This actually happened in real life. I read an article where the school lied about the Prom location and gave the girl the wring address with a fake prom where she was the only one

I agree with you that "Love Thy Neighbor" was an amazing number! After seeing the movie and the Broadway musical, I feel like that song was the only one that was even remotely comparable to the Broadway musical

With The Prom, this is one of my favorite musicals ever, and to be honest, the movie does not really do it justice. I highly recommend listening to the original broadway cast recording, and looking at clips from the actual musical, it’s amazing!

Emma wore a tux at the end because a tux was originally what she wanted to wear to the prom as she says earlier (her personal style really isn't dresses) and also as a fuck you to the PTA saying girls have to wear dresses. This musical was inspired by a true story of a girl who wanted to go to prom with her girlfriend, wearing a tux and the prom was cancelled in the same way as this

I really thought the actress was Amy Adams, but then I watched it again just recently and realized it was Nicole Kidman. I was shook.

Honestly, The Prom is one of my favourite movies and stage musicals. It just means a lot to me.
I agree that the prom isn’t the best or even close to being the best musical. I like it because it gives me a lot of nostalgia. My freshman year of high school it was on Broadway and my drama club went to see it. We got to speak with one of the ensemble members after the show and even ran into Lin Manuel Miranda who was leaving the theater after seeing the same showing as us. Since then, my friends and I have been DYING to be in the prom ourselves. When the movie came out we were ecstatic. And in a couple of days, there’s auditions for the prom in my hometown for a theater program, and me and my friends are auditioning. This show means so much to me. Even though it’s not that good, it was the beginning of my love for theater. I grew up with theater and was always interested in it. Both of my parents had gone to college for theater, tho neither of them really used their degrees. My stepdad would do lighting for my middle school and high school shows. But as I got older and my schools started having a drama program, I fell in love. I’m currently in college now, and even tho I’m not going for theater, theater is still a huge part of my life. Just this past spring I got my first ever lead in a musical. I can’t attribute my initial love of theater with the prom, but it definitely stoked the fire and kept it burning long enough to get me where I am today.
I went to school with the girl that played Emma. I woke up one day and I had a TH-cam notification saying she was on the late night show with James Cordan and I was like wait what?
Budget Betty and Look-Alike Lily had me dying 😂
I love Meryl but I'm not fully loving this performance, I'm tired of seeing James Corden in every musical movie, the actress who plays Emma is good but she just keeps smiling even in serious moments, Ariana Debose and Andrew Rannells were perfect, you should listen to the Broadway cast recording, hopefully one day you get to see the show live, it's a whole different vibe and you'll love it
I always eat a full pint of ice cream by myself. It's such an indulgent way to exist, literally just fuels my isolationism, I def recommend.

My high school music techer is a lesbian and she lived in indiana and she left there because she was a lesbian and the situation was exactly like the prom (The musical) also are school is doing the prom for the musical this year and I'm in it. :)

23:26 i think their intentions changed from only thinking about themselves from the very beginning to genuinely wanting to help and that they care about emma, so their intentions changed but they went about helping her in a way that emma didn’t like. if that made sense
also the songs in the movie are so underwhelming!! the broadway cast recording songs are so much more energetic and upbeat!!!

Have you watched Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997)? I think it is like the best version of Cinderella and one of the best princess movies out there. Fabulous cast, great music, and both hilarious and beautiful costumes.
If you want to see more theatre, Team Starkid does full length musicals and posts them free on youtube! They’re most known for their Harry Potter parody musicals. But they have some completely original stuff too! :)
I loved the movie but... The broadway version is waaaay better... -Especially because of the full version of "You Happened", and Barry being played by the living legend that is Brooks Ashmanskas-

After a few rewatches I understand why some people don’t like James corden’s performance, I’m not a big fan of it myself but I will say he definitely seemed to have a lot of passion for and fun doing this film. I will also say the fact that he’s a straight man playing a gay man is the least of my concerns. It’s just that because of Barry being a stereotypical flamboyant gay man, it unintentionally and inadvertently comes across as offensive.

I really loved this movie. Well, I didn't hear about this movie at first. But, I do know that Nico Greetham, the same guy who played Calvin, the Ninja Steel Yellow Ranger from Power Rangers Ninja Steel and Super Ninja Steel is in this film. And so has the former Disney stars, Nathaniel J. Potvin and Kevin Chamberlain is also in this film. I'm also excited that Ariana Debose is going to be in the upcoming Disney movie, Wish in honor of Disney's 100th year! *_cheers_* And I hate the squealing microphone feedback! It drives me crazy! *_CRAZY!_* Sorry. Sorry. And Logan Riley Hassel is in this film also, because I saw her on the Fuller House episode, "Fast Times at Bayview High".

Rebecca the accent James Corden tried to do was a gay accent. If Rayan Murphy casted an actual actor who had a gay accent at the age about 50 that had decent acting, would've been more better for the musical and yes I've seen the original musical it was fantastic but the Netflix version also did a very good job with it, accept that Rayan keeps on cutting off songs from the original musical and it makes it feel like the story is more about Dee Alian and Berry with their problems instead of the story to be about Emma and her struggles with homophobic people in this High School.

They are all really good. It's James Corden who is not I'm comfortable to watch with in this movie. The broadway version is still better than the movie but I'm sure with this movie, there will be new audience for The Prom when they come back for regional tour 🎉

Please don't get mad at me but, James Corden really wasn't as bad as you guys think. He was properly playing the role of Barry. if you've ever seen The Prom live or in a bootleg, you'd be able to see that Barry is just played like that. he wasn't being stereotypical, he was being true to the character. While I don't like that Netflix didn't get a gay man to play Barry, I'm not that mad about James Corden's execution of the character. Again, please don't get mad at me. Its just my opinion :)

i saw the broadway show and when it was revealed she was at a fake prom my stomach seriously dropped. also the musical is amazing and while there are a few good performances in the movie (can't wait to see ariana debose in literally everything!!) it really doesn't compare

this film disappointed me. It had some great ideas, great cast and so much potential but the direction and the editing just.... eek, didn't flow well and the music wasn't memorable enough to excuse it, like in Greatest Showman. BUT speaking of Nicole Kidman and musicals, if you haven't seen Moulin Rouge, that should definitely be on the list. Her and Ewan McGreggor's voices in that are killer
