It’s pretty cool that Chris Mason got credited with a goalie goal for the Predators and then he was on the TV call for Pekka’s goal last night. It makes the Preds the only NHL organization to ever have two goalies score.
I remember when ozzy made that goal I was watching that game. I was so proud to be a redwings fan. ozzy was my favorite goalie. I miss those days. Even Stanley the octopus was proud of Osgood. 🥅🏒
Ron Hextall, Chris Osgood, Martin Brodeur, José Théodore, Evgeni Nabokov, Mike Smith, and Pekka Rinne are in one of the most elite clubs in the NHL. They are the only goaltenders in the entire history of the NHL to ever directly score a goal by shooting the puck on net.
I play hockey myself and yet I only found out about this from today's episode of "Wonderful!". Griffin was right, Martin Brodeur's 4ft vertical leap celebration is just as wholesome as I hoped it would be.
Brodeur's third one is funny because the other goalie had not yet left the ice (actually tried to get back and stop the puck), so it wasn't credited as an empty netter.
I always found it funny that in Hextalls postgame thing he says, "Tell Billy Smith, this one's for real". To whit I'm certain Battlin Billy just chuckled and replied, "Yeah, like my 4 rings, junior".
It's great to see that this amazing feat was done 15 times-plus, for those Sabre fans outside of Buffalo who never knew-little-known Mika Noronen once did this!
In 1987 Bob Froese of the Rangers was credited with a goal against the Islanders for about a week until the league reviewed video and concluded that Rangers defenseman Dave Shaw last touched the puck before the Islanders Brent Sutter sent it down ice into the Islanders net. But for a few days Froese had a goal... This set off a bit of a stir where the press started prodding goalies and speculating which goalie had the ability to actually shoot and score a goal on an empty net... In turn some NHL, AHL and at the college level all started taking liberties and began shooting down ice late in games. Darcy Wakaluk of the Sabres scored in the AHL a couple of days after the NHL wiped out Bob Froese’s goal. The press basically turned its focus on the Flyers Ron Hextall to score a goal as he had the best stick handling skills in the league and was known for throwing pucks into the opposing end... A few days later Hextall took 2 shots against Boston and met the challenge with the first modern day legit goal scored by an NHL goalie... But for about a week in December ‘87 you’d be crazy not to watch a game until the very end when fans would start roaring for the goalie to shoot any time he touched the puck with an empty goal about 200 feet away.
I was at the game Hextall scores against the Capitals. The best puck handling goalie of all time for my money and the only guy with two actual goals scored.
I love how half of them can choose to literally lift and fly the puck down past center sometimes the other blue line it is unreal but oh man they do it
You can see how much hockey has changed. In the older clips you can see the opposing team still cheer for the goalie but when Pekka Rinne scored people started walking out or booing or just sitting there like idiots not realizing that something special has happened.
Man, just in the nick of time, too! 0.1 seconds left! And against my home state team, the Detroit Red Wings! I never knew about that goal until watching this video! What a nail-biter!
So is Brodeur the only goalie to score a goal while the opponent's goalie was still on the ice? It wasn't his most impressive one since he didn't shoot it, but it's still a pretty wild stat.
The Gene Hart call of Hextall’s goal was amazing but when he scored the 2nd goal his call of that one was better then do u believe in miracles call by Al Michaels
Kinda crazy two Devils-Canes games, both in Raleigh and less than two years apart, had goalie goals. I was at the one for Ward's goal. The only bummer about it was they did originally credit the goal to Brandon Sutter, which you can hear the announcers wondering about in the clip. It was only afterward that they changed it to Cam. But it was too bad they didn't get to announce Cam's name on the PA and everything; building would've gone nuts.
Mike Smith and The Coyotes with the Goalie Buzzer Beater was amazing, hell, The Bright Blue Spotlight was back on the Goal Scorer (Smith) who did it! (It's rare for the Coyotes to ever have a spotlight on a goal scorer, except for that goal, their days at America West and the Shane Doan retirement year.
Why were these goals included? Billy Smith vs Colorado Martin Bodeur vs Philadelphia Mika Noronen vs Toronto Chris Mason vs Phoenix Cam Ward vs NJ Devils Martin Brodeur vs Carolina They didn't score the goal, they were credited with the goal when opposing players put the puck into their own goal with an errant pass, etc.
Officially the third goal of Martin Brodeur is against the other goalie :) But he was credited of the goal, he didn't shot it. It's also Martin Brodeur that was almost scored by the Pittsburgh's goalie because he go out of the net to get his stick.
Barrasso is still best scorer with 48 pts (0+48) in regular seasons 2. Brodeur 47 (2+45) 3. Fuhr 47 (0+47) in play-offs 1. Fuhr 14 (0+14) 2. Brodeur 13 (1+12) 3. Roy 11 (0+11)
Whoever wrote that little synopsis of the video really stinks at their job (NHL's official TH-cam page??). Brodeur only scored one goal himself, the other goals were credited to him because he was the last Devils player to touch the puck before the other team put it in their own net. Hextall is the only goalie to score multiple times by actually shooting the puck.
In terms of height, if the puck goes over the glass or boards or contacts with something like the JumboTron then the play is considered dead. But in aside from that, in terms of height, it’s in play no matter how high the puck goes
Now we just have to wait 10 years to see the next goalie goal.
Or maybe till Sunday when Andersen will get his second, the first was in your video... I don't know which league
And 10 minutes for you to upload
I think Kahkonen will put one in soon
If you like nhl compilations, she has them. sub to jens95
Pekka
Smith with a buzzer beater is probably my favorite one. Hope Preds raise a banner for Rinne for his goal ;)
Preds do anything for a banner raidr lol, I miss Preds hockey :(
He also almost scored a year before it in the playoffs at home. Would've been the very best goalie goal no doubt about it.
The Nashville Predators are retiring his Jersey / Number this year.
It’s pretty cool that Chris Mason got credited with a goalie goal for the Predators and then he was on the TV call for Pekka’s goal last night. It makes the Preds the only NHL organization to ever have two goalies score.
Commenter McCommentFace and New Jersey
Shafe Din boo Broduer scored both for NJ
Commenter McCommentFace oh yeah, sorry u meant different goalies

Let's all take a moment and appreciate that José Theodore was the only one scoring it with a backhand. Crazy.
That was one awesome backhand.
Am I wrong or is he using a righty curve? So it was the forehand of the stick, he was just holding his stick with the wrong hand on top
@@TH-camsuckz976 you're right but he wasn't, he was a left handed goalie so it was natural for him, i am sad now
Cody S probably not as easy to get the power on it though
J N the only southpaw too
Brodeurs first goal was the best reaction
His smile makes me so happy.
The celebrations are just so heartwarming. I love goalies ♥
they’re all so happy when it happens, jesus i love these with all my heart
Well for sure, a goalie scoring a goal or even an assist is extremely rare and unusual.
Kudos to all these guys, but special kudos to Theodore for hitting the 200 footer with a backhand! Holy mackerel!
An honorable mention to Mike Smith who put it 5 hole at the skills competition in the 2017 All Star Game. What a legend!!!
The Osgood one brings a tear to my eye, Yzerman, Lidstrom and Konstantinov embrace him.
I remember when ozzy made that goal I was watching that game. I was so proud to be a redwings fan. ozzy was my favorite goalie. I miss those days. Even Stanley the octopus was proud of Osgood. 🥅🏒
Legendary players. Legendary moment.

Linus Ullmark joining a very exclusive club.
@@TheShinyFeraligatr and don’t forget Tristan Jarry and Filip Gustavsson
I was in attendance for the game Marty scored in the playoffs against the Habs in 97. What an amazing moment.
Wow, must have been unreal. Talk about witnessing history unfold live!
most of these were just own goals credited for the goalies....
respect for the ones who actually scored!
Pekka Rinne did it

@Donald J. Trump no u
He is still too good right now
Brodeur’s stick handling is so impressive
Linus “Brick Wall” Ullmark just got one today!

Ron hextall has more goals then victor mete in his first season
Yeah, but Ron also had more ice time than him. >u>
I've always loved that the play-by-play announcer predicted the first real goalie goal just before it happened.
It was Fred Cusick, the longtime announcer for the Boston Bruins.
ULLMARK JUST MADE HISTORY!!!!!!
Brodeur's third one is funny because the other goalie had not yet left the ice (actually tried to get back and stop the puck), so it wasn't credited as an empty netter.
Brodeur was so fired up! 😄
Who’s here after the recent Filip Gustavsson goalie goal against the Blues???????
WHO'S HERE AFTER LINUS ULLMARK SCORED A GOAL???
Aren't we all? He deserves every award this year. Vezina, Stanley Cup, President's, Jack Adams, what else?!
I’m not even a Bruins fan (Lightning fan) but his goal puts a HUGE smile on my face :D
I like how this video was probably triggered by Peks' goal last night.
Theres no way it wasn't
Yes
They basically do a video like this on almost every instance of a goalie scoring because it's so rare.
UPDATE: Linus "the Lethal" Ullmark has scored against Vancouver!
The reactions from the Blackhawks fans in that last one are so funny, lol
I always found it funny that in Hextalls postgame thing he says, "Tell Billy Smith, this one's for real". To whit I'm certain Battlin Billy just chuckled and replied, "Yeah, like my 4 rings, junior".

Man, Osgood didn't even look. Just *bam*, pure instinct.

Jose Theodores celly tho. I love it
The reaction from the announcer about Martin Brodeurs goal is almost unforgettable to me.
If this is ever done at The Rock by an opposing tendy, you know damn well I’m given him a standing o. Can’t not acknowledge something like this.
Seeing goalies happy, makes me happy 🥲
I'm most excited to see all the goalies attempt to score a goal for the next few weeks. 😂
You can see how much hockey has changed. In the older clips you can see the opposing team still cheer for the goalie but when Pekka Rinne scored people started walking out or booing or just sitting there like idiots not realizing that something special has happened.
Only Ron Hextall would have the balls to do that in the playoffs.
@@bones343 I think what he meant was Hextall was the FIRST to try it on the playoffs. Brodeur followed the lead eight years later.
Yes, that is risky doing it in the playoffs.
These goalie goals are so cool
Pekka Rinne is too good right now
Jose Theodore did it *on a backhand*
It could be 100 years before that happens again.
Holy smokes, Ron Hextall!

I was actually watching the game Rinne scored
Jumped up so high
I remember Hextall scoring his goal against Boston. I wish this video had the call by the great Gene Hart.
I love how NJ did the same thing twice in two years against the same team
It was more like a team did it against them and then they did it against that team.
I think Igor Shesterkin might be next on this very elite list of goaltenders providing their own offensive contribution to the scoresheet !!
8 shots on goal, 7 awarded own goals. Marty Brodeur with 3, 1 sog, 2 awarded . Ron Hextall with 2, both sog, 0 rewarded.
Why were these goals included?
Billy Smith vs Colorado
Martin Bodeur vs Philadelphia
Mika Noronen vs Toronto
Chris Mason vs Phoenix
Cam Ward vs NJ Devils
Martin Brodeur vs Carolina
They didn't score the goal, they were credited with the goal when opposing players put the puck into their own goal with an errant pass, etc.
Because last player to touch the puck IS the goal scorer always.
This is how much broduer scored
👇
5:42 it looks like the Carolina player touched the puck with his stick on the NJ own goal.
I like how the Blackhawks fan behind Rinne at the end is gesturing like "Are you f***ing kidding me?"
I don't think the description is accurate. But still good vid. Thank you.
I think they mean regular season vs playoffs, Marty got 2 regular while hextall only had 1 in regular
PEKKA RINNE IS TOO GOOD RIGHT NOW
You love to see it!

A NON-empty net goal by a goalie would really get me going... :-)
It almost happend the goalie went out of his net he went back into his net and the goalie had shot it and it hit of the post
I did that playing NHL 99. 😂
Officially the third goal of Martin Brodeur is against the other goalie :) But he was credited of the goal, he didn't shot it. It's also Martin Brodeur that was almost scored by the Pittsburgh's goalie because he go out of the net to get his stick.
@@ddark091 lol Marty s reaction

Linus Ullmark today!
To me Smiths is the best because of the timing and composure with seconds left
["Too good right now" intensifies]
Igor Shesterskin of the New York Rangers almost added himself to this list this week.
Imagine if Mike Smith’s hadn’t beaten the buzzer and you were the ref who had to tell everyone that it didn’t count
Honestly they should make it open net goalie shots on net only
April 17, 1997. story goes Gary Bettman still wakes up in a cold sweat every time he has dreams about this.
I think that the best goal by a goaltender will be Pekka Rinne
Probably Marty’s and Ron because the one was in the playoffs
I’m new to hockey but why was there no goaltender in the other goal?
When a team is down late in a game, they pull the goalie to go 6-on-5 to try to tie the score.
When new jersey still existed.
Yeah. Damn the Quickster.
