Thanks for posting this Chris. I was there at the beginning and to the end of the TalkShopLive event (Adrian D) but my questions were pretty much answered anyway before then. My favorite part of the event was where Mike thanked "mom and dad" (Harold and Agnes) which I felt was pretty cool. Karen was "the voice" and Richard was "the music" behind Carpenters and it really was Carpenters and not Karen and Richard or Richard and Karen but they both worked together as a team. And with that I feel "Carpenters - The Musical Legacy" is a great title. I had already seen in a different video and by my reading the book myself where the Ray Coleman book had a few things in it, but was off the mark in a couple places. Richard said something like "the anorexia book. It seemed more like Ray was trying to get in Karen's head than being about Carpenters" or something like that which is true. There were a few things like the motorcycle accident in January 1973 and such mentioned in Ray's book that don't get repeated by others. And yes, I am very glad that Richard, Mike and you got together for this book and are looking to be as accurate as possible. With that, I know Richard wasn't really involved that much with Karen's solo album and most of Richard's information was second hand from Karen mostly and Karen was trying to hide a few things from Richard and others. Also, that anorexia stuff is mostly second guessing by others that most of them had never really talked with Karen about it. And after seeing all that conjecture and subjectivity and mind reading and second guessing and such, it is just a difficult area as Karen isn't around directly to talk with about that stuff to be sure, so why should Richard, Mike and you second guess, mind read and all that other hoopla too that has just led to a big mess? Why make a bigger mess that can't be cleaned up without Karen's direct input? But with others and that anorexia stuff, you never hear anything directly from Karen about it and it is just all this second guessing and such. Richard isn't Karen. Thank you, Richard and Mike for trying to avoid another fiction coated mess like so many others out there now. But after the toilet paper shortage of 2020, I imagine people are glad that they had some stuff stashed away in their fiction library between "butt" and "cheeks" for when the need arises. Fiction is fine and non fiction is fine, but when fiction tries to be passed off as non fiction, it becomes used toilet paper. Carpenters was a musical group. A book talking about the music of the Carpenters with some personal history thrown in too. Cool! Edit, and oops, yeah, I had already pre-ordered through Amazon just after the announcement was made this year. Looking forward to it around November 16th or whenever. Things happen that can't be foreseen.
I love all of your music, vocals and orchestrations and writing. How I wish that you would record another vocal album too. You also have been given a unique sounding beautiful voice. I love it so much, that a bunch of years ago, I paid $40 for a copy. What God-Given gifts- BOTH - you and Karen were given. If I only could afford it, how I would love for you to produce and put music to and even sing my lyrics. Some of my biggest inspiration are you and Karen and Whitney Houston, Cece Winans, as I can do the lower and higher ranges. Thank you for blessing our lives. We look forward to what else God has planned for your life. Jesus, our Sweet Saviour, Loves you most. We are surely grateful to Him, for you.
