      No one clapped because if you see it carefully the instruments are all fake, its all either plastic or polyester. Everything is just moving and shooting balls, there's nothing cool about it. They literally just took the sound and played it while the machine did that. That's why no one clapped because people noticed also some defects like balls not hitting the right notes and literally making the sound without hitting it.

    Even though it is obviously pre-recorded, it is still amazing to see the animation that defined my grade school music class come to life!

  • @RobinHood3000
    @RobinHood3000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1731

    I just noticed that very early on, one of the balls (the seventh one launched) completely misses, but the note still plays. I think that means that the music track plays no matter what, and the ball launchers do their best to create the illusion that the impact is what's playing the music.
    Like, this is still absolutely bonkers in how cool it is that all the parts move and the balls launch in the right directions, but seeing that there's some trickery involved still kind of bummed me out.

    • @porg7063

      Casual Graphman it's because they're using pneumatics to control it. pneumatics are the most efficient way to control all of this. I've thought about other ways of controlling all of this but pneumatics is the most logical and least messy when something breaks. they could have used hydraulics but that gets really messy when something breaks and it would have required even more wires and tubes than are required with this

    • @taitano12
      @taitano12 7 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Casual Graphman They certainly could have, with more time. 90 days from concept to roll out. Give them another 90 and I'm sure they could have silenced the pneumatics.

    • @porg7063
      @porg7063 7 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      +Brandon Taitano they easily could have silenced the pneumatics. they just didn't prioritize that because making the machine functional and making sure the aiming mechanisms were accurate were prioritized over the noise of the pneumatics. if you think about it, the did actually prioritize the pneumatics a little. I didn't hear a compressor running the entire time the song was playing. they decided to either hide the compressor or hid a giant container with all the air in it

I stood there and shot the video at Design West. I agree that Intel's processors might be overpowered for this application but that's true in a lot of industrial applications where an embedded X86 processor is used for it's wide tool availability. i don't think anyone in these comments realizes it's a pre recorded audio. the marbles aren't actually making the music it's just a visualization. you can even see a marble miss near the beginning and the note still being played

  • @einsteinboricua
    @einsteinboricua 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    At first I thought this mimicked the video to perfection, then I noticed that it's all an illusion. The music starts at 1:14. At 1:23 you can see that the pebble meant for the 3 chord completely missed and went over the target across the set. At 1:30 we see it again...and at 1:33 two of them fail...at 1:37 the second set of chords begins its sequence and you can clearly see some of the ball missing completely.
    It's a cool concept, don't get me wrong, and at first glance it does its purpose: sell the processor. However, it's understandable if you're let down because it doesn't have the precision as in the animation.

      The demo is an elaborate, choreographed pantomime. The balls aren't playing the sound nor are they causing the lights to flash. They just appear to be. The timing is so good that you only notice the lack of sync when the number of balls in the air gets quite large. It's a great illusion though, isn't it?

      +Andy Yip You know, the original animation featured steel balls (which looked like bearing balls) which would've had a great enough moment and energy to make it reasonably loud. However those would have had to be shot with a much greater energy, which wouldn't have allowed for letting people that close. I mean just imagine a single 5 cm steel ball going astray....
