  • In the early 1970s I attended courses on electronics at the BBC's Engineering Training Centre at Wood Norton near Evesham. I took my 8mm cine camera with me and 35 years later found the sound recording I made with some of the shots. So, here it is after 40 years.

Thanks so much for putting this up. Great to John Bentley and Doug Malone (I believe?)

As an (ex) Evesham resident, that's superb. Thanks for posting it.

Great to see Evesham town centre back then. Lots of traffic but, unlike today, it kept moving.

Great to see the radio links at Silverstone in 1973. I'm remember the Mark II MAL links which were in use in the 1980s, and the later Mark III ones, but have never used the ones shown here. I bet they still suffered from polypole ringing?

Do you remember my dad John Greenwood?

Hi Lesley, I certainly do!! He taught quite a few of my Telecommunications courses and I also worked with him when I was installing kit at Wood Norton. He had many interesting stories about his work in, I think it was, the Bristol Aircraft Corporation. Kind Regards Stephen

I remember him taking some gummed coloured stickers home and saying you would like them to play with.

We were somewhat embarrassed by John as children. He was such an eccentric with his overcoat and flat cap in the summer and his overcoat and Russian hat in the winter. He died in 1986 in his early 50s and I felt I never got to know the man, which I regret.
Kind regards Lesley Probert (was Greenwood)

We always thought his overcoat and flat cap were a little comical but we learned much of our critical technical knowledge from him. In fact, I greatly treasure the training at Wood Norton which was second to none in technical matters. I would not say the same of the BBC's management training, but John was not involved with that.
