Thanks for all that detail. I did do a conversion once to see how that all worked and whilst it was easy to transcode the h265 files the actual files themselves were massive.
Yes, the Proxy Mode is the better mode in terms of storage, but HQX conversion will give you great performance and quality. The problem is that Canon did use a codec for that particular camera that is really hard to work with. EDIUS was the first editor to support the camera, but still, it is hard to decode.

What about Canon XF705 H265? What PC set up do I need to guarantee smooth playback in editing
Canon XF705 has a H.265 in 10bit 422 which is compressed a single slice video format. That is very untypical. Normally multi-sliced is used and there, many cores can decompress at the same time. intel and EDIUS are working on a decoding with the 11th Generation intel CPU with QuickSync to decode this format in Realtime, but right now Intel has still not finalized the SDK for the integration in EDIUS. So it will take more time. Until then, we suggest to work in Proxy mode or use the new Transcode function and Convert to Grass Valley HQX in MXF container for a perfect and smooth playbay while keeping 10bit 4:2:2.

I'm waiting for EDIUS to support AMD and NVIDIA hardware decoders，Let users have more hardware choices，Intel's products are not competitive today. I often edit all kinds of nonstandard video formats, in order to stability，I can only choose EDIUS.The quality of BMD cameras depends on luck, and the warranty in China is troublesome.
Yes, more hardware decoder support is already on the wishlist. But the power of intel QuickSync is really great with EDIUS and also quite inexpensive. So for most users a intel CPU with intel GPU is the perfect choice. GPU pricese are very high since over a year, so it make the whole system much more expansive. But still: Yes, it is under development to support also other hardware decoders than intel QuickSync.

China government is cracking down on Ethereum and bitcoin. China's miners account for 1 / 4 of the world's total. The price of graphics card should return to normal soon. At that time, we will be able to buy cheap AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards.
In addition, I have intel 12 gen (core i7) engineer processor, with more CPU cores ,but little change in architecture; The core graphics card is still uhd750. At present, I don't have igpu drivers. They are also very busy, because they are preparing to launch Xe DG2 graphics card.It may be several months before Intel hands over the SDK to EDIUS.
