      Thanks for watching and reaching out! Yes, every person has their own needs and wants based on their life situations. Lindsay's hope is that she can help others see how it's possible to continue to live a "normal life" even when things aren't normal. Hope you're able to find those solutions outside the box that keep you on the pursuit of the Abundant Life!

    You guys have really nailed it. Your tour was very informative, thorough and really demonstrated what it is like to seriously live full time in a camper. Many touches most people would never probably think of, the roll-up bathroom door, the wooden grid under the bed to prevent mold, the subway tile in the kitchen, etc. Every square inch is utilized. Excellent presentation and thanks for your effort and for the references where to purchase your upgrades. Thank you for mentioning the price point of your rig, it's a good baseline when we go shopping to know there are some great bargains available. Also, the nod to Ikea was helpful (they should sponsor you!). Ikea may want to create a section just for RVers, they would make a fortune. Thanks again.

    Thank you for sharing your tiny home with us. We use the space above our bedroom windows to hang our hats. We also use the ceiling to hang our fishing rods. We have a fifth wheel but making our bed is difficult too. Just last year I had an happy accident. I was too tired to make the bed so I just folded the sheet and comforter then layed it across the bottom. I layed the decorative throw across it then tossed the sham pillows in place. When I looked back I realized it looked just as pretty as if I had struggled to make it. So now.. that's all I do. So much easier. Don't know why it too me so long to figure that one out. Lol. Happy travels.

    • @CalledToWander

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have a receiver hitch for both the front and the back, which we wired for the winch. We used to carry our bikes on the front receiver hitch and store the winch when we were not offroad. Then we mounted the winch on the front and put the bikes on the camper ladder rack. Definitely need a receiver hitch to accommodate the variables in carrying things!

    How did you find a used truck camper so cheap and did it have a lot of problems like leaking?

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We did some thorough shopping for what we wanted in terms of camper models. Then we got “lucky” by finding the model we wanted just down the road from us. We’ve seen cheaper ones, but like all things, you get what you pay for. And yes, we did have some water damage we had to repair. And in the course of our first year in the road we had to repair almost every gas appliance (small parts, not replacing the appliance itself). But that is to be expected with an older used camper

    Okay, you guys need to give lessons on how to do a tour video of a camper. Very informative, just a good quality video. I truly mean that. Great job😊.
    We love love love your decor choices, especially your tile and your idea of using wood like wallpaper is very cool, you guys have a beautiful home.❤️
    I'm definitely going to take your advice on your storage solutions with our truck camper, very helpful. However your solution, when it comes to your bathroom door, absolutely blew my mind🤯. That is my biggest complaint when it comes to our brand new truck camper. That door drives me nuts. It's always in the way, it's a huge inconvenience. So, as soon as I get done writing you this message, I'm getting on Ikea and ordering one immediately.😂
    Even though our camper is new, I also believe I'm going to take your advice. To take a little time living with our truck camper, but eventually making it our own. Maybe painting, definitely adding our own personal touches. And oh Chris, your cabinet door edition for your old microwave cabinet is absolutely gorgeous. I ordered our camper, with no microwave, can't see myself ever using one. We love the addition of the metal work in your cabinet door, it gives your kitchen a lot of character. Great job. Actually, great job to both of you. You both have created a beautiful home.❤️
    Thank you for the great video, and thank you for the helpful inspiration. Safe travels to you both, and we're looking forward to seeing you next video.😁

      Crohn’s disease? That's great news! My naturopath turned me on to a new medication by a company called Tesseract. There's this weird stuff that your body makes from fiber. Your colon uses it as a fuel that it uses both to heal and do it's job. It's called Butryic acid. Up till now they haven't been able to put it in a capsule since people would barf it up. They figured out a way to make it time release recently and man what a difference it's made for me.
      I have a different problem from yours but once of my cancer medications causes much the same symptoms as Crohn’s disease. I take 600mg a day. The blood stopped. This is a vast improvement.

    2003, we built our latest ExpeditionVehicle.
    I fabricated a metal bed frame over our flip-top crates storage.
    The mattress lays on 'expanded' metal, similar to stout window-screen.
    For ventilation -- irregardless of weather or season -- we open windows on opposing walls.
    To reduce interior humidity, we cook and shower outside.
    Summers are up rough logger tracks to remote mountain lakes, winters on isolated Baja beaches.
    If the weather turns too wet too long, our caravan can usually agree to move.

    The location of the bed in these campers invites mold, very informative on how to prevent moisture from collecting underneath your mattress. Your transparency about rot and how you cured the ill. Thanks. We did have 1 dog when we started and got a second "COVID baby," both Australian Cattle Dogs. We sold the truck camper in fall of 2020 so can't really update on this. But this camper had a standard black tank and grey tank with a wet bath so the toilet was in the shower, but the plumbing fo the toilet and shower were separate. In our new motorhome (1999 Class C) we built a modified composting toilet so we divert the urine into the black tank and have the grey tank for shower and sink.

    I have an older Lance 945 Squire camper on a 1997 F250 HD with the Legendary 7.3 Power Stroke as well!! A truly incredible engine and truck! I like leaving the inverter accessible like you did... but instead of running wires throughout, I wired my inverter straight to the electric box so all of the outlets around the camper - inside and out - are energized. I also have to get something under my mattress as well. That was a super idea and cost effective too - I had mold under my mattress as well. Love your channel!

If you don’t mind me asking, what are the medications you take that you are able to get enough to go on long trips with? I get infusions every four weeks, which is my main concern regarding long term travel. I would love to know how you manage your Crohn’s on the road!

      Courtney Delaney Hi Courtney! I was getting remicade infusions every 8 weeks in 2018 when we traveled through the United States. I was able to receive my infusions out of state. I would research that and see if your insurance would cover an infusion center that’s nation wide. I used Coram who is owned by CVS and has infusions centers in almost every state. But I’m a Florida resident and also heard that fl health insurance is better for out of state coverage. Still though, I’d research it!
      I actually quit taking remicade last year as the long term side effects were becoming unbearable. I now take a medication called low dose naltrexone that I get refilled every 6 months. If I can help answer any other questions shoot me a message!! 😁

    Suggestions or idea's ? my goodness no. I am in awe of how co-ordinated and beautifully you have used every space available. Things aren't just put in space to get them out of the way, on the contrary you have things in spaces where you need them for ease of access. Your tour was complete and informative and I can't think of anything you missed. I love the removal of the bathroom door and the roll-up bambo curtain.
    I have had an old motorhome, 2 5th wheels and now a pull behind travel trailer I live in full time. I traveled from N.J. to Arizona back in the 80's in a truck camper my 1rst wife owned, and it did great.
    I have seen the winds of Wyoming, Colorado and the Dakota's and figured it could be scary with a truck camper being so top heavy and narrow based. This is where I would figure a dually would give more stability. Have you and Chris ever experienced heavy wind issues?
    Super nice video and great job. I was riveted to the video from start to finish.
    Best of wishes to you both for a super future.

We had some really rough wind coming across the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma. And again in central Wyoming outside of Lander. The truck held up well and we don't know whether the dually would have helped or not. We just went slow and steady and kept an eye on the weather before driving into winds that we knew we could not handle.

      Not sure exactly what you mean by that. But if you have a 2 or 3-way there should be a knob to switch between. Propane is usually most efficient. If you have shore power then 110V AC is great to save on the propane. And we don't advise running on 12V DC for standard RV fridges unless you have one with low power draw. They're notorious for draining your battery bank. Hope that helps!

    Love the mods. I have almost the same camper but I'm only just starting out. Getting it ready to snowbird south as well.
    I've got nearly the same camper except it's one of the earlier metal frame campers. It's very dated looking inside but I'm more concerned with getting it ready to roll. As of today I think it's ready.
    Yeah, I had a wood camper before and it had horrible rot. I had to demolish it. That's what attracted me to this metal frame unit. It's heavy though, 3500.
    So how do you keep the mice from crawling up on your axles and chewing on wiring? I've got some caster oil around here. I wonder if that would do it?

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were able to repair the wood rot relatively easily. But it's nice to know you don't have to worry about it. As for mice, we've never had an issue. We've heard of places to camp/not to camp where this is an issue. We were told to pop the hood to let the engine cool off quickly since a lot of times the critters are attracted to the warmth of the engine. But again, we've not had that issue.

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and reach out! We had 1 pup at the time of that video. Now we have 2... and have just remodeled our new (1999) Class C RV. Having owned both, it really depends on what kind of life on the road you want. The TC is definitely better equipped for some mild offroad adventures on BLM land. But we have SO much more room with the class C. For us, the room for an actual office so we can work on the road was important in this season of our lives. But for you, the mobility of a Class B is nice (but really small space) and the ruggedness of a TC could be great. As for the fridge, we filmed this video when we were staying with friends for a few weeks and they kindly let us stay in their home and borrow space in their fridge! =)

      @@CalledToWander Thanks! I guess the best part of having a truck camper is having 4 wheel drive? What kind of class c do you have?

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dianediane1245 We used 4wd maybe 4 times in 3 years. It's more about being compact and rugged. We were 24' long and could handle dirt roads that required higher clearance. We have a 1999 Shasta Cheyenne. It's 31' with dual rear wheels. Even though we put all-terrain tires on it we'll still be much more careful taking it only a few miles down some dirt roads we enjoy. The TC handled dirt roads (can you say Dalton Highway?!!) like a champ. But yes, 4wd is a nice option if you know how to use it and don't mind digging yourself out if you get stuck somewhere you thought you could go! We have always been conservative about our offroad adventures!
