Awesome collection! The silver CBS Fox Home Video logo tapes are the original VHS releases from 1984 (also got re-released throughout the late '80s). Though that particular A New Hope tape was the second release of the movie on home video, as the original release came out for rental stores in 1982. The VHS that have Vader on A New Hope, the stormtrooper on The Empire Strikes Back, and Yoda on Return of the Jedi was the 1995 VHS releases that you could buy individually or in a box set, and was the last VHS release of the trilogy before the Special Editions came out in 1997. As for the Return of the Jedi DVD that had the gold fullscreen logo is the original 2004 DVD release which came in the box set with a bonus disc, and the widescreen version was silver while the fullscreen version was gold, similar to the gold and silver Special Edition VHS box sets. The black and white special edition VHS box set you have was released in 2000 to coincide with the home video release of The Phantom Menace so the covers would match, and then it was just carried over to Attack of the Clones as well. Revenge of the Sith was never released on VHS here in North America, but The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were released in a two tape box set when Attack of the Clones was first released on VHS and DVD in late 2002.
Thanks for all the info, crazy how many times it was released, compared to now. As a kid I only had the vhs and later grabbed the DVDs. I vaguely remember special edition VHS
@ No problem man. Yeah, I was the same way. My dad had the 1995 VHS box set, and then I got the 2000 VHS box set, but didn't get the movies on DVD until 2006, after I'd had all three prequels on DVD. And the release history for the first three movies is insane.
@ nice. I forgot to show off the CED I have that too for just Star Wars, and I think they stopped making them around the time Return of the Jedi came out. So there weren’t as many.
@@80sMadeConsumer Yeah, Star Wars wasn't as prevalent as Star Trek was in my house when I was growing up. I watched reruns of the Droids and Ewoks cartoons, but I didn't see the movies until after my ninth birthday, when my dad got the VHS box set in 1995. Speaking of those particular tapes, each one has an interview with George Lucas conducted by Leonard Maltin before the movie. The interview on Return of the Jedi has George talking about the prequels and his plans for them as of 1995, which is different from how they turned out. Some great film history there. Oh yeah, no, CEDs did not last very long at all. They were around long enough for the entire trilogy to get released on the format, and that's it.
@80sMadeConsumer it is a cool set and all the poster is is the Boba Fett riding the Lizard creature that's one of the arts for the Bonus Disc but I usually watch my bluray copy of The Holiday Special around this time but this year season depression has been super bad so I just been Binging the Batman the Animated Series bluray set I have while on vacation in flordia before I head back to Kentucky tomorrow so Friday when we do my Christmas with my son I might watch it while he unwraps his presents Friday
It is a bit of a gray area but I’ll go over the basics of how people have been doing it in the video! It's a more complicated video that I'm working on now; going to be a 2 parter. 1st how to make them and 2nd making the custom cover.
Great collection, we need Disney to release to 1st 3 with the option to watch OG cinema cut . That was the best version, the cgi and addition of cut scenes and voice over changes just ruined what was perfect.
Thank you, I wish it would have never been an issue. I suspect that there is something with that original version like maybe it was part of the divorce or something. It would explain the attitudes towards it and even including them on the original DVDs as a special feature was something odd, because it wasn’t a great version and really small on your tv. I always thought all the changes where so George could maintain the rights to the newest versions and that’s why they exist. People have argued this for a long time now, but none of these people/companies would turn down a way to print money. There has to be something to those original versions more than what is being said.
@@80sMadeConsumer The Special Edition changes were there because George wanted to implement things he wasn't originally able to, either due to technological or budgetary constraints (this is most obvious with the hellish production of the first film; he always said A New Hope was 30% of the film he wanted to make.) As for why they haven't been released: I don't know if I'm recalling this correctly, but I do remember hearing that the Special Edition changes were made to the original negatives, and releasing the original versions would entail a very expensive set of procedures to clean those up.
I last watched the Definitive Collection trilogy the 1995 Japanese release, and Phantom Menace Japanese release. I mean to replace my scratched and unplayable Prequel DVD discs I loaned out. Though I do have the 4K, and the 2011 blu-ray set. It's always been a New Hope in the roll up since 1981 Though the box art original just said Star Wars and us kids called it Star Wars, crazy right. The theatrical has never been on home video ever, even the 2006 DVD is facsimile with the 1993 audio mix. and the original crawl tacked on and stabilized. The original has absolutely horrific camera shake and looks like it was shot on top a trash can. For real, it started being marketed as a New Hope in 1995 for the one last time reissue. The novels and comics also changed their title from Star Wars, to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Same year.
It is crazy how many versions of the movie there are. I did forget about the crawl since I've mostly been watching the despecialized version they use the original crawl. I think as a kid we never called it a New Hope, it didn't seem common place until I was an adult. I thought I read somewhere that the camera shake was done on purpose to add a little something to the special effect.
@@80sMadeConsumer , I still call the film Star Wars. Some things never change. Just like I'm never calling Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Thankfully that wasn't even changed in film just on box art. The Mark Hamill QVC is a true story even parodied on SNL. He hadn't done SW autographs since the 1980's so fans who bought that were lucky, I guess, pre-Star Wars celebration and the conventions with people seeking his autograph. Star Trek had been doing conventions for decades before Star Wars did their own. I've chatted with Harmy on OT, I don't know him all that well but I like and admire him.
@ yeah I remembered watching it, and that always stuck with me. My parents tricked me and told me to go watch it and write everything I wanted down. They then took my brother and sister somewhere. I never got anything. Raiders will always be Raiders, although that one is easier to accept than a new hope haha
Hope you have a merry Christmas. Do you have secrets of the force? It gives everything except for the 2024 shows and movies except for the acolyte. I actually got the special edition versions of episode 1 and 2.
Thank you, and a merry Christmas to you. Secrets of the Force the book? No it’s on my radar, I’ll add it to my wishlist now that way I won’t forget. Nice on those special editions.
Yes I did! The live streams will be the same, but I splurged on a dedicated camera and new light setup for videos. Still dialing in the microphone, thanks for noticing I was hoping for a better viewer experience.
I don’t sell them, but I’m working on a video right now showing how to make them. There is a gray area with homebrew movies, and sometimes can be found on eBay or I’ve seen them on Showtown Apparel. These are homemade or home brew versions not official but absolutely amazing.
I'd rather buy the "home brews", I don't have time or equipment to make them. People need to quit trying to be so overly goodie goodie and just sell the damn things.
@@Mike_Webb78 I can understand that, but there are legal repercussions to selling them and making them falls in that gray area. With Disney’s lawyers no thanks. The people that made these versions can’t sell it, and the downloads are free yet not always the easiest to find. I’m not telling you what to do if it works for you cool. I saw these for sale and very expensive. I picked up a Blu-ray burner that was 4k capable for about the same price.
As far as I'm concerned, there's only the original Star Wars trilogy. THAT'S Star Wars. The prequels were just an unfortunate byproduct of George Lucas' rather late midlife crisis, whereas the Disney trilogy only exists because a few people were desperate to get their hands on that sweet Zoomer cash. That said, I do think the Complete Saga box set you have is the very finest Star Wars release of all time. It may not have the 4K discs, but it's got the nicest packaging and the best extras.
