And I finally understand the weight / thickness relation. I so often hear "it's a five-ounce leather", and think "What the blank does that even mean?"
I'm German, we don't use the weight. We say "It's 2mm thick".
So a big thank you, for teaching the thickness.
That means the leather I have left over is about 4 ounces... And I can make a small satchel out of it, if I line it with some lighter leather.
And I even have the tools needed for a basic lacing technique.
You really know how to motivate people to go do leather projects.

It's nice to show people your Technique and have all of the right tools witch I have thousands of dollars worth of tools but get to the basics and stop the BS and that's what Weaver does get to the point and show the product and watch it while it's being done that's what a lot of people need and this is great. I've been doing this for 40-plus years and it's nice to have somebody showing everyone how to do videos. He likes to pet his self on the back quite often but he does a remarkable job at the same time. Believe me it doesn't come without mistakes on occasion as well but when you're very experienced you learn to not make mistakes because that sometimes is costly and time-consuming.

I’ve been doing leather work for 5-6 years, and I really like this video. I’d word things differently though. Good tools aren’t cheap. But, they’re tremendous value. I’ve got some punches, pricking irons I think is the real name, that I’ve pounded like crazy. Still good. Still sharp. Not the cheapest but, I’ve got my money’s worth. I’ve spent a LOT of money on leather working tools. Even though I’m solidly an amateur still, I’ve made dozens of projects. The tools I regret were the cheap ones I had to replace. I like oil tanned leather, as I don’t like dealing with dyes. Personal preference there. I’ve burned through many of those green cutting/punching pads. They don’t last well for me. My kitchen table bears witness. This week, I added another hundred stitching cuts to the table top. It’s soft. At least it doesn’t damage my tools! 🤗 my wife views this differently! 🥺 I love the simple beauty of leather and stitches. Not into spots or carving or stamping very much. Just a little. Leatherwork is awesome for having options no matter your style. Anyone considering it as a hobby, I say jump in. Make some pouches, belts, bags. I just made a 12”x7” (finished dimensions) fold over zipper bag with a 1.5” gusset. Not perfect but the best stitching I’ve done to date. Leather work is learned in a day but takes a lifetime to master. Another thing I love. Thanks for the encouraging video!

Had been looking for good leathercraft tutorials for awhile and just ran across these. Man this guy is great happened to watch a mystery braid video of somebody else before and then watched his. The difference is vast between the two videos, I am now not just lightly thinking about starting to learn I am shopping around for the tools and anticipate getting started on making items for friends and family as soon as I can. Look forward to watching and learning as much as I can from you.
