Im so happy to see this. I used to wear Brut as a preteen. My father was an Old Spice guy. I'm lucky enough to have one of his old bottles of the after shave. What I would love to have is the Old Spice EDT they released in the early 2000s. I believe it was called OS Signature and it was basically their attempt to make a higher-end offering to sit alongside the designer fragrances of the time. A friend of mine had it, and while it wasn't mind-blowing, it was interesting to see how they took the Old Spice DNA and "modernized" it as a EDT for a new generation.
I used to find both these scents in people's bathrooms growing up, including my grandfather's and uncle's. The perfume market was hardly as saturated as today's, so memory of experience stood out much more vividly. My grandfather and uncle are both gone. This was a bit nostalgic. Thank you!
Love this review and that you treat these cheapies with the respect they deserve. Vintage fougeres do have a sweetness (emotion not smell) that feels vulnerable along with a more hairy chested quality that results in a sort of relaxed masculinity. Such a different vibe than current trends. I remember Brut in my childhood as well.
Both of these are a time machine back to being a little kid. Dad, grandparents, pretty much every male smelled like one or the other. I absolutely love both of those scents for how they smell but also for all the memories and associations that are long gone.
My dad, born in 1928, wore Old Spice his whole life. I’m pretty sure it’s why I love carnation, clove, and eugenol (tho now out of style) so much. I have his last bottle he left behind after he passed, and fab some on at least once a year.
Love the OG Brut. Even some of the newer Unilever edts of Brut "Original" with the yellow juice often do it for me. Very warm and fluffy floral, albeit with terrible plastic atomizers. I was always a vanillin-lavender Skin Bracer man myself, while my father was the Old Spice and Brut man. Never wanted to mess with that association so I wear Brut sparingly; but it'll forever be right there with vintage Azzaro Pour Homme for me. Given its current price, backup bottle worthy. 😆
My dad had old spice, loved that smell.please more vintage fragrance videos🙏🏻 just put an order for grey flannel, one man show, zino, quorum and Sung homme
Brut, Kenzo Pour Homme, and Aramis Havana were the fragrances of my childhood, worn proudly by my late father. Certainly, I attribute them to my immediate infatuation with YSL Jazz, Aramis New West for Him (cylindrical yellow/blue bottle), and Rania J’s T. Habanero as an adult.
Can’t believe this. I wasn’t particularly interested in vintage/oldschool scents even tho I began collecting some 4+ years ago.. just about to order Brut edt and Old Spice colognes.. (after buying their matching deo sticks). Is this a coincidence or are you somehow telepathically reading my mind, Mr P? 😲😅
Both are absolutely wonderful to this day. Especially Brut. I have several vintage bottles, and even the current cologne (US) and EDT (UK) are beautiful. I decant the US cologne and wear it around the house or on errands. So relaxing. In popular culture it has this "brutish" reputation, but it is a gentleman's scent through and through. Just wish it had better longevity. The US one is a little less powdery and a bit more woody/oakmoss in the drydown. Quintessential fougere that everyone else copied. Sits along Green Irish Tweed, Guerlain Vetiver, Terre D'Hermes, and Eau Sauvage as must haves for any man.
Great video, i need to get my hands on that book;) im 29 years old and i use to wear the high end stuff channel, dior etc. However all i wear now as my daily drivers are brut and old spice. I have also both current and vintage of both and i love them so much. Grest to see these two icons being back out in the public eye. Its just a shame they have a bad rep and are looked down upon when actually they are hidden gems.
Awesome video! I love Brut and I’ve long been curious about vintage batches (I need to get a vintage bottle!). Great to see you reviewing cheapies - and classic ones at that! More videos like this, please :-)
Ive always had a bottle of Old Spice in my collection since the 1960s..and i use it quite frequently....esp at bedtime for the warm memories of days gone bye
Brut & old spice vintage version were true bangers❤ their current versions are just a pale shadow of the originals 👎 SARTORIAL by PENHALIGON'S is also very close to Brut original version 👍 cheers mate 😀🥂 Great throwback!
I've only recently smelled Brut. The Unilever EDT. I was amazed by how good it was. And how like Sartorial (which I already had) it was. Mr Duchafour sure owes a big credit to Brut
@@belairscents thanks. I was a bit confused by all the versions. I can only say that I rate the one I mentioned very highly and very like Sartorial. If earlier Bruts were better still they must have been amazing!
Dad wore old spice and I have a soft spot for it now he’s gone . Brut was to my mind nuclear and quite vile but as a teen have splashed it on just because I was curious as to why it was so popular.
persolaise! i must ask, have you tried any of the truefitt and hill colognes? some of them are very bland, but some others are surprisingly okay - bordering on very nice! thoroughly enjoyed this video, i remember the old spice original bottle in the family bathroom when i was a child.
Oh I love old spice as well! For a steal you can smell spicy and soft and sexy! It works on women too! I DO like the remake of the vintage it’s ok but def not as spicy 🌶️ !! But…I do not like all the “new”scents by them, that they try to bring out…they smell really bad the new ones 😢 yes my great grandpa wore this! And it smells good! Ha
So bummed I missed this Dad and father in law wore OS. The name old spice aged a bit better than Brut /brute toxic masculinity etc but maybe it's just cutely retro
This takes me back to my childhood and my grandfather ❤ I am smiling from ear to ear! Thanks for this Dariush!
Ah, thanks very much for watching.

Yes, the good old days of fewer releases.

Yes, they're definitely more laid back somehow. Certainly note brutish.

You're right: it really was Old Spice or Brut.
I just looked up Old Spice on Fragrantica. The fragrance it most smells like according to member votes is....Viking Cologne 😅
Well... that's just inaccurate.
Oh I missed this live, hilarious and wonderful subject. I’m going in 😂
Enjoy.

I picked up that same vintage Old Spice a few years back. It’s really lovely and very wearable ❤
I'm glad you like it too.

Oh my goodnes... One Man Show!
Even though they are very cheap and mainly used in aftershaves, these types of fragrances are important. Thanks for doing this video!
Thank YOU for watching.

There are much better vintage fragrances than these two. I have a lot of them.
Ha! I only read the perfume related thoughts.
Funny, my grandfather wore Okd Spice and my first “serious” perfume purchase was Epices Noir. I never made the connection until now!
Oh wow, that's amazing.

Oh, Old Spice has definitely aged better as a name. Was Brut ever a good name??!
4711? Old Guard cologne.
True.
This really is a curveball from the usual content.
In a good way, I hope.
