      Amen to that!! For some people, it’s ALWAYS someone else’s fault or influence! Zero accountability!! And to bring a baby into the world that you are clearly incapable of taking care of, just to get out of jail early so you can continue using - it seems premeditated behavior to me. The behavior of an addict that is no where near ready to face facts, take accountability and take steps to get clean. She is selfish! Poor baby!!

    I'm a recovering addict. And their is no one else who can help someone see what it's doing to themselves and those around them. You cannot do it for your children ,your friends, your loved ones. No one except yourself. And once I finally realized that because I tried for everyone but myself for a long time. But once I finally started to do it for myself I was able to get clean and stay clean. I've been completely clean for 4 yrs now.

      Exactly. I don't think anyone who hasn't been an addict will ever understand. It's never anything we want to do. We don't want to hurt people, we don't want people to be ashamed of us. But then you are so unhappy with yourself and can't stand the regret and letting everyone around you down that the only thing that makes that constant pain to stop is using. And it's not fair to anyone or ourselves but you just want the hurting to stop anyway possible.

    • @Itried20takennames
      @Itried20takennames 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      That is a slippery slope. Some areas did that, that kids were taken away if hard drugs in their system. What happened next? The hospitals noticed that there was a huge drop in births where the mom was positive for drugs. Sounds good (it isn’t), but then there were a few deaths (someone tried a water birth thinking we are frogs and it’s natural to shove a baby under water just when it first needs to breath oxygen) or near deaths (life-threatening infections from cutting the umbilical cord with a kitchen knife not professionally sterilized) of infants due to DIY home births.
      Sure enough, the addicts were just avoiding all prenatal care and doing amateur births at home to avoid having their drug use caught during medical care, resulting in some infant deaths.
      There are a lot of unintended consequences when you make legal changes, and you have to consider those.

      @@Itried20takennames Are you counting how often babies are born with some level of permanent injury, how well they do in later life, and how many of these babies grow to be addicts themselves. There is no perfect solution, but drug addicts, let alone meth addicts, just simply are not fit parents.

      A strong public service campaign needs to push birth control. Not only for addicts , but the baby for benefits crowd or just women who aren't capable of raising a child. Unfortunately, the religious groups carry too much power in this country for that to take place. How many children have their lives ended by monsters who don't want them? Prevent the births to begin with!

      She's crying because her life is over. I would be crying too if I were staring at at least 2 more years in jail, and possibly losing all access to my kid. And we don't know if the kid was harmed. Meth may not impact a fetus that late in the pregnancy, who knows? Jails are not places to deal with addiction. How is her spending 2 more years in jail going to improve her life or protect society? The problem is addiction, not the flaunting of court orders

    • @jenniferslatten6705
      @jenniferslatten6705 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to be asking why the hell they didn’t they lock her up in rehab the minute they knew she was using? This is a failure all the way around - if an adult suffers through withdrawal & can’t handle recovery, what makes anyone think a baby can? She never should have been released from custody - danger to herself & others though democrats & feminazis don’t consider it a baby until birth so my guess is that’s why

    • @Itried20takennames
      @Itried20takennames 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Here is why. Some areas did that (instant and severe charges for drug use in pregnancy) and the first thing they noticed was that in a couple months, they saw a huge drop in births to moms with a positive drug screen.
      That sounds good, but wasn’t, as next there were several infant deaths or complications from a rise in “home births”: one baby died because the teen parents decided humans are frogs so it’s “natural”to give birth in a bath tube, thereby keeping a baby underwater just as it needs to breathe air to the first time, or life-threatening infections due to umbilical cords being cut with kitchens scissors that weren’t professionally sterilized.
      So there is the problem….you can throw all the charges at the mom, but that will also hurt babies because the drug addicted moms now avoid all prenatal and birth care to avoid the charges. And back when every one just gave birth at home, it wasn’t uncommon for 10% of moms or babies to die, which does not happen in hospital births.

      @missusmurdermitts3758 not sure about this person in particular but in case they don't answer.... prenatal meth use increases risk of anxiety, depression, and attention disorders. It can also result in poor motor coordination, poor behavioral and executive function, and decreased self-regulation. There can also be negative effects on the heart and liver. And this is still being researched but scientists believe that prenatal meth exposure may put children at higher risk for drug use and drug seeking behavior later in life, not just due to socioeconomic factors but also because of changes in brain chemistry from the meth exposure.

I was 1 of the only kids who never experimented growing up & ppl would say I was SO STRONG bc I could w\stand ALL the peer pressure! But I tried telling them that wasn't strength! I come from a VERY LONG line of addicts on every side of my family tree & my childhood was ruled by addiction & all I ever saw was the HORRIBLE negative sides! So, I knew there was a very good chance I'd end up the same way. The ONLY thing saving me was that I'd never tried anything & as LONG as I didn't touch that line in the sand & NEVER tried it Even a little, I was safe. Bc u can't really want or crave or become addicted to something You've never had. So it wasn't strength that made it easy to turn down, it was ABJECT FEAR! But regardless, my point is, u know yourself & u set boundaries bc u don't want to ever be put back in that position! That's GOOD! Proud of you! 💖💕💖

    • @chilltarts

      It all drugs- meth, heroin, crack, even marijuana. Once you put substances into your body, they change the natural equilibrium in your brain (reducing some chemicals, making others go haywire and produce too much, etc). You will never ever get back to exactly how you were “before,” but with time you can come to a new sense of normal and the imbalance becomes much less severe.
      It is this chemical imbalance in the brain rhat makes it so hard for addicts to stop using, especially if they’ve been using for a long time (years/decades, not just months). Even after they have been detoxed, those new patterns are still wanting to be fed- the natural chemical equilibrium is still thrown off, and now it’s bandaid (the drugs) have been removed too.
      Anyway, my basic point was to explain why it’s not just an issue of self-control or having more willpower. That would be akin to taking a child at 5/6/7 years of age who has ADHD, putting them on Adderall or Ritalin for 10+ years, then taking them off and expecting them to “act normally” as an adult. Their brain has been altered to expect and need that drug to feel “okay”, and removing the drug doesn’t just solve the problem.
      Inpatient long-term behavioral therapy can really help, but not everyone has the money or the resources to spend 12-18 months dedicated to nothing else but giving their brain time to relax and reset in a safe and controlled environment. It’s absolutely heartbreaking how these drugs have changed our society and the waves of pain they spread throughout entire families and the whole community. 😢

    My mother worked with a woman who had two adopted children (around 4 and 6) who were born positive for meth. Sometimes I'd help watch the kids (with their mom nearby). I finally told my mom I didn't feel comfortable watching them, because I didn't know how to handle their challenges. They were nonverbal and in diapers, frequently had violent outbursts, and one had a feeding tube. But that wasn't the scary part - it was the fact that they both had uncontrolled seizure disorders and would have spontaneous seizures several times a day. At 12 years old, I wasn't equipped to take care of these little ones.
    With tons of support, therapies and medications, the older one was able to attend school but will never live independently. The older one eventually had to be permanently hospitalized because her medical needs were too severe and unstable.
    One of the reasons studies on illicit drug use in pregnancy/babies are so limited is because women struggling with addiction may also have little to no prenatal care, be using multiple substances, and have other health problems like malnutrition or chronic infection. With so many uncontrolled factors it can be impossible to pinpoint the specific cause of any problems the baby may have.
    It's a really, really crappy situation 😢.

    Neuroscientist here. Specializing in neuropharmacology and addiction. Want to address some of the inaccuracies in the channels statements. 1) the reason there are no “high quality” studies assessing the teratogenic effects of psychostimulants is because it would be unethical to perform those experiments. Best we can do is look for prior methamphetamine users and observe how their pregnancies are different from non-users. But that makes it very hard to say definitively that the drug is the culprit. Environments with drug use also have many other factors that could contribute to severe developmental delays. There are some animal studies examining these effects directly but we need to be cautious translating them to humans. 2) All drug effects are dose dependent. A single exposure would not be sufficient to produce any teratogenic effect I know of. 3) please stop stigmatizing addicted populations. It’s difficult to imagine what addiction
    is like. The best subjective experience I can imagine is that of profound hunger. Everything you do, think, and feel in those moments are 100% about identifying and consuming the drug. This is an intractable state without appropriate medical intervention and we as a society seem unwilling to fund it. Therefore, making this a moral deficiency worthy of judgment is profoundly detrimental. Naturally we can’t fathom her behavior because we’ve never been compulsively dependent on a substance.

It’s not like she was out on the street and addicted to heroin and unable to stop due to withdrawal - still NOT okay but a very difficult place to be in when you’re dealing with withdrawal and craving, especially when going into withdrawal can harm the baby too. I'm a recovering addict. I had 12 years clean and then lost my son and then got lost in addiction because I couldn't handle it. I'm not using that as an excuse I intentionally went back to using because I could not handle the emotions that came from losing my son and instead of going to therapy I chose drugs. I made the wrong choice. I don't blame anyone but myself for that. I spent 7 years in my addiction because I made the wrong choice. I now have 18 months clean. And I tell you right now coming back that second time was harder than getting cleaned the first time. But I have a strong support network and I'm not doing it alone. It's never easy and my drug of choice was meth. I spent a long time blaming everything except for myself but that was the addiction speaking. I fought really hard these last 18 months I've worked really hard these last 18 months and there are some days that it is just as hard as day one. But I choose not to give up everything that I've gained in my sobriety. My family my daughter my husband my freedom. All of that is worth fighting for. So I choose to work just as hard for my sobriety as I did for my addiction.

    The courts do let you have custody. My former step-daughter has 4 children. Kids are taken away and returned, taken away and returned. Vicious cycle. And now she collects a fat disabilty check on them because they all have issues. Why? Because the system feels children love their parents. Only children are forced to be with the people that abuse them. As an adult if you are abused you never see that person again. Abuse your pet, they take them away. So we know how the law feels about children. Its disgusting.

    I just don’t understand the drug usage that is so out of control. I worked with detoxers for 3 years and then got out of it because it just wasn’t for me. No sooner did we get someone detoxed and release them from the hospital and within a few months they were right back. Sometimes within a week. A few came back in body bags. Makes no sense and I felt like it was wasted time and effort which is exactly why I just couldn’t do it anymore. That and the violence / aggression/ manipulation they think nothing of just to get drugs from you.

    Something that should be noted is that it’s incredibly common nowadays that when a person is put on probation for drug offences, they are either transferred to Felony Drug Court which is an intense drug treatment program, or, required to participate in in/out patient treatment. As and addict myself, 4 years sober, a universal truth about addiction and recovery is accountability - only the addict can get sober. I certainly hope she makes the choice and puts in the life long effort to turn her life around. At some point you become the ‘bad person’.
