You forget to mention that PLA still has political commissars at every level.Which is quite unique now consider Soviet Union get rid of theirs and in the end couldn't control their own military.
U forgot to mention Soviet Union declined comissars in 1942 and won ww2 without political commanders, that became battle commanders or privates depending to their abilities. Also Red Army accepted officer system in 1943, almost the same as in Russian Empire.
@@tanjeeschuan4999this is effectively how all modern militaries work. Socialist states are just open and direct about it while liberal states put up pretenses of being otherwise. You couldn't be an open Communist in the US military if the US had a serious and powerful Communist movement for the same reason the Chinese aren't interested in letting globalist aligned liberals into their army. It's a direct threat to Chinese sovereignty in general, not just the CPC
If you’re China when it comes to military build up you’re stuck in a dilemma. If you build up your military of course your rivals aren’t going to like that. But if China doesn’t build up its military then it can be exploited by others. This isn’t even speculation, just look at China during the 1800s and 1900s. Warlords took control of the country, foreign powers established their spheres of influence, British opium planted in India flooded their black markets, and then of course Japan invaded numerous times. In other words, if China builds up its military it will be called a threat and if it doesn’t it will be threatened.
There could be a simpler solution though. For example, instead of an aggressive build up they could try a steady and slow military buildup. Diplomatically speaking, aggressive wolf warrior tactics isn’t really helping them. Having a friendly and looking as non threatening as possible for as long as possible would’ve given them more time.
@@Apple.CC.technomail America has bases all over the pacific, including South Korea and Japan. How would a slow military build up make any sense? I mean imagine the reaction if China had major military bases in Mexico. China DID go the diplomatic route. Look at history! The diplomatic and friendly route hasn’t exactly worked for them seeing how the British flooded China with opium when trade wasn’t going their way or that Japan invaded them and committed some of the worst atrocities in history.
12:40 correction: 8 cruisers, or 0, depending on classification. PLAN classifies 055 as a destroyer by functionality, while the US classifies it as a cruiser by tonnage.
"Suffered heavy losses but were able to gain support from the Soviet Union" Is selling the chinese in the Korean War short. They had a lot of interesting tactics to counter superior US firepower and arguably a better grasp of the operations part of war.
Not really they were fighting a way superior opponent who had every advantage, I will admit tactically and sometimes strategically they would do some good maneuvers (Chosen being the biggest highlight) other then that it was very attritional, the loses they incurred basically stoped any hope of a Taiwan invasion for a very long time
@@enriqueperezarce5485 Taiwan's official name is Republic of China (ROC), according to its own constitution. ROC and PRC are still in a civil war situation.
@@enriqueperezarce5485 I mean the fact that the Chinese managed to fight the US to a stalemate while contributing the majority of the boots on the ground says something. Especially when you consider that contrary to the narrative of human waves, by the end of the war the number of Chinese and UN troops in Korea was pretty similar. I think people are quick to point to Soviet support for why they were able to do so, but there's only so much air power can do to affect the outcome of a war.
@@enriqueperezarce5485 At that time, Korea was a way more important than Taiwan was. I mean US had the airpower for the whole duration, so the PLA knew this very much that this could be very attritional.
@@dirtysniper3434 There's no external Treaty, only Article 9 of the Constitution forbidding Japan from carrying out offensive war. Which can really be interpreted as loosely as you want.
Well I was expecting to see how uniforms from ancient China evolved into what they are today. But still this video was a good one to listen too. So nice job.
Fun fact : The official name should be CPC (Communist Party of China),CCP was originally from western media, which they want people to relat it with CCCP, in UN they only use CPC, NOT CCP.
Well it doesn’t exactly match up with what is being said. But it’s because China and the Soviet Union split along ideological lines with China seeing the Soviets as abandoning the Marxist-Leninists. And well Albania didn’t go along with the Soviets so yea China saw itself as defenders of their ideology.
It's kind of ironic that the west both label China as aggressive but also laugh at China for not having enough combat experience since they haven't fight a war since 1979.
However, the reason why China lacks combat experience is that they don't need and have no idea of foreign aggression at all. For them, it is more important to protect their country and quickly organize forces to rescue in earthquakes, plagues and forest fires.
Both can be true, they are very agressive when enforcing the nine-dash line, for example. Doesn't mean they have combat experience as you'd find in an actual combined arms war.
The experience of the United States is also to bully some small countries. These experiences lack reference significance in dealing with countries with comparable strength.
Finally a video on the Chinese army. But why isn’t it an evolution army uniform video like that of the video on the Japanese, French, American, Russian, British, and German army videos? Edit: China's modernization didn't just begin under the communist and after the Korean War, China's army modernization had begun since the Self-Strengthening Movement in 1861, under the Qing Dynasty (China's last imperial dynasty). Ever since the self-strengthening movement, China has adopted western weapons and tactics.
Prob doesn’t want to mention the millions upon millions of deaths that it took to reach the point where they are now. China doesn’t exactly have the cleanest history…
And the coast guard. We can add many more ships to the navy. Personal fishing vessels can be conscripted during war under laws passed at the beginning of the modernization process (I suppose to be used as transports? idk the value)
PLA actually didn't officially went into Korean war. It was the Chinese voluntary army, made by volunteers across the entire country at that time, including to farmers, workers, and active military personels, who went to the war.
The CPC actually did want to interfere, as If the south won the war, the Americans and the west would be right at China's doorstep. It was called a volunteer army to lessen the perceived interference by the CPC.
@rowdymacias9393I don’t get why being conscripts or volunteers would change the definition of it being a full military intervention. The Americans sent in a lot of draftees for Korea and still maintained that it was a police action.
PLA has already abandoned gorilla warfare tactics by the end of the civil war. PLA fought with the ROC with conventional war tactics. Also fought against the Americans in Korea with conventional war tactics
Not really - the PLA are an army trained in assymetric warfare. They are all about maneuvering, and they are not that rigid compared to the Soviet Army - they emphasize independent action in the field in ways that we in the West have NO IDEA!
@@Jamhael1 You, are convoluting gorilla warfare with mobile warfare. PLA's mobile warfare against ROC and in Korea (as PVA) is fundamentally the same as German Blitzkrieg and Lorraine Campaign. Example of conventional battle: Huaihai Campaign, Battle of Shuangduiji, where division size element clash in urban (village) warfare and trench warfare. ROC's entire 12th Army, 120k men was surrounded and engaged in a ~5mile area (7.5km). At Yudam-ni, Battle of Chosin Reservoir, ~8k Marines and 15~30k PVA engaged in fighting across a 4-5mile area.
@Mrwhomeyou the PLA combine guerrilla warfare in large scale, only appealing to a more traditional way when no other path is viable, and in the last had ocurred in the Korean War, when the "large scale guerrilla" simply could not be applied.

I hope Indians can read carefully and experience with their hearts. The huge difference in the founding of China and India determines the biggest difference between India and China. Just look at the modern history of both countries and you will understand. India has been colonized by Britain for more than 200 years. In 1947, Britain experienced World War II, its strength declined significantly, and its status was replaced by the United States. India achieved independence through non violent and non cooperative means. In other words, India's independence has not undergone the test of blood and fire. Such an independent country lacks cohesion, willpower, and a sense of national identity. Now let's talk about China. Since the British defeated the corrupt and incompetent Qing government in 1840, the Chinese people have been living in dire straits. Various disasters and wars followed one after another. At that time, China was very poor and backward, suffering various humiliations. Including the cession of Hong Kong and Macau, Taiwan becoming a Japanese colony, the Eight Nation Alliance setting fire to the Old Summer Palace, and subsequent Japan's comprehensive and brutal invasion of China. In 1931, Japan launched a full-scale invasion of China. From 1931 to 1945, the war lasted for 14 years. The Chinese military and civilians rose up to resist, fought with blood for fourteen years, and suffered 30 million casualties, ultimately achieving victory. Do you know why there are so many casualties in China? There are hundreds of reasons, and I will only give an example of one phenomenon: Chinese troops are in conflict with Japanese troops. Often, if the number of Chinese soldiers participating in the war is 100, they only have 20-30 firearms. The remaining soldiers did not give up resistance or surrender. They bravely fought against the Japanese machine guns and cannons with machetes, steel forks, and wooden sticks until they sacrificed themselves. This spirit of facing death as if returning home and never retreating is the Chinese spirit. 30 million casualties! Do you think this can happen in India? For India, it is zero casualties because their knees are soft. India will soon give up resistance. Do you know why there was the Nanjing Massacre? Due to the desperate resistance of the Chinese military and civilians, they will never surrender or give up. After Japan captured Nanjing, firstly to vent its anger, and secondly to scare off other Chinese soldiers and civilians in resistance. However, the Nanjing Massacre not only did not deter any Chinese people, but also further aroused the resistance of the Chinese people. The establishment of New China has gone through the test of blood and fire. Do you know why the Chinese national flag is red? That's because the establishment of New China was bought with the blood of countless Chinese ancestors, and we Chinese people will always remember it. From 1945 to 1949, during the Chinese Civil War, the Kuomintang fled to Taiwan. Originally, the Chinese people thought they could live a peaceful life they had longed for, but in 1950, the Korean War broke out, lasting three years. The Chinese People's Volunteer Army successfully resisted the northward route of the United States without air superiority, sea superiority, outdated army equipment, and extremely poor logistics, at the cost of losing hundreds of thousands of brave People's Liberation Army soldiers. As for India's unforgettable and shameful 1962 Sino Indian War, in the eyes of us Chinese, it was not a war at all. Firstly, it only took 32 days. Secondly, from 1959 to 1961, China experienced the most difficult three years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, during which many people starved to death. In 1962, India's economy far surpassed that of China. Both the United States, the Soviet Union, and Britain support India. At that time, India implemented a "forward policy" and attacked China with elite troops. We Chinese people really don't want to go to war. The Chinese troops that participated in the war with India in 1962 were ordinary border defense forces, not regular People's Liberation Army. In China, soldiers are known as the "cutest people". There is a Chinese proverb: without a country, there is no home, and soldiers are the backbone of the country. Thank you to our brave soldiers of the People's Liberation Army who are always ready to defend the borders of our motherland. No matter how India develops its military, it cannot surpass China. Whether in the past, present, or future, China can always defeat India. This is determined by the history and culture of both countries. Chinese people value the spirit of dedication and sacrifice. Do not surrender, do not surrender, vow to resist to the death, and face death as if returning on the battlefield. If Chinese soldiers surrender on the battlefield, it would be a great shame, and the spirit of dying rather than giving up is deeply engraved in the bones of every Chinese person. These are all things that Indians do not possess. So, even now or in the future, India will never be able to defeat China. Now, do you think India can stand tall in the world like China? Absolutely impossible.
I think India's military history has most of its ties with foreign powers. A lot of Indian military equipment is not Indian. That will take a while to get over, but I absolutely expect it to be achieved.
Yes they do. For example, in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, America's military was mobilizing for emergency response. Almost 10,000 National Guard troops were on the ground in Louisiana and Mississippi.
@@Meow-yj1ql There are undeniably examples of the US military, but obviously not every disaster, such as the fires in Hawaii. But China, I guarantee the people's army will be there for all natural disasters, history proves that

I hear people complain about it just being all action and no story but that’s a terrible misrepresentation. It’s an amazing story told with a few words as possible and that sets it apart from most modern flicks. Love George Miller and I hope he keeps the story going!
Could you do a video on the battle of Alaska in World War Two? It was the Japanese invasion launched alongside the battle of Midway. It’s a hugely overlooked part of the pacific war. The American and Canadian forces were outgunned and under supplied, facing a vastly superior Japanese force while equipped with only ww1 gear and ships. If the Japanese succeeded they could have stopped lend lease to the soviets and raided the west coast.

Love the video Griff. Was wondering if you have ever considered doing a video on the Mexican American War? Like your take on Mexico's Revolution and their history during WWI you did a few weeks ago. But a video on the Mexican American would be a great visual for my students if you ever do one.
In the Korean War, China, then a poor agrarian nation emerging from civil war, fought the world's largest industrial nation and pushed the US-led coalition of 17 nations from the Yalu River on the Chinese border back to its present 38th parallel, which is inconceivable. They had Soviet assistance, but only the air force, and Soviet assistance to the Chinese military was so reluctant that it was minimal. From how little the U.S. military and even Americans talk about the Korean War, we know who lost the war.
The objective of the UN forces was to free South Korea though. Conquering North Kor was just a bonus. Not to mention, the US has to fight a war half a world away
The US/UN only really lost 개성(開成), but saved South Korea as intended and even advanced in the eastern mountains. Plus the surprise success of the PVA only lasted a couple months until UN combined arms tactics got refined at 지평리(砥平里), afterward getting consistently beaten back until they were able to dig in for classic trench warfare at the line that splits the peninsula today. But sure continue to gloat about 장진(長津), where the outnumbered Americans escaped with practically all its serviceable equipment and organization intact and still had space to rescue over 80000 Korean refugees, while the PVA ultimately lost almost half its fighting strength and totally failed in its goals to destroy X Corps and conquer all of Korea.
the US wanted to keep south korea alive. The US did lose, but so did the soviets and chinese. Neither wanted to commit to a long, drawn out war, which korea was quickly becoming, so soon after ww2. It was the lack of motivation from the Soviets and Americans that ended the war.
By January 2023 the US DoD estimated China to have reached 400 nukes. In October the DoD stated that China sharply increased its nuke arsenal by 25%. That's 100 nukes in less than a year, making China the 3rd largest nuclear power with 500 nukes.
LMAO this is why people need to read data though and not just take words as is. China IS number 3 in nuclear weapons but that doesn't mean anything when America has like 5000 nukes.
I am confused by the comments. US was involved in multiple morden wars in the past decades, and they are regarded as the good guys and peace keepers? Just wondering what people on TH-cam want China to become ... if the youtuber said Chinese army is so strong, people will say "China is dangerous and bad", but if the youtuber said Chinese army is a joke and they don't dare to fight, people will still say "China is weak and bad" .... so it seems no matter what the Chinese are doing, they must be bad LOLLL

Great general rundown of China's modern military. The 2049 target to be a "world class military" was a general target, it has most kirkt been pushed forward due to USAs and the wests continued aggressive actions against China. From chip bans to Aukus/Quad to more military bases in Philippines etc. USAs increased aggression has forced China to respond and likely speed up its modernization. Just like China moved forward it's space program, especially the moon base. It used to be like 2040-2050, now pushed forward to around 2030-2040. So they will have started building moon base by 2030 at latest and continue building it over the following decade/s.
Technically, military service with the PLA is obligatory for all Chinese citizens. In practice, mandatory military service has not been implemented since 1949 as the People's Liberation Army has been able to recruit sufficient numbers voluntarily. Residents of the special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macau, are exempted from joining the military. .
So many many mistake.Chinese volunteers have been described as relying on numerical superiority to defeat powerful enemies, but this is wrong. In fact, looking up the data, we can find that after excluding the Korean army, the war damage of the United Nations is still higher than that of the Chinese volunteers. And, after Dr. Gatlin's gadget, the crowd tactic has been proved to be useless. What is even more terrifying is that in the early stage of annihilating the intrusive regiment of the US military, the Communists were only armed with rifles, explosive cartridges and wooden grenades, and most of the soldiers were not even equipped with cotton-padded clothes (this caused a company of infantry to freeze to death in an ambush position, allowing an American army to escape). Now, OP is almost yelling at you on the loudspeaker, attacking the Communists is no different from eating a plate of French fries.
Idk but the Chinese soldiers shouldn't call them PLA on the Korean War instead they call them PVA (Peoples Volunteer Army) because the Chinese didn't want to wage another ww3
Yup it was going for plausible deniability even though the commander on chief was Peng Dehuai, a big general in the Red Army / 8th Route Army / PLA and would later become one of the 10 only Field Marshals of the PLA.
8:03 This one, I feel is more of a case of mistranslation and a different cultural concept for how to classify 'army'. The word in Chinese is 'jun'. This somehow is translated to English to 'Army', which is not accurate since China classifies all top level military organizations to this word. So the more accurate translation should be 'military' or 'armed forces' which is exactly what they are. For comparison, see the Chinese names of the ROC military.
If anyone doesn’t know what the stone monument is when China fought it’s last war it is Angkor Wat which is the exact reason why the people’s Republic of China declared war on Vietnam in 1979
Yes, that's right. When I was very young, adults thought that the United States would be stuck in the Iraq War for at least three years. As a result, the war ended in one month. This shocked the Chinese people at that time, especially the electronicization of the United States. The war taught the People's Liberation Army a lesson. Later, the People's Liberation Army also realized the new trends in modern warfare and promptly carried out reforms and informatization development.😢
In Chinese PLA is 人民解放军, army is 陆军, navy is 海军, air force is 空军, so the "Army" in People's Liberation Army only stands for 军, which means "Armed Force".
These saying about "lack of experience" is popular in China: 1. China lack of experience, but who want to be the sparring? If you can't find the victim, the only thing can do in peace is drill. 2. Asymmetric warfare experience is not PLA need, at least for now. And lot of Chinese military fans think US goes to the wrong way of focusing on asymmetric warfare. 3. Unmaned weapon is a great solution, more sweat for less blood.
China’s military is incredibly interesting, we still have to see if their military is up to task, China hasn’t fought a war since the 1970s, their military is either competent or not and the only way to know is for a war to break out

It's weird that both PRC and ROC has political commissars in their military
U forgot to mention Soviet Union declined comissars in 1942 and won ww2 without political commanders, that became battle commanders or privates depending to their abilities. Also Red Army accepted officer system in 1943, almost the same as in Russian Empire.
So does the Imperial guard and the 40k Ultramarines, and they're the most effective fighting force in the universe
@@tanjeeschuan4999this is effectively how all modern militaries work. Socialist states are just open and direct about it while liberal states put up pretenses of being otherwise. It's a direct threat to Chinese sovereignty in general, not just the CPC
actually the soviets didn't get rid of political officers the simply changed the name and their precise duties.

North Korea - Yes
Pakistan - Ok
Albania - wtf?
Well it doesn’t exactly match up with what is being said. But it’s because China and the Soviet Union split along ideological lines with China seeing the Soviets as abandoning the Marxist-Leninists. And well Albania didn’t go along with the Soviets so yea China saw itself as defenders of their ideology.
I hate North Korea
China actually gave a lot of weapons to Albania, for free, with zero political strings attached.
Albania was calligning with China more after the mid 1960s. We hve the insane amount of economic gifts to show for it. 😅
You have Hoxha to thank for that
It's kind of ironic that the west both label China as aggressive but also laugh at China for not having enough combat experience since they haven't fight a war since 1979.
However, the reason why China lacks combat experience is that they don't need and have no idea of foreign aggression at all. For them, it is more important to protect their country and quickly organize forces to rescue in earthquakes, plagues and forest fires.
Because that''s a typical propaganda tactic. Saying your adversary aggressive but not competent at the same time. Powerful and simultaneously weak.
Both can be true, they are very agressive when enforcing the nine-dash line, for example. Doesn't mean they have combat experience as you'd find in an actual combined arms war.
I mean they are doing brinksmanship around Taiwan, and also sending ships into Japanese waters occasionally. That’s aggressive.
The experience of the United States is also to bully some small countries. These experiences lack reference significance in dealing with countries with comparable strength.

The KMT soldiers who surrendered after losing the civil war in 1949 were involuntarily volunteered to fight the Korean war as cannon fodder.
"Volunteered" is certainly one way to say it.
BS!
@rowdymacias9393I don’t get why being conscripts or volunteers would change the definition of it being a full military intervention. The Americans sent in a lot of draftees for Korea and still maintained that it was a police action.

@@Jamhael1 You, are convoluting gorilla warfare with mobile warfare. PLA's mobile warfare against ROC and in Korea (as PVA) is fundamentally the same as German Blitzkrieg and Lorraine Campaign.
Example of conventional battle:

This is such a good and documented video. I will love to see if you do a video on India's modern military.
As a Chinese I have a question, that is, will American soldiers participate in the disaster relief?
美军不捣乱就谢天谢地了😂
Yes they do. For example, in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, America's military was mobilizing for emergency response. Almost 10,000 National Guard troops were on the ground in Louisiana and Mississippi.

@@MrkTanalso casualties not comparable

I mean obviously, due to the huge disparity in industry and firepower
the US wanted to keep south korea alive. The US did lose, but so did the soviets and chinese. Neither wanted to commit to a long, drawn out war, which korea was quickly becoming, so soon after ww2. It was the lack of motivation from the Soviets and Americans that ended the war.

LMAO this is why people need to read data though and not just take words as is. China IS number 3 in nuclear weapons but that doesn't mean anything when America has like 5000 nukes.
So China has much fewer nukes than US LOL

I am confused by the comments. US was involved in multiple morden wars in the past decades, and they are regarded as the good guys and peace keepers? Just wondering what people on TH-cam want China to become ... if the youtuber said Chinese army is so strong, people will say "China is dangerous and bad", but if the youtuber said Chinese army is a joke and they don't dare to fight, people will still say "China is weak and bad" .... so it seems no matter what the Chinese are doing, they must be bad LOLLL
TH-cam will punish the people who do the hard, real work for talking about history or politics to make their advertisers comfortable, yet every ad I see is either a blatant scam or NSFW-themed ad. What a sad state of affairs
If Russia is a superpower then so is France and the U.K. and Japan
There's only one country that fits the superpower status... Everyone else is a regional power
@@hamzamahmood9565Great powers. Regional powers are only able to influence their immediate surroundings/sphere of influence.
Brazil and India would be examples of regional powers.
Well they are also superpowers same with russia. U.k and France have both been superpowers since the end of ww2. Japan in recent history has become one and would be one if it ever starts a navy again.
Apart from Russia, the others countries could hardly take any decision of their own.
Iran is regional power saudi arabia is a regional power India is a regional power germany too france is a global power if you can projet your force around the world you fit in the global power

Stop with the hate😂
The idea of any country building a moon base in the next 20 years is laughable
@user-pi7md5br6f man has never set foot on the moon. The US faked the moon landings

I'd love to see a video on Poland because of their focus on military buildup in the modern age 🇵🇱
Poland is dependent on foreign weaponry. Poland should develop its own weapon industry

One mistake : the chinese ships have much more offensive missiles than the US ships.
Most of the US navy vos are loaded with air defense missiles.

Well, ar-my is easier to say than mi-li-ta-ry .
If anyone doesn’t know what the stone monument is when China fought it’s last war it is Angkor Wat which is the exact reason why the people’s Republic of China declared war on Vietnam in 1979

it's so interesting to me that america breezed through iraq in the 1990's so hard that made china rethink their entire doctrine
海湾战争震惊了我们,然后我们就变成了敌人的样子,甚至超越了他们
Do you know another name of PLA? “人民子弟兵” this is most important beyond all powerful weaponry
In Chinese PLA is 人民解放军, army is 陆军, navy is 海军, air force is 空军, so the "Army" in People's Liberation Army only stands for 军, which means "Armed Force".

These saying about "lack of experience" is popular in China:
Less blood, more sweat. Dont forget: "amateur talk about tac-tic, professional talk about logistic"😎

China’s military is incredibly interesting, we still have to see if their military is up to task, China hasn’t fought a war since the 1970s, their military is either competent or not and the only way to know is for a war to break out
