In today's video, Chuck shows how to make a beautiful leather purse with a reptile inlay. This purse is fully lined and features trunk-style handles and gusset sides. Chuck uses our soft and supple deer-tanned cowhide leather for the main body and our crazy horse water buffalo for the liner.

This has to be the most underrated Chanel I know of, it is owned by a company, but they don't self- promote a lot, they are just the best leather crafting channel I know of. Keep up the good work, weaver!

Dang, I'd put the Crazy Horse on the outside, and use the deertan cowhide for a liner!
Nice simple project that exercises quite a few tasks.
It would be nice if the pattern was a free pdf download though.
Chuck makes everything so easy, and is when you get enough experience and confidence.
For people very new to leather crafting, this will tax your patients a good deal.
Get enough supplies to make 3 or 4 and each one gets easier and has a better outcome than the previous one.

Ok .. so .. being VERY new to leathercrafting and having ZERO experience with chrome tan .. I noticed you didn't slick any of the edges ... is that a veg tan only step? As always, very informative. I always learn something watching Chuck .. keep it up
I use Toko Pro and it works great on my oil tanned

Tokonole will work to slick some chrome tan edges but if not, like @Unmutual said, you can roll the edges. You can also use edge paint or leave the edge raw like Chuck did in the video for a more rustic look.

When you glue a lining on veg , do you burnish the veg tan edges before adding a suede liner or after glue up?

You're not gonna burnish the corners?
Chuck, getting ready to cut leather to make this purse but ran into a problem. The strap attachment holes are 1/4 inch longer than the holes in the bag. Is this due to the straps having to go around the bend or an error in the pattern? Thanks.
I couldn't find it if anyone else asked this question, But what is the groover set to? 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch. I don't think Chuck said. Thank you!

We're not sure on these exact ones, but, you should be able to get them at a hardware store or even the dollar store.
How would you make it into a holster purse? I'm attempting to figure it out.

What software do you use to create your digital patterns?
We use Illustrator which is a part of the Adobe suite!
Why can't you use a strap cutter on chrome?
It doesn’t have the stiffness to resist the cutter to keep it lined up like a veg.
OLD LEATHER SMITH here, yes you can,.all U have 2 do is make sure you hold tight the piece you R cutting, I personally use a clamp even.on my veg tan, no clamp, a clip nailed, or screwed, 2 your table will also work, more Questions feel free 2 ask, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
