    A friend of mine had a 2002 Sedona and it lasted her 18 years, through cold, Canadian winters. No major repairs needed after 480,000 km. It was replaced by a Kia Soul in 2020.

    I've got a 2009 Sedona with 310,000 miles. The only problem I've had was the cooling fan control signal. I bypassed the controller by going directly from its 12v input to the fans. Now they run full speed always. Otherwise, the vehicle has been bulletproof. No leaks, and the 3.8L engine still kicks. Maybe I'll trade it in one day for a 3.5L, if anything tragic should occur, but I have no plans for any other people and produce mover in my life.

    You pointed an advantage that minivans like this Kia have over the big Chevy Suburban. It's car based where as big SUVs like the Suburban are car based and they can't fold the seats into the floor for storage plus they are much more expensive. It's a shame that American automakers don't want to make affordable family vehicles like this anymore.

    • @damilolaakanni
      @damilolaakanni ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's because most Americans don't want these type of vehicles anymore, they think they're not "cool", and prefer crossovers.

      All minivans are just around 35k these days. What affordable family haulers do you mean?! 35k is not affordable.
      If you think it is, the American brands offer stuff like the Transverse and Explorer. Maybe not as practical. But more stylish these days to buyers.

    You didn't mention the 1,500 lb (3/4 ton) payload capacity. I've loaded 20 bags of corn or dried distillers grains (1,000 lb), before getting a Ford Super Duty. The rear suspension sags, but doesn't bottom out. And it takes a bit more highway to stop, but it's otherwise our same peppy little guy. You also didn't remove the second row seats. But with those removed and the third row folded, I moved my ex-wife into an apartment with everything a person needs. The front center console also folds down, allowing wife to go from passenger seat to second row, in order to care for our infant. These vans can do anything!

    I have a 2011 Sedona with 195k going strong, and I must say its been a fantastic vehicle.
    No serious mechanical issues but if your alternator goes out, get an OEM. Aftermarket alternators will not last very long.
    Other than that, its been a great van. No leaks whatsoever. Engine and transmission still incredibly strong and I foresee going towards 300k before she tires out.
    If you're considering an older vehicle to save some money, I wouldn't hesitate getting this van. I stumbled across this video looking for other sucess stories as I have never owned a Kia before this one, and I am pleased to see others enjoying its comfort and reliability.

    We had an 02 EX from New, then gave it to a family member with 160,000 on the clock. She got it past 300,000 miles without issue. We replaced the one we gave to her with a new 11 EX. 125,000 miles and still going strong and very reliable. The leather has barely started to show any signs of wear, and the power is really unbelievable. That v6 turns the van into a rocket. Always immediate, very responsive throttle.

  • @mikeypv6

    In the UK we got these with a 2.7 V6 with 185hp 250Nm and a 2.2 Turbodiesel 190hp 420Nm... the diesel had so much torque that you had to feather the throttle to stop it from doing a rollong burnout... a shock to us as a driver and people witnessing it too 😂

    Over here its known as the Carnival and those are usually throw-away vans... Most of the examples i saw here, are destroyed beyond repair... Also they are mostly diesels here... Either 2.9 Diesel or 2.7 Petrol...

    Our family bought an 08 EX model? (It was fancy with leather seats, auto opena and close sliding door, sunroof, DVD capability, etc.) at 100k miles years ago. We never really knew much about kias reliability back then, but that thing was a beast and got taken to about 250k with the only real issue being a short in the radio. We ended up taking it out and never replacing it, so a bluetooth speaker became the new sound system. We only replaced it when the engine had a coolant leak. We hadn't taken note of, and eventually, it caught up and took out the motor. Bought a 2015 optima because of that perceived kia reliability and you can imagine how that went for me. Lol

    Such an unremarkable minivan. It does minivan things. Now, the Carnival is one of the nicest minivans on the market.
    If you want another sporty minivan, try a late 00s 5th-gen Chrysler Town & Country with the 3.8L. It had the weirdest engine/transmission tuning. It'll hold first gear out to 4000RPM regardless if you're trying to go fast or slow. If you roll on the gas on the highway, it'll drop two gears and really start to pull. I don't know how the 4.0L or later Pentastar 3.6 were tuned because ours had the 3.8.

    I don't know if the Kia Sedona is as reliable as the Toyota Sienna. The Toyota Sienna is the most reliable minivan of the 4 made in the USA which are the Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna and Kia Sedona which has been replaced by the Kia Carnival

      There also used to be a Nissan Quest and the Mazda 5 minivan at the time this was on sale. A I think I like the Mazda 5 more because it was quirky, and it offered a manual transmission, the only thing available in it's segment of minivans in the early 2010s, and it was also as reliable as a Sienna since it's a Mazda.

    • @damilolaakanni
      @damilolaakanni ปีที่แล้ว

      @jonanthonylosito2004 the Mazda 5 was much smaller than its supposed competition, I'd consider it as a station wagon with three rows and sliding rear doors, like the Nissan Stanza wagon of the 80's, or a European style MPV like the Volkswagen Sharan or Toyota Avensis Verso.

    The band teacher as my high school had one of these. I wasnt in band. I only know cause I was in auto tech and he brought it to us a few times. I think he also had a Chevy Suberban as well. Ive actually noticed in a lot of kias they have an extremely sensitive throttle reaponce. I spun the wheels a few times by accident when test driving a Kia Soul after changing the dreaded steering wheel coupler.

    In the UK these were mostly sold with a 2.9L diesel engine wiith a manual gearbox.
    they went alright but were great at cruising on the motorway.
    Kia then sold the next version after this before stopping selling the Sedona in Europe.
    shame really as the current version sold in the US and Australia looks really nice

    Awesome video! Is there any way you would be able to review the 2006 Sedona LX? I'm going to be getting one from my friend very soon. I know the 2011 looks nearly identical to the 2006, except for the tiger nose grill (I'm not a tiger nose grill fan. I like the 2006-2010 grill better.) and it doesn't have quite as many features as the 2011, but I'd really like to see you review the 2006.
