don't bet on it - they negotiated that NTC for a reason - I would think that if the situation is appealing but even then he is going to want help otherwise he can just play out the final year and go on the open market - does someone honestly think that is not a preference? I have heard Mark Hunter is going to GM of Columbus - that stands the most chance of Marner being moved.
Don’t be on players with NTC agreeing to a move in light that they aren’t wanted.
Most of the time players with NTC have them so when life is good they cannot get the rug pulled out from under them. In this case life is not good and the player is being ridiculed and would have to put up with even more ridicule if he chose to just play the contract out, he’d be getting booed off the ice, and would most likely waive in advance of that, logically

Based on Tkachuk's comments, the other teams knows that as long as the core 4 is kept intact, they will not win. The core 4 is not allowing to sign a better bottom 6. It is time to think outside of the box and make changes.

If the core guys say no then there's not much the Leafs can do. Marner could really screw them over by not accepting a trade and then hitting free agency. Marner seems like the type to do that if the Leafs rub him the wrong way.

Marner wasn’t the problem it was the coach. This was not a one player issue and trading a top 10 player will simply make your team worse. Thankfully, I believe this correct analysis will be accepted by Leafs management. It’s crazy that the coach was not fired after so many failed playoffs. It’s absurd. If Marner can’t play after a coaching change then we can talk about trading him. Keefe never got the team to play well in the playoffs for more than a few games. Coach’s job is to get the moat out of every player. I don’t need to tell you how obviously that was never close to happening do I? He should have been fired after Montreal series.
Trade Matthews if he is agreeable. That will bring the most in return. They usually win when he is not playing. They lose a lot when Marner is not playing. The actual fact is that no players will be traded . Coaching change might happen.

The entire coaching staff needs to be fired. A new system needs to be implemented from coaches who know what to do and what it takes to win.

It was a set play that Marner didn't stop Pasta. Marner was absent all series. Sammy was on waivers, so what do you expect for him a cup. The series was a little too late to come, we had injuries and our captain did nothing also. The team plays better when there are injuries and Sheldon charges the structure of the team. 82 games of offense and you just can't change team culture when the playoffs start. So quit blaming Sammy and Reilly. Blame Shanny, Dubas and all the coaches

I think that The Toronto Maple Leafs should talk with The Pittsburgh Penguins about A Marner for Karlsson package. I think that Pittsburgh needs A Scorer & Toronto needs more Defense (Erik Karlsson isn't the poorest of all of the Defensive Defenseman out there & he's got The Scoring). Let me know what you think

this was the first roster that had a shot in the playoffs the others years were hopeful at best. So this was the first real season we failed the others were more of a miracle to even get to game 7's and all that nonsense. they shouldn't have been there in the first place. There was a chance of course but we weren't built with all we needed to go far in and win a cup.

Some of these star players just don't like playing for the team they're playing on. How many times have you seen these guys play like rock stars after being traded.
Coaches job is to get the most out of the players. Did we ever see the best version of the team in the post season? I don’t even need to answer that. Boston coach was going to be fired for two bad post seasons. Keefe has been given a free pass for years.
Alot of times that had to do with new structure on the new team.

Marner's days at Toronto in all likelihood are numbered. Should he stay, he probably will be asking for $12-13 million when he's up next year. That's way too much to resign him.
While its easy to blame coaches for the way the game went one would think that the players did not gel at the right time and step up food for thought

Marner isn’t going anywhere. Tavares will be off the books in a year. Put a cup winning coach in place and if Marner is bad then we can talk about trading him. Keefe was awful in the playoffs. The best coaches get their players to play their asses off.

I'm not saying moves don't need to be made, but, I don't think that they played bad. I really do not know about Mitch Marner. He is a good player, but, once again, he disappeared after the Regular Season. I do think that they have to figure out their Goaltender Situation.
It would only be in Mitch's best intrests to take a trade. It looks like he played himself off the first line.
No one is going to pay 13 M / year for a second line guy who gets only assists.

Every month for the past 72 months it’s the same thing “we need someone to play with Reilly” FORGET REILLY, nothing will save him from himself, he’s not a 1st line defender. Or 2nd line. You could soend 10 million on a defence partner for Reilly and it would never help the Golden Boy become a 1st line defender, stop spending 7 years trying to accommodate Reilly, when he is a problem.
Craig Berube would be a good fit for the Leafs or Travis Green who played with the Leafs in the past could also be a good fit for the Leafs. However Bruce Boudreau might also be a good fit for the Leafs 😢

Sheldon Keefe was already on the hot seat well before the season started. I have a feeling that come tomorrow morning, an announcement will be made saying that Sheldon Keefe has been fired as head coach. As for the core four, who knows. They could do what the Los Angeles Chargers did this past offseason, get rid of two and restructure the deals of the other two that were taking up a lot of cap space. Or, they could do what the Utah Jazz did last year and tear the whole thing down and start all over from scratch. We'll just have to wait and see.

Before any player changes I would like to see shanahan relieved of his duties…you can’t trust a guy to ok a deal if he built terrible teams the last 10 years. Start with the higher ups and get some hockey minds to fix these deep rooted problems in management first…then you can start fixing the team.
None of the core 4 are bad players or entirely to blame due to their play. They are just overpaid leaving no money to fill out the roster with quality players that will help the team win. It is management that is at fault for overpaying all 4 of them. You can't blame a player for trying to get the most money they can. You can blame management for giving it to them. If you look at the team record with one of the core 4 out, they do the best without Matthews so he might be the one trade. He is on a mid term contract and they would get the most value back for him and someone would be willing to give up the farm for his scoring. Try to resign Marner at a lower amount without the no trade clause and if he won't then he may walk and you get nothing, except a ton of cap space to use on a better supporting cast, worse things could happen than that. Resign Tavares at a much lower amount and it he waon't accept that then he is gone too and again you have cap space for a better supporting cast. It may take one more year to get this done, but that is not that bad.

In hindsight, and hindsight is always perfect, the North American first round picks by the Leafs stunk during the playoffs. The only first round picks that showed up was Nylander.

This will be Gio's last year. I didn't like reeves when he was signed. Reeves is an improved Simmonds. Leafs need Reaves to deal with players who take a jab at Mathews.

You are drastically overvaluing Marner going to the Islanders in your mock trade. I dont think the Isles give you Dobson for Marner 1 for 1, no chance the Leafs get Dobson, 2 first round picks and a 2nd round pick, thats lunacy. Dobson had 70 points this year and was good at both ends of the ice, hes worth a fortune and a franchise #1 D. No chance the Isles move him.

We have 4 x 10plus players. people say mathews is the best I don't agree with that but do we really need him if we have 2 or 3 others getting paid high dollars. Like tavares will get a reduced salary too when his contract is up if he stays. So even if we have 2 x 10 plus Nylander and Mitchy.
