I appreciate how you recognize the formidableness of orcas. Swift, agile, incredibly strong, intelligent and long-living. I live where they either generally ignore or passively observe human activity in the water, but if they decided we were an enemy, that would be bad.
If you think back, you'll notice Ramonda was just about to tell Shuri about T'Challa's son but Namor interrupted it. His son was also present in the scene where she meets Nakia.
Interesting fact about Dominique Thorne is that she originally auditioned the role for Shuri, but it was decided that Letitia Wright would get the role, and Dominique Thorne would get the role of RiRi Williams instead. And Dominique Thorne will be back in the upcoming IronHeart TV series soon.
As someone with an astrophysice background - a large vibranium asteroid hitting only Africa is unlikely. For example, the Chixulub asteroid that killed most dinosaurs (except birds) scattered detectable debris around the world. Similarly meteor showers are the trails of debris from comets that their tails leave behind. So finding some vibranium in the ocean is perfectly plausible. @10m30 - Yes, the MCU has used real news personalities in previous films, mostly when they are just on a screen rather than a live actor. @19m - Remember when Tony Stark was speaking at MIT and said "all of your projects are now funded"? That's where Riri got the money to build her own lab and cool devices. In effect Tony paid for the next Iron "man" to get started.
It's cool how they made Shuri's character development parallel Kilmonger. Both of them blinded by anger & revenge sought power, forsaking tradition & their duty as the mantle... but she chose different thanks to her time in Talokan and that little, but meaningful interaction with Namor's people. Also I love Namor and his people as villains in this movie, they had some interesting layers like you mention.
In this movie, we are introduced to a character named, Namora, who is the cousin of Namor. In the comics, she gives birth to a clone of herself, and she is named, Namorita. At one point, she joins a superhero group called, The New Warriors, and during one particular incident, she is killed, and because of how she dies, it begins the huge ‘Civil War’ storyline.
28:56 In the comics Namor's home is literally the Atlantis of ancient myth. Personally, I find this Mayan successor culture a more interesting concept. ^_~
There are very few times in life where a role is more than one actor, yet the actor in that role embodies the qualities of that character so well, its hard to think of someone else in that role for that temporary period. For me its people like Christopher Reeve as Superman, Chris Evans as Captain America, and Chadwick Boseman as King T'Challa The Black Panther. Rest in peace, kings (well, except for Evans, since hes still with us, of course).
Fun Facts about Namor: One of the first superheroes ever created for (what would become) the Marvel Universe in 1939 Fought along side Captain America and Bucky in WWII Marvel’s first Mutant, created decades before the X-men Aquaman is actually a ripoff of Namor, Aquaman wasn’t created until 1941 The Mayan backstory was created for the MCU, but most people don’t mind because it’s pretty dope
In the comics, T’Challa and Namor totally LOATHE each other, with an absolute passion, and it would’ve been so cool to have seen that play out on the big screen with Chadwick Boseman continuing to do the amazing job he started in the ‘Winter Soldier’.
Given that the Black Panther suit is head to toe, they could have had Namor kill him in battle at the start with a CGI suit. I think that would have been a better decision than an off screen death.
@@seanstopczynski we need more good movies like this in marvel. Marvel releasing mid movies and some bangers from time to time. Even tho the last few marvels movie is good it not up to the standard marvel have set
Namor was just basically saying to Namora at the end, "Relax. We don't need to go the war right now. Everyone is gonna come for the vibranium in Wakanda eventually. So, the war is gonna happen anyways. Shuri/Wakanda dodsn't really have allies, so they'll turn to us for help and we'll be in the war." Basically he's gonna chill and wait for Wakanda to tag them into the inevitable war with the rest of the world. I do think he has respect for Shuri/The Black Panther. He says that Black Pa ther is the kost powerful person (because Wakanda is the most powerful nstion in the world and also that she even defeated him, which is clearly not an easy feat or if it's ever happened to him before). I think he also was painting a mural of a black panther on when they were having that conversation, if I'm not mistaken. Also, T'Challa's son is the little boy who took the queen to Nakia when she came to the school.
Namora is Namor`s younger sister just like Shuri was T`Challa`s younger sister. Basically Namora is next in line to the Talokanil throne just like Shuri is next in line to the Wakandan throne.
Namor was one of the first superheroes/anti-heroes created by "Timely Comics" which would eventually become Marvel. His line "Imperius Rex" is his battle cry in the comics and over the years he's been heavily associated with the Invaders (the WWII equivalent of the Avengers that includes him, Captain America, Bucky, and the original Human Torch), the Fantastic Four (one of the first threats they faced/he has a massive crush on Invisible Woman), the Defenders (him, Hulk, Doctor Strange, and others), and the X-Men (he's considered "the first mutant")
Wakanda forever, Emme! 🐈⬛ When Mr. Boseman passed away, I thought to myself, "it would be so cool if 'Shuri' got to be the next Black Panther". But I also thought that it might not happen because of sexist fandom backlash. I'm so glad my initial impulse came to pass!!!
I enjoyed this movie. People gave it too much hate but what were they supposed to do with the main actor passing away. I think they did the best they could while also paying a nice tribute and respecting chadwick.
For 54:16 ... That's pretty much the gist of it. Even tho he kneeled, he knows that despite Shuri's and Wakanda's reluctance to attack the "Surface World", he knows that they'll (the Surface World) will eventually turn on Wakanda and when that happens, Wakanda will need their allies in Talokan. So even though he loss and yielded to Shuri, one way or another, he's gonna get his war AND have Wakanda as an ally. Great reaction video as usual Emme.
The cast and crew quite literally had a funeral service for Chadwick and we (as viewers) mourn with them. Anyone questioning THAT decision and still rambling about "recast" is an idiot.
So some words that come to mind that fit that sense you explained... bittersweet; resplendent; melancholy; pathos; sublime; PANG! that shite was pang! lol
The word you're looking for might be "Saudade: an emotional state of melancholic or profoundly nostalgic longing for a beloved yet absent something or someone. It is often associated with a repressed understanding that one might never encounter the object of longing ever again. It is a recollection of feelings, experiences, places, or events, often elusive, that cause a sense of separation from the exciting, pleasant, or joyous sensations they once caused." Could also be Desiderium, which is a similar emotion. Maybe Bittersweet Beauty or Sorrowful Splendor but neither are a single word. Bittersweet might be close.
Yes. I’ve waited so long for you to react to this. This is probably one of the best MCU films I’ve seen since end game. Very tributary to Chad wick Bosman (RIP), Ryan Coogler adding a cultural Mayan touch to Namor’s character who makes a good villain, plus it came out around the same time as my birthday which made it better.
it only took 85 years for namor to get big screen live action treatment. and props to the vfx dept for making his ankle-wing aerodynamics not look ridiculous. imperius rex!
I believe this film was truly incredible. Oh my God, Letitia Wright went through so many ranges of emotions so freaking effortlessly Grief, Anger, Apathy, Empathy and finally Peace! T'Challa character mean a lot to many people I was so happy they gave him a legacy to live on in.
I forgot about it once the movie came out. But this movie almost didn't get made. They honestly thought about just not making another. The director, easily one of the most talented and exciting new directors on the scene, left directing because he was so upset. Luckily, they came through and made this movie. There's much more Wakanda to come. Tv shows and another movie. Riri has her own show soon, Ironheart. I thought I was over Chad's passing, that happened during covid, it was rough. This movie just ripped open the wound, but was a very therapeutic experience. Was wild in theaters, people crying and quiet. It was great though.
Also, in the comics , iron heart has the voice of an A.I. version of Tony Stark guiding her (I believe). It'll be interesting how they adjust that in the upcoming series!
Fun fact.....Rhee Rhee Williams had already appeared in an unreleased Disney plus series called IRON HEART when she appeared in this film. Marvel has been making retouches on the show and it will likely make it's debut next year!

There was an idea for this film, but then they quickly had to change everything after the passing of Chadwick Boseman. His death really hurt the film. It also had to incorporate Atlantis in a way that differentiated it from the surprise success of the DCEU's Aquaman, hence Atlantis in the MCU was reimagined as the Mesoamerican Undersea Kingdom of Talokan. The French were also disappointed with the negative portrayal of their troops in the film.
