Completely agree with you on the curls at the ends! I love mine and don't mind if it takes forever to loc. Thanks for sharing. It's so good to do things your own way and not worry about "the rules"! 😉
I agree with you about seeing your curl pattern better when you’re loc’d. I was so surprised to see all of the locs in the back of my head fall into individual curls. They are locking now after 4.5 months but many ends are still curly. I found that the hair that slips out from the locs on top of my head were a first big indicator how straight my hair is there. I enjoyed your video. I have broken a couple of those rules too. I washed my hair the second week. I hennaed it the 4th week and my locs are fine. I washed with a shampoo conditioner cleaners and I could feel the coating the conditioner left on my locs for a week when I finally washed it out. I did experience a lot of slippage that week too; so, no more conditioner for me until my locs are more mature. I can wait. New subbie here.
I live in Jamaica, and honestly I never met anyone that followed "rules". I only knew there were "rules" when I started researching braidlocs. I just do whatever, let my hair do what it wants, I've tortured it enough with braids, relaxer etc...so freedom. Where did all these rules come from? Locs to me are all about freedom in being you.
i dont braid and band, i dont wash often, i use grease and i retie whenever i want and i dont do a specific rotation i just make sure to not go through the same hole twice
Thank you for sharing your journey with us! I have 267 braidlocs and they are doing well despite not following the “rules” I did leave about an inch of hair at the ends of my locs because I loved the look of the curly ends, but I’m braiding them up now, since I didn’t like the constant combing out and manipulation of my hair to maintain the curl. I’m 7 months in also! ✨
I liked your video...I have been concerned about some of the things you mentioned because I see maintenance with traditional locs (I had for a year) is different than micro locs so I’ve been doing so much research since I started my micro braidlocs
Glad I found your channel. Good video... your hair is beautiful.... I am new to this journey. Only 3/4 months in... I braid and band and a lot of my braidlocs still unravel 🤦🏽♀️soooo some rules just don’t help 🤷🏽♀️😂Lol. How are you taking care of the loose ends? Are you using the curly pudding through the whole loc or just the ends? My ends unravel, with my hair being short I don’t know what to do with the ends. Any suggestions would be appreciated😊
Hi! Thanks for watching. For the loose ends, I typically leave them alone. If I want them to look super curly and vibrant I’ll add curling pudding only on the ends and use a blow dryer defuser to dry my hair. In the early months my hair unraveled a lot in the beginning, but every retightening day I would just just braid them back up. All the way down, not intentionally leaving hair out. My ends curled up on their own without intention leaving out to be curly.
Sup Fran W thank you for responding! I may try putting something on the ends. The back is good, its the top that unravels a lot. At first I was braiding/twisting it back but now it looks funny like scraggly ends because the rest of my hair is swelling. I may try the curly pudding I’m sure there’s some here in the house or something similar. I’ll keep watching your journey to see how you do things as you are months ahead of me 😊
I’m 2.5 months in now, my first time doing braidlocs. Now I totally get that I need to retie while damp. I retired once & it was dry. I’m excited to try it again & I’m excited to see this braid pattern disappear eventually.
I started my braid lock journey 2mts now I have 19 inches in length if I dont braid and band for my weekly wash my goose is cooked!!! I have to rebraid every one of them. My ends are Curley I do bend a few rules, I did all my braids and retighten myself. Thank you for sharing.
You could comb the ends, another youtuber uses a dental brush/pick to separate the ends to allow the curl to remain.
Well I’ve reached almost two years and I still have my curls without combing them. So I think I may just continue and hope they stay.

This is nice to know that the 'rules' are optional from someone who is further along in their journey.

Best way to live tbh. 🤣🤣

I have re-tied my hair while dry since the beginning of my journey two years ago. Who is making up these "rules" 😂
