I think the reason the lighting system hasn't changed much is so that less powerful systems could run it so they keep the lighting super simplistic.

I think that the main reason why lighting in Minecraft wasn't updated is the fact that too many game mechanics depend on it
4:23 tiny correction: the bare bones resource pack was created based off the design from the cgi trailers as opposed to the other way around.

I think updating the lighting engine might just be way too tedious. Remember, Mojang has to deal with 11 years of convoluted code. Raytracing in java edition would be neat nevertheless.
This is why APB will never get it's overhaul....built way too messy.
Yet SEUS is making ray tracing shaders all by himself, no reason a massive corporation shouldn't be able to update the graphics of their game lol.
Well, they were prepared to tackle the ancient scriptures with the new world gen, so it wouldn’t be unprecedented. I think the biggest concern would be optimization, since Java isn’t really the most efficient foundation for a game that’s as big as Minecraft. The best upgrade we’ll get will probably be colored lights

@@refurbishedaudio4090 hey that was me when I was 9. when I upgraded to a PC that could do 60fps, years and years later, I thought it was the best thing.
funny thing is that "new PC" was still quite terrible yet that just shows how bad the old one was. current day my monitor and PC support well over 60fps but I still remember my early days of Minecraft.

The only reasons they didn't update lighting are:
-The fact that some people make shaders for a living (might not be true)
-Minecraft wants to take up less space, or be optimal when it can
Vanilla ray-tracing on default would change both of those factors.
Let me know what you think about my reasons.

The light stays the same so older computers can still run the game. That was an issue while making Caves and Cliffs, ensuring lower end computers could still play the game so that people could keep having fun. If they wanted money, I'm sure the lighting and graphics would be far more realistic for a blocky world, but they're also in it for players and creativity, that's why the lighting is the same.
then why can't they have it as an option for high end machines? like why don't they add Minecraft ray tracing to next gen consoles? it can do it, just mojang lazy.
@@KvVortex Pretty sure it's still pretty demanding when you program those settings. That's why there's a special download thing for Minecraft Bedrock with raytracing on computers, because it's demanding to program as an option. Also, totally different languages. Mojang isn't lazy, it's that most raytraced games are coded in languages like C+ (like Minecraft Bedrock), while Minecraft Java is... well... Java. Doesn't mean its impossible, just takes more time and less common.
In short, Mojang isn't lazy they're just making sure the game is optimized, doesnt slow down older systems, isn't demanding, and doesn't take more work.
@@relishlife8906 there's already footage of ray tracing in the bedrock version of Minecraft from years ago
@@KvVortex again, bedrock version only has raytracing programmed if the system can handle it, which is why computers require special downloads for raytracing on bedrock. And just because bedrock has it doesn't mean Java is going to get it or anything.
@@relishlife8906 again there's footage of ray tracing on the series x which means they could optimize it and add it for all users of the series x, and maybe ps5 if they decide too, since they can handle it. I never said anything about java that's different.

For the record, they did not use the "barebones texture pack", they made these textures ling before the pack was ever made. The pack was designed after Mojang's trailers.
I don't think they should permanently change the light but a toggle option would be nice
like built in RTX for both platforms

Nice video, appreciate the editing! Knowing the creator behind the Bare Bones resource pack I believe that he made the RP based on the trailers, so the other way around. I could be wrong though, I'll check with the creator.

Great video, good content, even better editing! Just remember not everyone has an ultra-gamer-gigachad-RTX computer like you, and that an increase in lighting quality might spell the end of even semi-smooth gameplay for most people. (myself included :/ )

How did you install the shader? Do you need OptiFine? Or what?
@@pryt0n180 If you are in bedrock edition (and have ray-tracing capable gpu), you don't have to install shaders.
If you are in java edition, you can use optifine, or Sodium + Iris mod.
If you choose the second option, you need to install fabric first to make it work.

I think mojang are intentionally refraining from changing the lighting. I think the way that minecraft looks right now is too much of a staple of the game for them to alter the lighting in such an intense way, especially since a lot of people have grown up seeing the game in as it still is. Plus its been made so easy to apply texture packs and shaders and change the games appearance as you please
The pack looks good, just sad that we didn't get an insight into how it was made

I think that the reason why they haven't changed the lighting system is simply because it *doesn't* need changing. If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it. It's alright the way it is.

The smooth lighting engine was implemented in 2012 not 2011, and in 2019 the lighting system was completely rewritten. Sure it doesn't look as sharp as other games, but it's not supposed to.

and if you wanna make it _really_ look like the trailers, use the fresh animation resource pack and the trainguy animation overhaul mod (for both fabric and forge either on release or later down the line) that will release eventually
animation overhaul isn't just by trainguy, it's by moonflower
He chose Bedrock so he cant.
