You're right, this was definitely not out there, lol. I've never seen this before, and I've been scouring the internet long before TH-cam was ever a thing lol. I recorded all the BBC Highlights shows to VHS from 1989 to 1996, as well and never come across this lap. An outstanding upload in 2020!

I personally really like both, Adelaide was great, but Melbourne is a worthy replacement. On a side note, i also like the scenery at Melbourne around the lake, it's just a nice race track and provided lots of good races. The reason why Adelaide was more exciting, is due to the fact that it was the last race. Not saying Melbourne was better, but they're not too far apart in my opinion.
100% correct. No even close. Adelaide is a real street circuit. Bumpy. Slow corners. Fast corners. Small elevations. No run off areas. You name it, It has got it. An awesome track.👍
There's a story I tell my grand children (or anyone who will listen). I'm not sure whether it's just Silverstone, but until the BiG race all you can hear is choppers, when they finally fall silent for a precious couple of hours or so, you can really hear every nuance of the cars. The sound of Nigel flicking down a gear for Stowe at the end of the hanger straight, with that V12 then howling up to who knows what, 17-18 thousand rpm, is a sound I will never ever forget, it moves me even now just thinking about it. @@Jusuff Yes, peak power was produced at just under 13k revs, but as I said this is a yarn for the grandchildren, and anybody else in awe of such theatre, so a pinch of exaggeration was desirable. Anyway, in the heat of battle, flicking down a couple of gears on that dodgy gearbox, the over rev was quite likely to be "who knows what". All I know is I was there, and it certainly sounded like it!

I'm playing Assetto Corsa and just d/l this car and track. Never driven Adelaide so I came here to see how this circuit is driven and luckily Nigel is commentating exactly what I need to hear, lol. Awesome stuff. Need to adjust gear ratios now.
Mark Dale, totally agree. He may not have as many championships as others (he was robbed of at least 2 by reliability and had Williams kept him in 93 instead of going for the little French bloke, he would have won then too!). The best balls out racer of them all in my opinion.
Little french bloke was well in at Renault, so don’t think sir Frank and Patrick had many options. The fact that he was a three time champion helped as well!

Mansell became greedy when he won the championship demanding all sorts of pay and Frank Williams after many persuading finally snapped and agreed to pay Mansell what he wanted except there was a problem. FW already signed Alain Prost to partner him. Alain had no problem being Mansell's teammate again the team agreed on those two in the seat and everything yet the one who broke the agreement was Mansell himself because he didn't want to partner Alain because he already saw what happened in Ferrari. Prost swept the floor with him. When he heard the news of Alain signing he went from demanding millions of dollars to quiting F1 and signing for Indycar where he went to race in a less safe environment for less than double the money he wanted for his world championship. So yes he definitely was afraid of getting beaten by Alain again.

Although he too never wanted Alain Prost as his team mate because of how Alain could get the team to work/prefer him, but I also think Alain had a choice of veto-ing Mansell out. And Senna too. But Alain withdrew the veto on Mansell once he decided to not race the '93 season.

Yes I think AP used a 6 speed box Nigel preferred to use the 7 speed option,, he had more experience of the semi auto box than AP in 1990,, great video,, it really shows how hard the drivers were made to work even in those days!

Yes indeed, it's the natural rhythm of a lap, like a musician counting time. I consider the building of a perfect lap to be akin to a piano sonata or similar, every note, it's timing, it's duration, and it's every nuance has to be just right, one after the other.

It’s no wonder Mansell experienced so many more mechanical failures and what not than Prost did, their times respectively were about .010 sec away from each other, Mansell with the faster lap although not by any strategic endeavour, it just worked out that way. Seeing as both times were practically identical, Prost’s approach is much more favourable. Prost is much more tidy and puts the power down more linearly, in race these styles would almost always award Prost with a longer-lasting vehicle.
Funny, that's exactly what Alain thinks! Shame he was hardly ever up for a race, seeing as he was far too busy looking after his car. I'm sure he's quite happy with his world championships though, he always seemed very self satisfied how 'correct' he had been on the track. It's just two different styles, or approach, and I know which one I prefer to watch.

I think was shown on the highlights before the race, wasn’t it? Goodyear 500 Grand Prix I think too... I was a kid trying to follow it to back then.
The 90’s really was the golden age of F1, I think. Mansell, Prost, Senna, Schumacher and so, so many more.
I think most of us who watched these races live got to see some magical things from red 5. I think it was all down to his moustache.
This was so much better than Melbourne.

Fortunately I had the possibility to enjoy that era…I was full in love with F1…a feeling nowadays I completely lost and almost forgot!
