to wait and see in your next collection tour. I appreciate all you do to get these versus out so thanks TM!
Thanks Wiskey, I do think the paint looks good overall, I was going to tie them on paint but the inconsistency is hard to unsee once seen. Which other category would you have changed? I'm just curious
Right there with you on this Whiskey. I think Paint should definitely be going to FansToys. For me those differences in panels for the reds was actually nice to see. It looked like they did it intentionally the way model builders do for ships and planes because that is how these things frequently look in the real world. Panels on planes are frequently getting replaced and/or repainted on military jets. Also different materials weather differently especially depending on which sides for rained on and where the panels are located around the jet engines and how air moves around it in flight. I also thought alt mode was a hands down take for FansToys. Regardless of how hard it was to get there the mass shift and accuracy of the aircraft and the fact you could place a figure in the cockpit were all too much to discount. I have seen multiple reviews for this and in all cases I thought the alt mode was beautiful. I also thought the bot mode was better looking overall. Just the details on the outside of his forearms alone were better sculpted and more accurate and there were other places too where it just gets better for FansToys. I think expectations didn't match what they thought it was going to be and many reviewers are knocking this figure harder than normal. I agree the engineering on the bottom was WAY too complicated and frustrating but man the engineering for the arms, wings and upper body looked so cool in the reviews. I was actually impressed with this half and it did look fun. The bottom half is what seems to be frustrating most people. It is a shame. I think they really need to have testers look at these products before mass production to give them feedback like this review so they can undergo additional updates before they ship. It seems like they didn't do enough of that with this figure. It needed a couple more iterations before it went to market.
I disagree that the paint issue was exaggerated. In reality, I believe FT should not have tried something like that on this particular figure, which has an incredibly limited color palette, particularly on the red. Also, saying the robot mode didn't look good to you is incredibly subjective, as they are both the most accurate renditions of this character on the market. That's the work of the G1 animation designers, not the toy manufacturer who has to deal with their cartoon inconsistencies. Also, you didn't say why it seemed off to you.Other than the specific primary glossy red, I don't believe there were any actual major improvements to the FT version; contrary, it was made overly complex, and yet it failed for it. DX9's execution will be extremely difficult to match; even if FT opts for a 2.0, this will be their second try to improve in order to defeat their prior version and DX9's version. On a personal note, I prefer the Xtransbots Neptune over the 2.0 Drift version. FT is no longer an automatic win, at least not as much as it once was.
I don't know. I get the point system but it doesn't always tell the whole story. In each category it can be extremely close, or it can be totally one sided, but the score is the same either way. I almost feel like giving one point for a close victory and two points for a beat down would give a more complete picture.
I watched Skullface transform the Fanstoys. YIKES! Super frustrating! Im sticking with my 25 euro dx9 ko. Transformation on that is actually enjoyable...
I still prefer the FT. I will be displaying him opening his chest up and for that, the FT definitely takes it. Also I never got the DX9. DX9 no longer exists and the people who bought the factory are only getting rid of existing inventory and I don't think Richthofen was amoung that. A brand new DX9 now is a lot more than $75. It is $67.99+$49.99 shipping on ebay so $117.98 about the same price. You can get the KO pretty cheap though
I really wanted Fans Toys Powerglide but, as I was ordering and getting ready to check out, it sold out. Now, I'm kind of glad as I'll be sticking with my DX9 Powerglide. I'm afraid that the feet portion of Fans Toys will loosen over time and if it's not diecasts, could possibly break as it looks thin in the video.

I wouldn't say DX9's is so good that it stands up to a more current, given that the more current figure is too ambitious for its own good. It turns into a realistic A-10 Warthog, which is an incredible achievment. I doubt any company could pull that off much better. Fans Toys should've compromised is all, if not go for the toom alt mode like they do with other characters, which is far easier to do wo with a similarly shaped bot.

I was hoping that this FT Warthog would be great but sadly base on this review its not. I'll be sticking with my DX9 for now. I hope XTB will have a better PowerGlider
Can't believe you didn't mention the off center head gun when talking about accuracy. Biggest thing that stands out as incorrect on the FT figure. Really looks weird to me.
Damn first fanstoys disappointing release imo for me. Was looking forward to replacing dx9 since to me it doesn’t stack up to current MP standards in minibots but this guy is a bit of a dud. Darn it, was looking forward to this, oh well
damn this sucks,...because to me, the bot mode of FT looks WAY better. But the jet mode of DX9 looks more like the cartoon. Damn. And what's with FT not including the woman!? Especially when they are second to market.

I transformed my Motormaster maybe twice, he’s a nightmare. Springer, bad dream. Tesla 2.0 is a lot of fun. I have my figures posed as well but from time to time I mess with them. That Powerglide, for the right price, will stay in robot mode. That’s what I meant by display.
It’s a bunch of nit picking with fanstoys and I have seen in other videos you have gave other companies a pass for and points so going forward I want to see the same criticism for others not having ratchets difference paint coloring and loose joints… because it seems no matter what fanstoys do it’s always something wrong with a figure and without them no one else is giving us G1 characters from the same company.. so take them out the game and let’s see how fun collecting really is
Did you watch the final thoughts? Nobody says take FT out , and I am keeping this figure because I like it. Just didn't win the comparison
No I don’t mean take fanstoys out far as a figure… I’m talking about in general take fanstoys out far a company and let’s see how fun it will be to collect they are the only consistent company that is given the stuff that’s what I mean
Most consistent company out there
When you command a higher price point, you also open yourself up to more criticisms - it's not nit picking. As the $ goes up, so does the bar
@@VinnyRed how are they are at a higher price point when they use paint , ratchets, and the best packaging… things cost I don’t see why ppl cry about price when y’all are only buying one figure things are not cheap shipping is getting expensive so is materials … so you are getting the best quality for your money
