there's an interesting theory that the bus drivers are ditching Spongebob in Rock Bottom on purpose. they indeed bully him for not paying the ride and beating up the first bus driver.
My impression was that it was a scheduled stop, and he just kicked them off there because it was the closest stop
I’ve seen this episode multiple times and I’ve never thought about it like that.
I like how he suddenly has money for the vending machine but not the bus.
I think the gloves may be garbage from humans.

I totally recommend the episode "Scaredy Pants", but I would say save it until Halloween. It is THE SpongeBob Halloween episode.

The fish with lights on their heads are called anglerfish and they use that light to fool their prey.
Another fun fact is that only female angler fish have the glowing lure.
This wasn't My favorite episode as a kid but now as a disabled adult who can't drive and relies on public transit in small towns in the American South I understand what SpongeBob is going through. Before Uber and Lyft there were times when I had to flag a driver down to get home at night when everything is closed. This episode really resonates with me.

This one's a classic. Nothing makes sense and it's pretty eerie, but that made it so memorable 😂

Just so you know, the fish with lights on their heads are called angler fish. They're predators who use their lights to draw other fish to them. Luckily for SpongeBob, this angler fish was friendly.
The busses conspire against him for the balloon smacks from the first buss driver im sure XD.

What I love about this episode is that as a kid I used to think they made the fish look weird and creepy just to add to the spooky factor, not knowing that the sea creatures that live deep in the ocean actually look like that in real life! It just shows how much Stephen Hillenburg really displayed his knowledge of marine science into Spongebob!
I'll always remember how all of my peers talked for _days_ about Rock Bottom after it initially aired, especially having fun with the "accent".

The episode Frankendoodle scared me so much as a kid. Doodle Bob still creeps me out to this day. I think it is because I had a nightmare where Doodle Bob broke into my house when I was little. Looking back now, it is such a goofy episode and I would love to see you react to it.

There is a prominent fan theory that the buses are intentionally trolling SpongeBob on behalf of the bus driver he annoyed with his balloon. Like he radioed them not to pick up SpongeBob

One of my favorites. It's so silly. I liked that it was in a different setting too. Of course SpongeBob would struggle down there. Reef v. Ocean floor would totally be different cultures in a world like this. It's a fun little concept to have.

Im guessing glove world its a parody of Disney World, considering its disney classic characters who are better known for their humanlike characters using gloves
Years later, I've come to see this episode in a new light and why the things are in the way they were portrayed. The soil has scum literally acting like scum. Almost all of the deep sea creatures are terrifying just like real life. Surface level creatures yearn for sunlight and hate darkness because of predation. Anglerfishes with lights. Don't know about the buses, though. Maybe because they can't stay too long because of extremely high water pressure.

The tone and look of SpongeBob in season 1 is just magical and charming. No other season ever capture that relaxing atmosphere. I don’t know if it was early SpongeBob or it’s the cel animation, the time period? The cartoon of the 90s just feels so different than the 2000s cartoons in general! I guess it’s culture norms and society sifting through times.

That red fish who helped Spongebob was an angler fish I believe.
As for the busses, there's a theory that the first bus driver, who picked up Spongebob and Patrick, was so annoyed by SpongeBob that he told all the bus drivers on that same route NOT to pick up a yellow sponge. But again, this is just a fan theory. Makes sense though.

That theory makes no sense because the bus was established as being the wrong bus. The episode heavily implies the bus was originally going to Rock Bottom, because why else would they call it THE WRONG BUS?! Any kind of city bus stops at a bus stop. Not just any designated bus or scheduled bus.
Spongebob didn't even ask for the bus driver to drive them home. They just got on it! You ask the bus driver to take you somewhere before paying and sitting down.
I say all this because I am sick and tired of these ridiculous theories for everything that have either no basis, ignore the obvious, or omit what's been established, implied and what kind of thinking went into the writing. Especially when people like you think they somehow make sense even though they don't! I'm on the internet a lot and I see this so oftenly.
It's funny because people weren't collectively like this before when these shows came out. I really hate the modern day at times!

Sorry if this came off as too serious. I just see this all the time online when it comes to certain fan theories and headcanons, and many get too caught up in it. I worry it unintentionally colors others' perceptions and stuff. I wish you would at least have mentioned that it was a theory not to be taken seriously and offer a more logical explanation, though.

As a bus operator in NY, I don’t blame the bus driver for being annoyed and frustrated that SpongeBob hit him repeatedly with his balloon, but at the same time, as a professional, I wouldn’t just leave SpongeBob and Patrick in the middle of nowhere like that. I would tell them it’s the last stop and if they need to get back, just wait at the bus stop and I’ll be back in like 5 minutes after my layover and drive it back. If I did what the other bus drivers did here, I would get in trouble with my supervisor due to customer complaints and increase risk of an angry customer or get assaulted.
There is a fan theory that the same bus driver keeps ditching Spongebob. Probably he wanted payback for the battery Spongebob done with the balloon. Purposely tormenting Spongebob with the bus keep on leaving.

I find it pretty staggering how new species get discovered all the time. A majority of them happen to be in the ocean since we haven’t explored every inch of what’s down there.

if you're curious, Glove World is another recurring location in the show. there's a lot of recurring things in SpongeBob that should be easy for you to follow. just try not to think too much about how any of it could make any logical sense or your head will hurt. also Rock Bottom is located in an undersea trench which is usually home to the weirder looking sea creatures that prefer the dark.

I used to have the video game, SpongeBob SquarePants Battle for Bikini Bottom on the GameCube. Now I have it for the PS2. There's a level on that game where you go to Rock Bottom and if you go to the vending machine, an easter egg of the bus will drive by. SpongeBob also says his "advanced darkness" line or some variant of it.

I guess you can say SpongeBob hit rock bottom. Watching this episode as a kid was entertaining, but also frustrating when the buses wouldn't stop for SpongeBob. But it is funny seeing him get annoyed or angry. But i think anyone would rightfully act like that in that situation.

I think SpongeBob gets his money from his family since Krabs barely pays him. Maybe that'll be explained someday and SpongeBobs father tells SpongeBob to get a real job and that Krabs isn't worth his time.

As far as I know the deep sea in real life is so far down sunlight simply can’t reach there, so it’s always dark. Very much a setting for unnerving things
