Actually he can be put in prison for abandonment. Women really do have rights according to to the divorce courts. But they have to use the law!
You need to read the new laws the Iranian govt is passing. It takes away all womens rights and makes only Shar ia law legal. Women will have no rights, no divorce, no child custody, no support from husbands. It is going to make Afghanistan look like a paradise for women. They are also going to make it legal for men to marry 9 year old girls. It was just in the national news.
