The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the premier late night talk show on CBS, airing at 11:35pm EST, streaming online via Paramount+, and delivered to the International Space Station on a USB drive taped to a weather balloon. John’s consistently my favorite guest on Colbert because it always feels like two old friends getting each other’s opinions on recent events and just laughing about it (Yes I know they worked together on The Daily Show.)

I'm a British student currently studying in the US, and I fake an American accent SO MUCH. It's just easier to get through a brief interaction with no 'do I hear a British accent??!?' reactions.

One of my coworkers is from London but moved to the US with her mom when she was 14, she's in her late 20s now and sounds just like me. My friend's wife is from Kent and she's been here for like 6 or 7 years, but she sounds hardcore British and can't fake an American accent worth a damn hahaha

My husband became a citizen this year also. He voted today for the first time. I am so proud!!
For over 30 years, I've always voted by mail, in WA state. Can't imagine how inconvenient going out to vote must be!

It depends where you live. I turned 30 in 2019, and before that I always voted in person. I live in a small town so no long lines but I can't imagine waiting in line for hours to cast a ballot.
I'm in the UK and vote by mail .our elections are held on Thursdays. I go to the pub on Thursdays

If it's organised in such a way that there are lots of polling places, distributed evenly to be close to where voters live, it's not very inconvenient.
But that's where election day means we have to vote for one person, or one group. In USA so many jobs are elected positions that you always seem to be voting for at least 27 races all at once, so of course it takes time, and it creates lines.
I wish that we could get an entire hour of John hanging out with Steven.
I love the idea that there are people in America who met John Oliver out in the wild but did not notice because he spoke like slowed down John Wayne.

As an Australian who lived in the Midwest for a year, I found myself doing the same thing - especially when giving my name, which has an 'R' in it which we don't pronounce (i.e 'non-rhotic'). Spelling it didn't help, because when I said 'R' as 'ah', they asked '...eye???' They thought I was a Southerner.

I love Colbert as a British citizen and respect his views on what's happening in my country politically as well as his own over the pond. I really consider John Oliver a national treasure and consider a better UK rep then Corden was

John Oliver's American accent in the Horne Section was completely spot on.
If Sunak can outlast a head of lettuce, he'll be doing better than the last one.
Technically he lost to Truss who lost to the lettuce, so he is currently 3rd place to the lettuce.
He might cling off to the title but he has already failed.

When I became an American citizen many many years back I also loved my right to vote. But nothing brought me more joy than the mail in vote. I get super excited as I get it and take my time😁😁
British people doing an American accent always crack me up. It never sounds exactly like how someone here sounds but more like something from a very old movie. Kind of like a vampire using cowboy films to pass as human.
Hugh Laurie has an amazing American accent. I had no idea he was British.

I think John Oliver's accent has already shifted to a much more subtle British Accent after many years of living in the States. I didn't even really notice his accent when listening to his shows in Canada. But now that I'm in the UK, I've realized how difficult it can be to understand some people's British accents.
I love how excited John gets when he finds something funny. Also he is correct about Truss and the Queen it's a FACT.

Even after the Scot had repeated himself thrice, the Kiwi didn't have the foggiest idea what he had said. Someone had to translate, and the Scot seemed mystified as to why.

When I first came to the US, I was on the phone once trying to get the address to a place, and the person just COULD NOT understand my British accent. And I had a very BBC news sort of accent. I had to resort to an exaggerated American accent to make them understand.
