- Our live cover of "Delfino Plaza" from Super Mario Sunshine, originally composed by Koji Kondo. This arrangement by Patrick Bartley. Recorded live at Black Cat LES.
Super Mario Sunshine needs to be on the Switch. PERIOD. We need this classic back in our lives! And whenever anyone thinks of this game, the first track that comes to mind is almost undeniably Delfino Plaza. We tried to combine the original gypsy jazz feel of this tune with our own swing band small group approach (think Jones-Smith incorporated or any of the other Count Basie small groups from the 1930s/40s) - and a twist, of course! Wailing solos by Patrick on sax and Ben Rosenblum on accordion can be heard on this one.

These guys could cover any song, kill it, hide the evidence, and never get caught, but they only cover japanese video game and anime music. The dedication to the project alone is reason enough not to get mad they don't do anything else.
To be fair much of Koji Kondo's music is essentially just a long campaign of mail bombing love letters to the jazz tradition. It's great stuff worthy of being adapted into standards, which it normally isn't however due to its association with video games.
I swear, drummers exist on a whole different plane of music. Full body experience watching this and the other drummer keep tempo with their whole body. Love it

This is a remix I've shared with older friends and relatives. Many of them have never - and might not ever - play video games in general. Let alone this specific game. But they still enjoy hearing this. So now they understand what I enjoy a little better.
