Why Dell why??

- Despite all my efforts, it seems impossible that Dell will reduce the amount of packaging for their optical transceivers (SFP+ 25Gb/s). In the last few years, I unpacked about 8000 of these and it doesn't get better...

I worked for a company that had an IBM 3584 Ultrium Tape Library. It had Slots fitted in the doors which weren't accessible to the robot inside unless you bought an upgrade. We purchased the upgrade from IBM.
A wooden pallet was delivered from IBM with multiple large boxes - each box had multiple huge ring-bound manuals in every language for operating the tape library, and on top of all the boxes was a single small envelope with a credit-card sized card inside - the card contained a 6 digit code which we entered into the touchscreen on the tape library to enable the door slots.
I know exactly what you mean. I once got 100 network cards and one extra box with 100 of those useless warranty booklets.
We also got one CR2032 battery in a 40x20x10cm box. I assume the Lithium warning sticker was not available in a smaller version.
😂
Customer asked sales for increased packet throughput…the request was passed to shipping instead of engineering
Most irritating packing:
- curled cord for keyboard with a plastic sleeve that is taped at each end
- UTP cables of 0.5m with 2 binding ties and individually in a pastic bag
... but that is only for the difficulty of unpacking.
In your case there is also the waste of packing material!
We dont even buy OEM transceivers anymore. But Ive had this issue with HP as well. So ridiculous
Unfortunately I have no influence on the orders. Using third party transceivers would probably void the Dell warranty.
Jizus. Most sensible vendors ship in trays. Plus trays are PET plus a cardboard so super easy to recycle.
Even unsensible vendors use bulk trays....
Ah yes Dell being Dell :/ they should seriously reconsider these things.
its like full day of Christmas and Birthday
Yes but I can't keep the presents, only the packaging😞
Hah. That's not even bad. My occupation is industrial mechanic. One machine at work has hundreds of O-rings in it's components. For instance one miniscule service needs change of 24 rings for few parts. They're all packaged in plastic wrappings.
An alternative unboxing video
Because save planet and fishes die because of plastic straws 😂😂😂
Ah yes... that's the problem.
I recently saw a video where they had paper straws... Individually packed in plasic bags 😞
Do you have to use the transceivers they sell?
The servers are ordered and shipped from Dell with the tranceivers... in an extra box.
Ugh, why indeed!
I expect there is somebody in DEL thinking that they have saved the planet by taking them out of plastic trays and putting them in lots of carboard boxes.
Because Dell... 'nuff said :D
At least this time they didn't put the box in a box in a box with foam between every layer...
But they tie 20 small boxes together and put them in a bigger box. And if you order 200, you get 10 bigger boxes in one super big box.
First World Problems?😅
Maybe.... but some poor chinese have to pack that stuff into those boxes. And that's not necessary too.
Dafür betreibt Dell an anderer Stelle genug Greenwashing.
So much wasted unrecycleable plastic. Outside of just being a complete time suck for some SFP modules
🤦♂️
😂😂😂😂
