launch control, you have to put one foot on brake fully down and one on throttle fully down, then release brake pedal and boom. as long as you set up launch control properly you all good. bearing in mind a Golf R has a maximum number of launches before its permenantly disabled and that is 350 launches. trust me i own a few golf R's, this is to protect the engine and if you do the 350 launches your engine will last only 5 to 10 years at best. you were also not waiting for the dsg to pick up as its a wet clutch and very efficient, what you experienced was turbo lag as not using launch control will not spool up the turbo so you had to wait for it to spool once you set off. My Golf R Mk7.5 is remapped and does 0-60 in about 3.9 seconds without even using launch control.
@@TheCinderellaman10 Went with an FR 190 ST instead with the 7 speed DSG box. It's used for business also so I will leave it as it is for now then possibly get a remap and some other bits to get it to high 200's once the warranty expires :)
Fast, practical? Yep. But "for a petrolhead" (or at least a great many of us) 4-cylinders just don't quite cut it... Superior execution to yesteryear undeniably, but theres just something inherently plain Jane about a 4-pot
Brilliant car - it’s just the theft risk. I’d probably go for the 3 door hatch and put up with the inconvenience as the crims will want 4 doors (estate or hatch).
You can’t get 40mpg. 35 if you take it very easy in mixed driving. I get 31 mpg with mixed driving and occasional hoon. It’s pretty good on the motorway if you keep below 90. Terrible around town. Like I’ve seen 17mpg just pottering in city 😂. Great car though
Great video. O-60mph time very similar to that Merc you drove! That's mad from a 2.0 turbo. I've just remapped my 330d e90 and that's pushing just over 300bhp. Having not driven a Golf R I'm betting my BMW has more soul😊
@@ShiftingMetal its a lot of fun. I'm only down the road in Langport. If you want to feature it on your channel let me know. Be great to see what the draggy time is.
I have a Seat Leon ST 300 . More or less the same car but a bit cheaper to buy ! They really are quick cars but can also return 35mpg or 40mpg on a motorway journey .

Golf R estate might be a bit too much but then my 6-8k annual mileage doesn't justify a GTD. Wish they did a GTI estate
Get a cupra 280 estate, they were fwd and had the same cjx golf r engine and a good spec is still cheaper then the r estate and better looking

It’s very impressive but I bet the torque and RWD from the 330d makes it more fun

When launched properly they are 4.5ish.
With a stage 1 map; 3.8..

i bought a golf r est 7.5 and lov it lol .
What’s the reliability like? Get a bad wrap in Australia! with reliability issues
I do love the golf r but they are known to be stollen and used for robberies
I swear I know those roads from our holidays in burnham on sea am I right ?
You are!
@@ShiftingMetal some really nice roads around there if your brave enough

my one has digital dash and better sat nav .
mk7.5 R then, also has the facelift front bumper. i own one also. kinda wish they kept the analouge dials though, they look better imo.
@@mattg768 i like the digital but analogue form but you can change it matt lol just plug in your obd scanner lol
