Update - Ys X Proud Nordics is apparently a stepping stone to put the Falcom development team on course to release 2 games annually, which is the ultimate vision for the near future.
2 games a year is crazy for their size. I really wish they wouldn't crank out games that fast, you can see shortcuts taken because of the short dev cycle. Hopefully this means they will remake all of sky and possibly crossbell, because I can't imagine they have enough IPs to release 2 games a year.

@@zillo1600and what exactly are you comparing daybreaks unbalanced system too? Reverie? The 10th iteration of that specific battle system? That's rich.
I'm a little worried about GungHo being named. Both grandia and lunar were given to limited run games for physical releases. Grant you, I personally don't have an issue with limited run games but it does scare me that we only have a month to pre-order the game and wait 6 to 12 months for the physical copy
I don't think you need to worry about GungHo America, it is led by the same man who once founded XSEED Games back in 2004 (Jun Iwasaki) Before he founded XSEED he was the president of Square Enix U.S.A
So hyped for Sky remake, the facial animations in the young Estelle and Joshua were the best I have seen from Falcom so far! I really liked the combat of Daybreak also and especially the Quartz system. A lot of people said it barely did anything and I could not disagree more. It took some of the niche quartz that wasted build slots and just built it directly into the bonuses like moon lens and for others it made them useful by making them multi element to enhance greater build bonuses "chefs kiss"! It was the first Legend of heroes game that felt properly balanced to me, as I couldn't just spam super moves to win on the highest difficulty like I did in the others. So if they bring that levels of commitment and balance to Trails of the Sky, I couldn't ask for more. Now the one thing I will curse them to my grave if they bring, and I bet they will, is the god-damn bonding system. I just want to play a game to the end and see everything, is that so much to ask?!?!?! If they don't have it and people realize how much better paced the game is without it, I hope people put it in their reviews... "stares menacingly"! haha
In regards to Tokyo Xanadu K / Kyoto Xanadu, I suspect we'll have some news on it within Q1 2025. I'm mainly basing this off of the fact that Falcom announced it in Q1 of last year, and Tokyo Xanadu's switch port was announced in Q1 of 2023. Far from a guarantee of course, but I do think it's worth noting that recent years' Tokyo Xanadu announcements fell outside of the yearly shareholder meetings. As for other things, my main concern with Sky 1C (is how I'm abbreviating it to distinguish it from the original FC) has been addressed: There will be an English dub. But what took me REALLY by surprise is not only the additional languages, but the fact it's day and date not just worldwide, but also WITH THE PC VERSION. I just hope it'll be... decent, assuming PH3 is not involved. As for Ys, it's kind of peculiar. There was supposedly an announcement for Memories of Celceta getting a switch port, but I haven't seen anything regarding a press release, so no clue what's up with that. Did expect it to happen at some point though. Ys X: Proud Nordics meanwhile is... kind of painful to hear, not even 2 months after the original came out in the west, ngl. But who am I kidding, I'm going to get it anyway. I suspect that platforms have yet to be specified because, like with Ys VIII and Tokyo Xanadu when they got upgraded versions, it's being brought to an additional platform. We just have to wait for Nintendo to reveal their new system. More info will likely follow suit. (I just hope the new content isn't stuck on just the Switch Successor. Like, PS5 and PC at LEAST.) Edit: But ultimately, the biggest and most important news for me by and far is one, simple, thing: Kai's sequel was not mentioned, at all. And now there's an astronomical chance of the west being caught up before Kai's sequel comes out. And I am very, VERY happy.
i hope it sells well. id love to see all 3 remade but i would settle for the first two. usually i wait for a steam sale but this will not be the case with this game. i will be supporting them on a day one release.
@@TheKisekiNut i started playing these a few years ago. currently on chapter 6 of trails of cold steel one. its been a wild ride and has surpassed the suikoden series as my favorite jrpg series of all time.
2024 was the year I bought all of Ys and 2025 will be the year I buy all of Trails. I also bought Xanadu Next and the Zwei!! games. I also plan on getting Tokyo Xanadu. Falcom's getting all of my money next year.
about the re release and falcom adding I think about Lacrimosa of dana and how they added the content about dana and Io that wasn't in orginal game if I recall, honestly I enjoyed the game a lot but the content they added contributed a lot to my enjoyment like having a character having several fighting style and additional bit of story, I'm really a sucker for that
Interesting Gungho is doing Sky not xseed or nisa. I saw standard is retail like amazon and CE is limited run which sucks but i guess better than nothing. Im not a fan that proud nordics isnt just an expansion tho. Gungho listens to fans tho and i even won a competition with this for grandia anniversary
For most gamestudio's I wouldn't bother but for Falcom...yeah as I loved the CS arc (yeah I'm one of those guys) I definitely will get it on release. The Sky arc is awesome and I've played it but it sure feels dated now. Would be great to play that great arc with new mechanics and graphics.
I'm not too concerned with the localizer, but I am concerned if the PC ports will still be done by Durante. In an age where Square Enix hasn't delivered a single non-mediocre product on PC in several decades and still continues to deliver dogwater ports, Falcom games having such fantastic PC ports has no doubt helped their games thrive very well.
I'm happy but also apprehensive about french subtitles for FC remake because it's not the first time for the series, Trails of Cold steel 3 also had a french translation but it was so bad I switched it back to english before the end of Chapter 1 (it even made me miss a quest because the tranlation of items was inconsistent). The translation from "bracers" to "brazzers" was very funny though.
My only concern is if sales would slow down? I will rather wait for one of these ultimate versions. I was gonna buy ys 10 but if there’s a better version like final mix did for kingdom hearts I’d rather wait . Another thing about gunho is with grandia on other platforms we had to wait for lrg to get those games on a non digital format .
I've been confident about Sky coming to PS5 at launch. The trailer looked great. And the music was 🔥. I don't have a gaming pc, so I'm so happy to have all my trails games on one console.
SO excited for trails 1 remake. Sky fc and especially sc are by far my fave trails games. Really hope they keep the difficulty options. I like jrpgs with a bit of bite to em :)
RIP Masayuki 🙏 Out of curiosity, what was that part about “he wasn’t perfect”. Did something happen? I’m very new to the community. I played Ys VIII this past summer and enjoyed it so much I played 5 more Ys games and now 6 Trails games. Playing through Cold Steel 2 atm and purchased every available Trails and Ys game. They’re all fantastic.
basically he wants to keeps cost low and made many conservative decisions in business. Falcom's employee numbers remain surprisingly low because of this. Falcom employees are overused and they didn't get paid well enough for their jobs. I expect this to change so it's very good news hearing the shareholder meeting is releasing more games. I hope they will be more successful in the future
Important to say the English trailer says it comes out in fall 2025 but the Japanese one doesn't specify. They probably haven't decided if they want to go simultaneous or if it would sell more in a different time slot. i.e Golden Week.
I'm extremely torn because I like Ys X so much that it's in my top 3 this year, but I REALLY hate seeing other companies pull a fucking Atlus. I really fucking hate this business practice of re-releasing the same game but with a bit of extra content at full price. They really need some kind of upgrade option to smooth this over for me, opinion-wise. Hopefully they choose the sensible option or else I'm going to have to stop buying Ys at full price just like all Atlus games.
Hope this remake sells well and that they can continue doing this all the way through Crossbell (or even more). I will gladly go through all the story again on the new engine :)
I'm pretty glad to see a return to the CS3-Reverie artstyle. Nothing against the Crossbell/Calvard one, but I prefer this one. Regardless, what a damn good time to be a Falcom fan
Got really lucky with that SkyFC announcement, when it showed up in a direct (I was so mad it was in the sizzle real not an actual part of it with it's own minute to shine) I was just starting SkySC
I can only speak for myself, but I've always hesitated to get into the Trails series because it's a story that's been going for 20 years over 13 installments. My only direct experience with the series thus far was the Daybreak demo. I enjoyed the gameplay but I found the setting and world more than a tad opaque BECAUSE of that missing context (like, what the hell are monsters in this world anyway?). Being able to start at the beginning would (probably) go a long way to alleviate that, so I'll endeavor to pick Sky the 1st at some point.
I usually prefer to wait until at least half of the series is released before jumping in and buying a bundle (Still remember the pain I felt with Cold Steel 1 ending. I could barely hold myself back not punching through my tv when I saw Rean just being taken away and then BAMM! Credits. for like 2 years before I could continue). I am still in the waiting process for the Calward Arc though its getting harder and harder to hold myself back... But for Trails in the Sky... I don't think I can hold myself back... :D 1 and 2 was my all time favorute in the entire genre of JRPG's.
Keep in mind that sales expectations aren't always realistic when it comes to game companies. 80,000 units is a lot if you expect it around there. But if you expect 100,000+ then 80,000 is still "bad". Let's hope they have some sane expectations.
Thanks for the news and perspectives, enjoyed your breakdown. As for me, I'm in for AT LEAST two copies of Trails in the Sky the 1st Remake. More, if the original release is any indication. ; ) Absolutely cannot wait.
I read that Nintendo wasnt supposed to reveal the game in their Nintendo Direct. That this was the real reveal. And it does feel like that. Nintendo was even saying that they were the Publisher. I dont know what happened.
Great to see a simultaneous release on all platforms! Hopefully PH3 can handle the PC version again, their ports are stellar. Don't know how to feel about the new Ys version, I still need to play X, guess I'll play it anyways.
The proud nordics stuff really pisses me off. This practice of re-releasing the same game within the span of a few months or years that Atlus has promoted is one of the most annoying things in JRPGs, which is a shame as I absolutely adore both Atlus and Falcom games. I hope they don’t keep doing this, and if they do, that they allow it to be like a DLC or an expansion upon the original.
I've played the first 2 and have the 3rd. Everyone needs to buy it whether to play or put on your back log like you say just to make sure they do the other 2 as well.
At this point Falcom and Nis have become close enough that Falcom shares scripts with them. I wouldn't be surprised if after Kuro 2 they announce Kai for quarter 4 2025 making it 3 legend of heroes games in 2025 outside of japan
I'm still curious why we've still not gotten word on a Kai no Kiseki PC release. Played through both Kuro 1 and 2 thanks to fan translations and was itching to get started on this as well but so far its radio silence
All around good news. I worry GungHo won't be able to live up to the quality of recent ports done by Nisa and PH3, but I'll be optimistically waiting. Very disappointed with the announcement of an Ys 10 "definitive edition" or whatever you'd call it already though. Feels very much like what Atlus does, and I'm not a fan at all.
@@kentstopme Didn't Durante handle most of the actual porting work on that game too though? Or didn't he start working on the series until Cold steel? Either way, as I said, I'm gonna be optimistic. Good to hear they have some experienced people on the team at least.
I think they should have the original English voices to return they are well established at this point for us and it would honestly sound so off unless they get actors that can sound pretty damn close to how they sound right now
After getting quite a few recommendations for JRPGs to try, the Trails series of games has been one of, if not the most recommended. My question is this: Do I wait for the remake or just jump in with the OG?
I'd say that if you want to get into it right away (and you don't mind playing older stuff), you can start with the original trilogy, but if you don't mind waiting for a while then wait for the remake. One upside with starting with the original trilogy is that, if you plan on playing through the entire series in release order, is that the gameplay progression will be the most natural for you. Whereas if you start with the remake, you'll start of with the most modern, up to date gameplay and graphics, and then have to either wait for the rest of the Sky games to be remade if you want the same gameplay and graphics, or play the original SC and 3rd if you want to see the rest of the story right away, but it's gonna have to be with the old gameplay style and graphics. Worth noting also is that Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure (AKA the Crossbell arc), the games that come after the Sky trilogy, also play very similarly to the original Sky trilogy, and have the same style of graphics. It's not until Trails of Cold Steel that the gameplay and graphics see any significant changes. So even if you'd wait for the entire Sky trilogy to be remade, you'd still have to eventually go back to an older style of game with the Crossbell arc (unless Falcom also decides to remake those, but who knows how many years that could take down the line).
The story is being "refreshed" and I don't know if PH3 is porting it so I'm still wary. There's no way they don't do 2nd chapter even if 1st sells bad because 95% of the work for 2nd chapter is already done. It's all the same art assets. It would be throwing all that away to not do the 2nd game.
Let's face it we trails hardcore doers are all going to crack the wallet open for this banger full DLC Deluxe xxl salad tomato and oignon to give falcom the love they deserve
Finally the first worldwide trails release! Also I’m glad I didn’t buy Ys Nordics because now I unfortunately I have to wait 2 years for the better version with is like an ATLUS move.
People are theorizing that this will be LRG. What are your thoughts? I really would like a consistent Limited edition packaging that runs alongside the rest of the Trails games (the ones directly offered through Falcom)
If Proud Nordics is a standalone for full price again I will not buy a single Falcom game on release anymore and wait years for deep sales of complete games. I'm sick of Atlus doing this and haven't bought anything since P5R. If Falcom wants to go the same path with their minuscule fanbase in comparison I will not aid them in it. I used to preorder every Falcom game. No more. Xanadu eX made sense as it was previously on handheld console only. But this is pure cash grab because they see Atlus is getting away with it.
If they start releasing enhanced versions like Atlus, Then I'll never buy a game at release again... Ys X released 3 months ago in the west and now they announce Ys X Proud Nordics!? Screw them if it's not a dlc. I'll definitely not buy this game 2 times and I regret buying Ys X, havn't even started it yet...

I haven't gotten Ys X yet and them pulling an Atlus makes me want to not buy the base version. Not a fan of that move. Will be buying Sky day 1, so glad it's not switch only since I don't have one
Very happy with sky 1st remake fall 2025 world wide and ys 10 proud nordics. But one concerning this is Ys 10 proud nordics i know we don’t have all the info yet but it’s not clear will it be paid DLC expansion or a whole new upgraded game us the buying fans will have to buy again similar to atlus old ways with persona 5 royal. I hope it can be both a paid dlc expansion and complete physical version
The cel shading and high quality animation makes it kinda look like a gacha game. Its more of a side step then a downgrade or upgrade over daybreak but I still don't know if I prefer it or not
I'm hyped buy at the same time depressed. I love the games have them in a lot of versions and plataforms, some of them even three times....but i cannot spread the love because most of my friends cannot read in english and its so weird they don't translate the games to spanish, the second most spoken language of the world.

I've used LRG before and they're generally fine. Europe is being handled by another company though in this case.
I don't think you need to worry about GungHo America, it is led by the same man who once founded XSEED Games back in 2004 (Jun Iwasaki)
Before he founded XSEED he was the president of Square Enix U.S.A
The way they handle the Lunar remasters will give us a taste of what they're all about. I'm not too worried though, we'll see what they do.
Like, PS5 and PC at LEAST.)
Edit: But ultimately, the biggest and most important news for me by and far is one, simple, thing:
Kai's sequel was not mentioned, at all.
I would want all 3. Third is the most misunderstood game for me considering how important it actually is to the wider lore of Trails.
If I can choose: ALWAYS Turn-Based-Battles!!! But I am so hyped!!!
I fell in love with the sky trilogy many years ago. This is a preorder for me on ps5. Looks awesome. I can't wait.
Sky 1st Chapter will probably be one of the first big JRPGs to come out on the Switch 2. It’ll do well
My only concern is if sales would slow down?
If they are, it won't be as hard as the original since the difficulties in the original were added as an afterthought, and weren't balanced properly
@@RaifSeverence I hope your wrong but only time will tell.
RIP Masayuki 🙏
Out of curiosity, what was that part about “he wasn’t perfect”. Did something happen?
I’m very new to the community. I played Ys VIII this past summer and enjoyed it so much I played 5 more Ys games and now 6 Trails games. Playing through Cold Steel 2 atm and purchased every available Trails and Ys game. They’re all fantastic.
Falcom had a rough patch in the mid-late 90s and many of their developers left.
Google „Falcom JDK band incident“
Google „Falcom JDK band incident“
basically he wants to keeps cost low and made many conservative decisions in business. Falcom's employee numbers remain surprisingly low because of this. Falcom employees are overused and they didn't get paid well enough for their jobs. I expect this to change so it's very good news hearing the shareholder meeting is releasing more games. I hope they will be more successful in the future
That FC trailer made me tear up
Important to say the English trailer says it comes out in fall 2025 but the Japanese one doesn't specify. They probably haven't decided if they want to go simultaneous or if it would sell more in a different time slot. i.e Golden Week.
I think Daybreak 2, Kai and Sky the 1st potentially all going west in 2025 is INCREDIBLE!
Sky already confirmed for Fall 2025😊
Daybreak 2 in February
Yea i think Kai will also release next year.
I will gladly go through all the story again on the new engine :)
just finished ys x : nordics and i really enjoyed it, can't wait to see the updated version of it
I'm pretty glad to see a return to the CS3-Reverie artstyle.
Now I can nag my friend who won't play the PSP version to play this, the hype is real
For consistency sake, i would appreciate having the same voice actors throughout the full series.
Super hyped for Sky 1st. I just finished the trilogy and started Trails Zero. I would be happy to join Estelle and Joshua again on their journey.
Remember how green Estelle was starting out, getting tummy kicked by Walter, she has a long way to go.
Definitely buying it on both PS5 and Switch
I'll buy this remake, lets hope they don't unlist the original on PC/Steam to replace it.
I want to still play both versions.
More, if the original release is any indication. ; )
Absolutely cannot wait.
At present it doesn't look like PH3 have been reached out to for the PC port. I'm in the same boat, Durante and co spoiled us with their PC ports.
I'm so excited for Sky remake, but Ys X Proud Nordics feels like a slap to the face since I JUST got Nordics. If I'd known I would have waited.
I've played the first 2 and have the 3rd. Everyone needs to buy it whether to play or put on your back log like you say just to make sure they do the other 2 as well.
So hyped for the Sky remake even more now with the worldwide release in Fall 2025 and for PS5 and PC as well 😤🔥🔥
At this point Falcom and Nis have become close enough that Falcom shares scripts with them. I wouldn't be surprised if after Kuro 2 they announce Kai for quarter 4 2025 making it 3 legend of heroes games in 2025 outside of japan
Take my money Falcom. Release all the Sky Remakes or just remaster the Originals, I'll buy it eventually.
The team from GungHo doing Sky 1st are ex-Xseed members so i’d say the quality will be fine.
@@kentstopme I was waiting for this comment. Thank you.
@@kentstopme Didn't Durante handle most of the actual porting work on that game too though? Or didn't he start working on the series until Cold steel? Either way, as I said, I'm gonna be optimistic. Good to hear they have some experienced people on the team at least.
X-seed never ham fisted their weird fetishes into the game like Nisa has been doing so its a good call.
I think they should have the original English voices to return they are well established at this point for us and it would honestly sound so off unless they get actors that can sound pretty damn close to how they sound right now
I'm so happy that it will arrive at PS5 but I heard that NISA won't release it. I wonder if I will be able to get collector's edition in EU...
Such a shame we aren't getting a Spanish Translation so it gets more popular.
Nintendo strengthening their relationship with 3rd party developers by suing them
Yep 😡
Looked into GungHo and it looks like their President is the former president of XSEED and Square Enix so it makes sense why they went with them.
I'm still mixed on the combat- I think Atlus' take on the field/turn based felt better and smoother - but I'm happy that it'll be on PS5!
I plan on getting physical version and steam version ,as I did with the rest of TLoH
100% here for more Karja
It's been updated that LRG is handling physical for N. America, Europe is being handled by Clear River Games.
But this is pure cash grab because they see Atlus is getting away with it.
cant wait for fall 2025 now
Worldwide release but they haven't announced a dub yet?
Dub is confirmed on the website
Hopefully the translation is 1:1 to the og one 🙏
I'm buying 10 copies of Sky Remake... Okay, I'm just joking, but dear lord I hope it sells a fuckton.
I would like to know who will be distributing sky 1st chapter..
And i hear that Ys x will have an upgrade version name Ys x proud nordic , will it be Dlc or Falcom following Atlus treatment?
I think it could be the Atlus treatment
Upgrade would have what? More content or only visuals? To me nórdics it's already a good game

ah yes, average software houses just casually skipping over spanish and italian localization
while i get why italian is uncommon (although as an italian it of course pisses me off)... why not spanish?
last time i checked, spanish has more speakers compared to french AND german combined
as for the rest of the news, the trails was amazing, but i'm not really into atlus-llike re-releases like this Proud Nordics seems to be, i guess i'll just wait until we get that version too (hopefully)
I'm buying two copies PS5 and Switch
The cel shading and high quality animation makes it kinda look like a gacha game. Its more of a side step then a downgrade or upgrade over daybreak but I still don't know if I prefer it or not
I'm hyped buy at the same time depressed. I love the games have them in a lot of versions and plataforms, some of them even three times....but i cannot spread the love because most of my friends cannot read in english and its so weird they don't translate the games to spanish, the second most spoken language of the world.
Ok, got to reiterate but the sound team sucks these days.
