If they keep using those tracks I'm assuming they'll save money by just using some of the super arranges in the game. After all one of the hypest boss fights in (Cold Steel 4 endgame spoilers) Overlord McBurn is with Falcom reusing their banger super arrange for "the enforcers".
While it's cause the style opens up to more expressions, Schera is indeed quite young. While Joshua and Estelle are 16 years old in this game, Schera is just 23 years old. So she was bound to look quite young and not as mature looking as the original art made her look (but I'm guessing they wanted to give her a sort of mother like appeal maybe since she basically is one of the few older female figures on Estelle's life). As for Tita, she is supposed to only be 4 years younger than Estelle and Joshua (so 12 years old), so her looking older makes sense specially given how the 3D games make the different ages more clear. In fact, I always found it curious how her sprite looked so tiny by comparison to the rest of the group xDD
As someone who just recently got into the Trails series with Trails of Cold Steel (im in the middle of playing it now and really liking it) im EXTREMELY excited for this remake 🙂
I played the demo for daybreak, the newest(or close to it) trails game, and having the option between real-time battles and turn based was JUST like metaphor(which came out after) so seeing the remake of trails having it seems wild and great
@@BlowBow2 yea metaphor's field combat, it almost feels like it shouldnt even exist. there's not much to it and it gives you no options. daybreak's adds a nice flow to the overall gameplay loop and rewards you for playing well with perfect dodges/etc.
@@jmporkbobI feel people got the wrong idea of what Metaphor's overworld combat was supposed to be after being revealed so close to Daybreak, but it's obviously not an evolution of that, since they're not made by the same people. It's an evolution of other MegaTen/Persona overworld interactions, where that was simply a way to start fights. Now instead of just fishing for back attacks for preemptive fights you also have the stun meter, and more importantly, it lets you sweep through low level enemies so you don't have to waste time fighting all them, which is a big improvement over everything that came before. But the turn-based combat is the way you're intended to actually combat enemies. It's not aiming to be a full blown overworld combat system, and I don't think it needs to be. I'm glad Trails is doing its thing, but it's not something I need every JRPG to copy. Tbh, I'm actually a little disappointed they chose to borrow that from Daybreak for the remake. It was cool in Daybreak, but I wish they would have stayed a little more faithful to the original to make it feel more like its own thing. But it's not the end of the world I suppose.
@@Zeik56exactly, its also coincidental that they have that same design philosophy, people would say one copied the other but that's nearly impossible based on dev times.
Nico hitting us with a black screen on stream seems eerily familiar to what the Faceless did hmmmmmmm, could it be that Nico himself is a Ouroborus Member? 👀
2:00 Right here lmao was my attempt to grab Nico's attention when we were just staring at a black screen on our end. I was trying to think of a way to grab his eye and gifted twitch subs USUALLY work. Not this time... XD
6:59 this is a trails of cold steel mechanic, what's funny is that it didn't work with spells back in those games. I wonder how they'll justify it with the lore
I hope they can use FFVII rebirth features where even if you just bring 4 party members the entire crew appears on the cutscene or at least the party slots you bring get expanded like Cold Steel and Daybreak games... In modern Trails games where you have 12+ playable party members you can bring at most 8 of them with 4 of them being reserve you can switch out during battle. Although on FC this only happens at final dungeon. Let's hope this can bring that Estelle and Joshua are not always required on frontline.
I don't think there's any chance they're going to rewrite the story to let you keep everyone. Too much of the story would fall apart if characters did not leave when they are supposed to.
I think when you get to SC and have options for who to include in the team, yes they will make it so everyone is "with" you. But in FC where the characters are supposed to stay behind, I don't think they're gonna change it.
If they do let you take all your team, it won't be until the final dungeon since that's the first time in First chapter you have more than 4 party members.
As someone who is new to Trails and was hooked with Trails through Daybreak despite not playing the other games. I’m very excited to play this game and Daybreak 2 in 2025.
With Schera, she looks younger but it's amazing how you kinda have to put them side by side to see what the changes are. 1) Her face is every so slightly rounder than before, where her chin was just a touch sharper. It makes her whole face look younger. 2) Her eyes are also rounder. Her eyes arched up in her original design, and the rounder eyes make them look a smidge bigger as a result. 3) Her nose and mouth are less pronounced than in the original portrait.. 4) Her OG face portraits had more pronounced shading to them compared to the shading on, for comparison, Estelle's or Kloe's faces. Again, aging the face ever so slightly. Other little design changes. 1) Most noticeably the shawl around her arms is completely gone and has been replaced with detached sleeves. Most likely to make her animations infinitely less taxing in 3D. 2) Her chest cloth was originally just one purple cloth, but now the purple cuts off in the middle of her bosom revealing a black cloth underneath. It was probably always there, but hidden before where now it isn't. 3) The tufts of hair that poof outward have been made thicker. Dunno why. 4) Also on the hair, her braid appears to be longer than before. 5) The tighter necklace on her neck is smaller overall. Similar to Olivier, it can be difficult to spot the differences at a glace and may require you to put them side by side to really notice.
Something interesting Nico read on the website is that the game has a new English localization, meaning they aren't using the Xseed translation like people thought from some of the early press release info. I had a feeling when the sizzle real in the Nintendo direct seemed to specifically cut out any text from the Japanese version of the trailer and them not listing an English publisher, but it is nice to get confirmation on that. This also dashes any misguided hope of us getting English Cold Steel 1&2 on Switch.
I can't wait to see Nico's reaction to Trails's new hybrid system. Metaphor's combat was great, but the overworld combat is pretty lacking. Trails is just....so much better in that regard
@@Doctorrr_ It makes more sense to me that it's just easier to make an older model for an 11-year-old because of the 3D models being put into battles against large monsters.
Why does it always happen when a good game Nico plays eventually gets a remake shortly after. Xenoblade 1, Paper Mario TTYD, and now this. It’s so funny.
One of the biggest things to me is the artstyle change. I can't describe it very accurately but, the OG has what I call Late 90s-Early 00s eyes and now... We have Early - Mid 10s eyes. Feels SO much more modern
So, for those who are curious on the gameplay From what i can gather, The gameplay is taking a page from Daybreak, the latest set of trails games, as you swap from action to turn base, i assume that if you played that, you can probably understand the gameplay for this remake As for that "Strike!" And you see three options, I know cold steel has it, which lets you deal extra damage Animation wise, i love that this game and Ys 10 is continuing the beautiful Animation, which makes the attacks and moves as well as expressions more charming Overall, considering Ys has my attention, This game and the playthough in this channel has me hype to get into the series
If you don't mind spoilers *that* much (they do have spoilers cause it's the latest game in the series) or aren't great at remembering faces, I recommend giving Kai no Kiseki scenes a look Holy shit they came so far with their 3D animations, they can rival AAA and Chinese gachas with those animations, which is insane considering how middle-sized the company is
I was a little surprised to see the link system here, I don't see any obvious visual clue as to Estelle and Joshua being linked if it is the same system. It's probably just a natural thing they can do (because if it involves the orbment then that breaks lore a bit). I also don't really remember starting chains with magic like that, but I could also just not be remembering right as it's been awhile. Cold steel had 3 physical attack types, slash, strike and pierce and a chain would start when you hit an enemy weakness (pretty sure they all had lvl of resistance to each one and each one had a different chance to start a chain. It's been awhile since I played cold steel)
Daybreak system (by extension Sky the First) and Metaphor system are not exactly the same. The biggest difference is that in the Daybreak system, enemies DO NOT have invincibility frames when you stun them. You can kill every enemy in the overworld. It's not like Metaphor where you stun them, and then you just can't attack them until they're unstunned.
I really like the Legend of Heroes games, but I only played the 1st chapter for the PSP. Weird thing was I really adored when the game was still only Japan exclusive waaay back in the day because of the PSP Legend of Heroes games. I won't be able to play this sadly, but it looks gorgeous and can't wait to see your playthroughs. Also, this is out of topic but the way they modernized the features and graphics of this game... I can see a future where Grandia (PS1 game) can do the same and would look dead drop gorgeous imo
Nice to see Nico seeing this! I didn't notice didn't they took out Legend of Heroes title and I am curious that if it gonna be both action-based like FF7 remake/rebirth (never played Daybreak) and turn-on based like the OG.
It's pretty much like Metaphor. You attack an enemy on field with a basic combo, dodge their attacks, and attacks reduce a stun gauge. Once that's empty you go into turn-based mode with the enemy's health reduced.
Yeah, in order to adapt to the newest combat system, it is better for you to finish Zero, Azure, Cold Steel, Reverie, and Daybreak by Fall 2025. Good luck! We will be waiting. (No really, we will be waiting!)
@@RaifSeverence I got the news from an article from RPGsite titled: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the First launches on Playstation 5, Switch and Steam Worldwide in Fall 2025. "GungHo confirms that the localized title will be Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, while it is still called The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st in Japan."
As for animation yes trails into reverie and Ys 9 is where the animation got a decent bit better but daybreak and Ys 10 are where you started seeing much more animated cutscenes at key points sometimes even making use of MoCap for some really cool bits that are unfortunately super spoilers heavy.

The fun part back on the initial reveal was that it was only a week after they made a pubic post about wanting to remake the oldest games PS: I reaaally miss the jazzy part of the intro portion of the battle theme. Glad the rest still has sax, though.
People have been wondering what they'll do in regards to the localization. The publisher for the first three games being different than the rest is the reason those three games have been in Steam jail, you see. And people weren't sure if the localization from back then belonged to the publisher or not.
I am buying this without a second thought. Like holy shit this has me hyped. I'm getting FF7 Remake vibes of hype from this. I wish all my favourite JRPGs got this kind of treatment.
the one thing that makes me curious about FC's remake is what will Nightmare difficulty w/max level and best equipment look like balance-wise, all assuming NG+ exists 🤔 as in the original FC w/max level and best equips on nightmare, legit absolutely nothing harms you cept for the enforcers+super rare heavy armed ones(actual chance of game-over vs these), final dungeon enemies, and the final dungeon boss before the actual final boss(who basically can't ever hurt you.) not even Loewe(w/o S-craft) can harm you🤔
@@jammer9941 yup although, SC's a different beast from FC, cuz to nightmare SC 1st playthrough, FC's a hard-required 100% completion. as SC's Prologue on nightmare is completely impossible w/o the FC bonuses. SC nightmare's balanced around NG+, which's the only time one should do that, cuz a 1st playthrough's extremely reliant on misses to even progress.
I wouldn't expect a lot of voice acting. This series basically has it for the important scenes, and even has weird things where some background characters will be voiced during certain scenes, and the main characters won't. It's jarring.
And as a huge Trails nerd... I wonder how they are going to explain the follow-ups without the Arcus unit? Or the shard combat system without the Xipha. Or are they even going to bother to explain. I don't really care, but it will be fun to see them try to explain it. hahaha
So these assist system from cold steel actually very big lore breach. Because its called combat link, its feature of erbonia army newest orbment, that don't even exist in the time of first sky game, its start testing pfase years after and was pretty significant part of cold steel games plot.
I think it’s likely they’ll only have it work with certain character pairings in fc instead and then have it eventually happen to every possible pair in sc because they’re now all “more understanding” of each other, which’ll inspire Olivert to begin development of the ARCUS units
Well, Erebonia didn't know it existed in Liberl, because they didn't ask Liberl... it could be possible now that they had the tech way before... they are much more advanced orbmentwise, so they can explain like that
I'll start playing the psp version soon, am quite excited for it. Don't care much about this remake since I don't play on these new consoles or anything

If they keep using those tracks I'm assuming they'll save money by just using some of the super arranges in the game. After all one of the hypest boss fights in (Cold Steel 4 endgame spoilers)
Overlord McBurn is with Falcom reusing their banger super arrange for "the enforcers".
Nico hiding the twitch chat which was just us yelling in the back like that "Walt in the car" meme. XD
I haven't forgotten that in the initial stream, Nico forgot to show the screen, so we saw the black screen the entire time.
I'm expecting a chest message saying "Not again" 😂😂😂
If they decide to do it again.
I want a chest message, that is like: "I am getting a strange sense of deja vu. Like we've met in this place at this time before."
As someone who just recently got into the Trails series with Trails of Cold Steel (im in the middle of playing it now and really liking it) im EXTREMELY excited for this remake 🙂
just stop at CS2 as CS3 will spoil Sky and Crossbell completely ^^
@Easelgames Appreciate that honestly 🙏
I played the demo for daybreak, the newest(or close to it) trails game, and having the option between real-time battles and turn based was JUST like metaphor(which came out after) so seeing the remake of trails having it seems wild and great
Hell, I liked Daybreak's option way more. The seamless transitions from the field made metaphor look kinda clunky despite the stylistic superiority.
@@BlowBow2 yea metaphor's field combat, it almost feels like it shouldnt even exist. there's not much to it and it gives you no options. daybreak's adds a nice flow to the overall gameplay loop and rewards you for playing well with perfect dodges/etc.
@@BlowBow2Yea Metaphor's one is really...not great, especially after playing Daybreak.
After getting into this series thanks to Nico I'm defo gonna try this out
*WHY IS MY PRESENT A REMAKE?!*
(drop kicks the screen)
From my understanding, the Sky remake seems to be borrowing gameplay ideas from the Cold Steel and Daybreak games. So that will be interesting
love seeing your reaction to it instead of you reacting to a black screen like it was during the livestream lol
Nico hitting us with a black screen on stream seems eerily familiar to what the Faceless did hmmmmmmm, could it be that Nico himself is a Ouroborus Member? 👀
Nico will be an anguis and bernie will be an enforcer...of belly scratches
If that jumping attack was her second S Craft, theyre definitely gonna have to change that for SC, lest her unmentionables become quite mentionable XD
Can't wait for Nico's blind playthrough for this one. Kappa
His reaction during the stream was already blind so good start 😅
2:00 Right here lmao was my attempt to grab Nico's attention when we were just staring at a black screen on our end. I was trying to think of a way to grab his eye and gifted twitch subs USUALLY work. Not this time... XD
I was wondering if that was intentional! 😂
RAPIDLY REMAKING THIS SERIES!
6:59 this is a trails of cold steel mechanic, what's funny is that it didn't work with spells back in those games. I wonder how they'll justify it with the lore
You're assuming it's an orbment ability and not an evolution of the chain crafts from OG SC.
@@RaifSeverence I mean, there's follow up, rush, and burst, it's litteraly what's written there
I hope they can use FFVII rebirth features where even if you just bring 4 party members the entire crew appears on the cutscene or at least the party slots you bring get expanded like Cold Steel and Daybreak games...
Hope not
@@RaifSeverence and it only matters really for a handful of lines by Richard, most of which dont even mean anything
I'm so excited for this remake
The tiny little sprite battles are gonna be even more epic now.
I can't wait to see Nico's reaction to Trails's new hybrid system. Metaphor's combat was great, but the overworld combat is pretty lacking. Trails is just....so much better in that regard
It’s gonna be a good year for Ys and Trails fans both.
Yooo this black screen trailer is sick! Can't wait for the gameplay trailer next.
I can't get over how I feel like as the games have evolved Agate is drawn/modeled to look younger and younger LOL.
And Tita being drawn to look older. Conspiracy theory is they did that so that Agate and Tita isn't nearly as weird anymore.
@SuperSupersoda I understand why they'd make Tita look older, but that actually makes a lot of sense.
@@Doctorrr_ It makes more sense to me that it's just easier to make an older model for an 11-year-old because of the 3D models being put into battles against large monsters.
@@morkmello5367 12
@@SuperSupersoda And that's good
Dropkicking baby-Joshua really sold me on this remake.
Why does it always happen when a good game Nico plays eventually gets a remake shortly after.
Xenoblade 1, Paper Mario TTYD, and now this. It’s so funny.
Patiently awaiting Skies of Arcadia then ;)
Ys vs trails also coming 😀 trails fans are eating good next year
One of the biggest things to me is the artstyle change. I can't describe it very accurately but, the OG has what I call Late 90s-Early 00s eyes and now... We have Early - Mid 10s eyes. Feels SO much more modern
I cannot wait to get this.
"Schera looks way younger"
More like her 2d sprites make her look older than she is.
So, for those who are curious on the gameplay
From what i can gather, The gameplay is taking a page from Daybreak, the latest set of trails games, as you swap from action to turn base, i assume that if you played that, you can probably understand the gameplay for this remake
As for that "Strike!" And you see three options, I know cold steel has it, which lets you deal extra damage
Animation wise, i love that this game and Ys 10 is continuing the beautiful Animation, which makes the attacks and moves as well as expressions more charming
Overall, considering Ys has my attention, This game and the playthough in this channel has me hype to get into the series
If you don't mind spoilers *that* much (they do have spoilers cause it's the latest game in the series) or aren't great at remembering faces, I recommend giving Kai no Kiseki scenes a look
Holy shit they came so far with their 3D animations, they can rival AAA and Chinese gachas with those animations, which is insane considering how middle-sized the company is
I was a little surprised to see the link system here, I don't see any obvious visual clue as to Estelle and Joshua being linked if it is the same system.
전세계 전기종 동시발매!! 모든 팬들이 기다리고 있습니다!!
Nico are you going to play the remake
Was waiting for this reaction ever sicne the Trailer dro pped.
we need 3rd playthru ASAP nico !!
PS5... I'm definitely keeping my eye out for this game.
MY BODY IS READY
I really like the Legend of Heroes games, but I only played the 1st chapter for the PSP. Weird thing was I really adored when the game was still only Japan exclusive waaay back in the day because of the PSP Legend of Heroes games. I won't be able to play this sadly, but it looks gorgeous and can't wait to see your playthroughs. Also, this is out of topic but the way they modernized the features and graphics of this game... I can see a future where Grandia (PS1 game) can do the same and would look dead drop gorgeous imo
RAPIDLY INCREASING TRAILS AWARENESS!! 💥
@@BlueCrimson10 Ahh I see, thanks for the info.
Yeah, in order to adapt to the newest combat system, it is better for you to finish Zero, Azure, Cold Steel, Reverie, and Daybreak by Fall 2025.
Good luck! We will be waiting. (No really, we will be waiting!)
now i'm just waiting for Nico the watch Diamond is Unbreakable so we can get a Steel ball Run trailer a month later
I just completed FC recently and now this remake got announced
More Trails!
2:15 _getting Gold Ship drop kick PTSD_
Where's kevin?....oh right....😢
About the title, they took the "The Legend of Heroes" out for the localized version for some reason. It's still there in the Japanese title.
Unless they changed the logo in the last few days, no it isn't.
Man if they could get the gagharv trilogy remade like this it would make my day
As for animation yes trails into reverie and Ys 9 is where the animation got a decent bit better but daybreak and Ys 10 are where you started seeing much more animated cutscenes at key points sometimes even making use of MoCap for some really cool bits that are unfortunately super spoilers heavy.
Let's be honest, Johnny tends to voice for a lot of things nowadays. Him NOT coming back to reprise his role would be strange. Now, if Falcom can get EVERYBODY that voiced their characters (or at least everybody that can be contacted), that would be INSANE.
And we're presumably gonna be getting remakes ror rhe rest of the trilogy if this sells well
Hey I’ve already made plans to get this since announcement so I’m doing my part
@@zdoggzero6595 Im already set on getting the standard and CE for this. Well, since Limited Run Games will take charge of the CE 😭. 100% sure not a day1 release
Man, I really hope so. I played Cold Steel 1+2 and absolutely devoured them one after the other, but stopped playing towards the end of 2 because of Crossbell.
I was going to go back and play Sky onwards, but then this remake announcement came out. And I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place of wanting to wait for the remake, but also just wanting moar Trails and wanting it now. I already have the entire Liberl trilogy in my Steam library from an earlier sale lol
@Harkz0r I say play FC and SC first so you can compare and contrast
The attack of the black screen (if you watched the stream you know)
The fun part back on the initial reveal was that it was only a week after they made a pubic post about wanting to remake the oldest games
PS: I reaaally miss the jazzy part of the intro portion of the battle theme.
Somehow i can see that it is likely to happen. Cause thats beíng happening a little too much thweese days.
One thing I'm hype about this remake.. is smirk Estelle. And im all set.
In the original, Tita is supposed to be 12, but they make her seem like she's closer to 6.
Between Ys 10 and this Falcom really seems to like using their newfound animation budget to have characters drop kick other people
the one thing that makes me curious about FC's remake is what will Nightmare difficulty w/max level and best equipment look like balance-wise, all assuming NG+ exists 🤔
as in the original FC w/max level and best equips on nightmare,
legit absolutely nothing harms you cept for the enforcers+super rare heavy armed ones(actual chance of game-over vs these), final dungeon enemies,
and the final dungeon boss before the actual final boss(who basically can't ever hurt you.)
not even Loewe(w/o S-craft) can harm you🤔
I did it nightmare difficulty on the first play through and my intro to the series. Does that still kick your teeth in? 😅
@@jammer9941 yup
although, SC's a different beast from FC,
cuz to nightmare SC 1st playthrough,
FC's a hard-required 100% completion.
as SC's Prologue on nightmare is completely impossible w/o the FC bonuses.
SC nightmare's balanced around NG+, which's the only time one should do that,
cuz a 1st playthrough's extremely reliant on misses to even progress.
@@MLmaster135 I've only beaten SC on hard despite beating every game first try on the hardest difficulty lol.
the graphics look better than trails daybreak does to me
Estelle looks so pretty
I wouldn't expect a lot of voice acting. This series basically has it for the important scenes, and even has weird things where some background characters will be voiced during certain scenes, and the main characters won't. It's jarring.
Isn’t Schera like early to mid twenties? She’s like only 6 or seven years older than Estelle right?
According to the wiki she's 23 in FC, so 7 years older than Estelle
I think she's seven years older. Estelle and Joshua are both 16 in Sky FC, and Schera is about the same age Agate is.
And as a huge Trails nerd...
I wonder how they are going to explain the follow-ups without the Arcus unit? Or the shard combat system without the Xipha. Or are they even going to bother to explain.
I don't really care, but it will be fun to see them try to explain it. hahaha
They could just have it be them having good teamwork. It would make sense for Estelle and Joshua to be able to support each other like that.
I don't think they will explain, and there's no need
Anyone notice chat is nowhere in this reaction video? 😏
So these assist system from cold steel actually very big lore breach. Because its called combat link, its feature of erbonia army newest orbment, that don't even exist in the time of first sky game, its start testing pfase years after and was pretty significant part of cold steel games plot.
They'll probably just retcon it as the "super-duper early alpha test", given how the Foundation is involved in orbments in both countries. ⌚
I think it’s likely they’ll only have it work with certain character pairings in fc instead and then have it eventually happen to every possible pair in sc because they’re now all “more understanding” of each other, which’ll inspire Olivert to begin development of the ARCUS units
@@useless4692 That definitely sounds like a healthy way of doing it.
Well, Erebonia didn't know it existed in Liberl, because they didn't ask Liberl... it could be possible now that they had the tech way before... they are much more advanced orbmentwise, so they can explain like that
Schera is 23 going on 15.
HELL YEAH LETS GO!!!!!!
I'll start playing the psp version soon, am quite excited for it. Don't care much about this remake since I don't play on these new consoles or anything
