@asicerick Awesome video. I got hung up on the cutting the bumper part while doing my own install and had to come find a video. Stumbled across yours and was very helpful. Probably would have been helpful to start by actually opening the instructions and reading them. I had half read a bunch of forums posts before attempting and work on my cars all the time. I wasn't worried about the actually hitch install part. But so glad your video helped me out with the cutting the bumper part/locating templates in the instructions. Also very helpful that you put up the part numbers for the factory hitch/bumper sensor harness. I could not find that part number anywhere and had decided to skip the wiring for right now until I could. Thanks for all the information and help.
Just got this done on a 2013 Limited w/ ecoboost. Needed parts: 9A8Z-19D520-D - hitch, XL3Z-14489-BA - 7-pin connector, DA8Z-15K868-D - wire harness for a 2013. 2014+ seems to be the -H version. 4-pin and 7-pin connectors work perfectly. A lot of ppl that got this done seem to be only using the 4 pin but I can verify that the 7-pin connector will work as well. Too hot to be stuck in the garage so got the dealership to do it for $635 parts(335)/labor(300). Accept nothing more! Thanks for the video! It really helped me understand the process and needed parts!
$635 is a pretty good deal. My local Ford dealer is so lame they would not even offer to do it, even though they screwed up by not ordering it properly in the first place. Even if I offered to pay for it. LAME
My local dealership was offering to install it for $875, and that is not including the cost of the bumper, that is $325. Having my brother-in-law coming out next weekend to help install it ourselves.
Uhaul was scheduled to install the aftermarket kit this week. I can't fathom looking at that exposed tow bar. After reading bturnip and then finding your video.... I just ordered the kit and I plan on doing it myself. Actually costs more $$ but the clean look is priceless!! Wish me luck!!!
Just did this this weekend using your video and bturnip's blog as a guide. Took about 4 hrs but everything went well, so thank you both! One note -- I turned the 7 pin connector 90 degrees so that it hinges open sideways and two of the holes lined up, so I didn't need to tap any holes.
Great video. I wish you had showed the re-install of the bumper cover. My Flex was hit in a parking lot on the rear passenger side and it is loose from the wheel well. Any tips how to reconnect it better? Thanks!
Thanks. That sucks you got hit. You can see @5:29 where the three bolts are that connect it to the wheel well. There are some metal clips in there that the screws go into. I cannot remember, but there are probably some plastic tabs on the bumper cover that they (used to) attach to. If those are broken, you can recreate them using the Lord Fusor stuff I used in my bumper cover repair video series. I did that for my parents Camry that had the same problem you do. I did not film that for some reason. :( Good luck
@@asicerik Thanks a lot, I'll take a look at it after work. It didn't do much more damage than a scratch, but the bumper cover is sagging about a quarter inch. I hope it just snaps back together provided I have all of those clips. I'm trying to sell the car soon since my wife bought a new Pilot.

I just did this on a 2013 Flex SEL. At 24 minutes, the connector you're looking at will go into a hole on the back side of the hitch. Also, if you mount the 7 pin connector sideways, the holes line up perfectly. The SEL had all the fuses and relays already in the fuse box so everything worked just by plugging in the new harness except electric brakes since I didn't purchase the controller.
Great video and very nice install. I did the same install on my 2014 SEL earlier this year using bturnip's blog post and it went pretty much the same as yours did. I was delighted to find that the 4-pin wiring is fully functional. I haven't tested the 7-pin yet, but I seem to recall reading in a forum that the power wires are inactive without a braking controller connected under the dash. I don't have a trailer with a 7-pin either, but I'll find out someday when I get a camper. For others considering this install, here are the parts numbers from my install: 9A8Z-19D520-D : Trailer Hitch Kit DA8Z-15K868-G : Parking Aid Sensor Jumper Wire (The one in the video ended with -H because the Limited has a passive entry feature. My SEL without passive entry uses -G. SE would have a different suffix.) XL3Z-14489-BA : 7-pin trailer connector -W711482-S900 : screws for 7-pin connector (I had to tap holes for these as mine didn't line up either.) -W713445-S300 : 15-pack of scrivets (for those who want to order spares. I didn't bother.) Next project is the oil cooler install. Not looking forward to it. :)

No, talking about the whole thing. I can just see how this unfolds if I try to do this to my wife's new vehicle. I manage to get it apart, but break each and every item made out of plastic. Spend and entire day doing it, finally get the old bumper off and the new one installed and the whole thing put back together so you can't even see the roll of duct tape holding it together. Hit a bump going down the road and it all falls off and now not only do I have to pay someone to do it right but fix all the other damage I've caused. I know this from experience, LOL>

Well, after watching this there is no way in hell I'm trying this myself. I'm not sure what I'd end up with at the end. Time to go see how much it'll cost to have one put on for me.
Are you talking about the 7 pin? That is going to be an issue no matter what you do. The hitch itself is rated for the full class III. If you want the trailer brakes and all, you will have to get that bit sorted somehow. You can still get the clean factory look though. If you get a quote from the dealer (or anyone else) who will install this hitch and all the 7 pin stuff, please come back and let us know how much it costs. Thanks for watching
I gotcha!
not enough room to thread wiring from under the vehicle
Remember folks.
Put all the bolts in hand tight.
Then torque them down.
I recommend snugging the bottom bolts then tighten the top ones. Then torque the bottom bolts.
thank you
