    I so feel you on the freedom aspect! Plus, if I wanted a loose hair look, I’d wear my loose hair. Micros are pretty, but they mimic loose hair and are a ton of work. No thanks! Twisted locs also too much time and $ , which works out because I actually prefer the look and feel of loose roots. Your locs are gorgeous! If I ever restart I think I will just start from a short fro and free form .

    You definitely could model too, I think your hair adds to your appeal. If the client doesn’t like it, their loss. Your friend probably didn’t mean harm, but I’m glad you spoke up so she knows not to do it again. Hopefully she took the info in and will keep it in mind.

      Thank you for all of the positive feedback! Your compliment is very sweet. Yes, my friend was very understanding. It's good to have these difficult conversations because she would never know otherwise.

    Such a great point about remembering why you got locs in the first place. I needed that reminder as well. Now I’m done with “maintenance.”

    7:00 you said it so perfect, people need to understand that our hair is our business. Black hair has been policed for centuries. We have to realize that this has nothing to do with being professional. Our options are being our natural selves, wearing wigs, being bald, or putting chemicals in our hair. Everyone else can be themselves but not use as black people. This is not a style...this is a way of life. LEAVE OUR HAIR ALONE!.. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾💯💯💯

      Yesss Fam! Very well said. "Black hair has been policed for centuries" we are our only solution! Thank you so much for sharing this

    Im 25 years in my freeform locs an I understand everything you said an it has alot of truth, I think very highly on you understanding the mind set, this is no disrespect to the rest of our loc family but I do see now that inside the loc family it has became a hairstyle or should i say not the freedom that is being expressed but the freedom that some have decided to take to express themselves in there beginning Journey that some are not in it for the same reason in free mind, so i don't feel you need to apologize for 1 or many that thinking all that extra twisting can help or hurt there true expression (wonderful freeform you have an the argument that the whole loc nation go through twisting or free formed or Sister locs)

    Greetings! Great information I'm sharing my semi freeform locs on YT as well. I've taken the route of no products: gels, butters,creams,etc. I've noticed the connection between high water content and hair/skin/nail growth. new subscriber!

    Damn the part at the end about your mama having your wait until 13 but you still got chemical burns 💔💔💔 As a mom myself now that hits different...not in my house, not while mine are underage. Even if it upsets them, let's try something else!

    • @Hempresshill
      @Hempresshill  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed 👍🏾
      Fortunately I was only getting a Kiddie perm at that time. I didn't suffer the chemical burn until I was a little older, mabey 16, 17.

    Please stop with the loc hierarchy. Why and how people decide to lock their hair shouldn't be judged. I have waist long sisterlocks and have been locked for almost 13 years. I think all locs are amazing. I maintain my own hair and actually retying my hair is a great time for self care and just a slowdown from work which in this covid environment is high stress and high burnout.

    • @Hempresshill
      @Hempresshill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thank you for your feedback. I can only speak on my own experiences. Although it was not my intention to judge others I can see where it comes off as such. I will be more mindful of this in the future. Blessing on your continued journey.
