Nice to see someone who actually knows how to run a Bellsaw. Logs being turned properly, dogs adjusted and used properly, minimal time spent out of the cut, swinging arms on log deck, blade guides located just below the shanks. Beautiful. I see you have to hold the setworks pawl tight to the ratchet gear as you shift the log - which is unfortunately common on Bellsaws, but holding it like that will help it from slipping and wearing out. Love the resaw with the Swede roll dumping the cants onto the inclined belt. Excellent job all around. A lot of mill owners could learn a thing or two watching this video.
Thankyou, it is nice to know there is somebody else out there who knows what they are looking at Note - it is actually running smoother now, I changed one of the bearings on the arbour and the top of the blade does not even have a light flutter in it anymore.
Having been a customer of McGoverns for a number of years I can say Don and Joanne are stand up folks. Love dealing with tradesman that are passionate in what they do and do things because it’s the right thing to do! You guys rock!
I see you have the same old Belsaw issues. You’re grabbing the ratchet dog so it won’t slip on the notches and the set screw on the carriage shaft needs tightened. Same as mine. 😂
i have to make a bit of a retraction/in the winter time in canada the grease was cold enough that it caused enough drag/i had to go back to the drag bolt when things thawed out
Can I ask what size your sawblade is and is it the standard Belsaw bearings and mandrel and what are you powering the mill with and is the arbor nut counterclockwise or clockwise thank you
48 in blade/saw side belsaw bearing casting /out board bearing pillow block/mandrel left hand thread/arbor shaft up graded steel to schedule 4140 /approximately 3 times stronger than mild steel

I have that mill ,,, my cam locks or log dogs do not work that great . He makes it look easy
i sanded the 1/2 x11/2 bars smooth and then spray them with silicone
I've seen the man/mill produce a 12' - 16' eastern white cedar 8x8 within a 1/16" of square

i do not use the the shaft tightening bolt any more /i just put a heavier weight on the scale so it pulls back/makes moving set works easier
